So, if we go with the thought the perp wanted it to look like a drowning,

WHY? ...... to have extra time...??? For What...?

If it was someone who was from outside of Evansdale, they would have just hauled a**, out of town

and been another state away in the time it took to stage the bikes.

S0..............could that mean it was someone local....?

Also, staging added extra risk of being seen, and leaving finger prints or Other DNA!

IMO, the staging was purposeful and necessary to the perp....for the distraction factor. It gave the perp more time. :moo:

I was thinking.....

I wonder is The girls were at the lake right after 11:30 when they left and then about 12:00 they came back to around the house and they saw that the Grandmother had seen them outside riding around and the girls took that as a sort-of "check-in"

Than thought we have some time.

They went back to the lake an were abducted within seconds of getting there.

  • #983
Thats why I never went with the theory of the bikes being staged. This abduction happened so fast, its like a grab and go.

IF the girls knew or trusted the perp and he/ she was urging them to hurry, then dropping the bikes right where they were could be accomplished without any fuss. Only the girls DNA would be left on the bikes.

I suppose one might call this "passive" staging? Idk

Thank you.....Ok, Lets go with that.

Who Would Need LE Distracted enough to take the risk of being seen with the bikes and leaving DNA and prints on them...?

Local with-in 200 Yards of the Lake or A Citizen of Evansdale or some one who lives in another state...?

I don't remember where I saw it, so I don't have the link.

At one point, I believe I remember Chief Deputy Rick Abben saying that the woods had been thoroughly searched.

At the time, I made a joke on WS about investing in Tecnu, which is stuff that neutralises and washes off poison ivy if you do it before the rash starts. I tried to do a search on my WS pseudonym and Tecnu but didn't get any matches. But I know I made that joke!!!

Yes, you did :) :

Did the girls take an unexpected route, or were they picked up and driven there, did they ask the wrong person for directions?

Lyric Cook's grandmother, Wylma Cook, said she doesn't believe the girls intended to go swimming.

"I don't think they would have even known the way to Meyers Lake," she told HLN's Nancy Grace on Tuesday

So, If TB is saying........... FBI is saying the girls were POSITIVELY in the woods............. if that is where they were abducted .................and there is poison ivy there.................

Should LE be looking for someone with a bad case of Poison Ivy..........:waitasec:

Maybe the girls did get nabbed by poison ivy and made a dash to the water, first dropping bikes, then forgetting purse, someone comes along and says" I've got just the thing for it, come over here"..

A couple of things. The Carpenters said they saw E ride by their house almost every evening. They live very near the lake where the bikes were found.

TB has later said that E had been to the lake with the neighbor's kids.

MOO

ETA: Perhaps Heather was more aware of what E was doing than WC or TB or MCM.

Now me personally, if I was going to stage a girls drowning,

for time and distraction and I already had the bikes in my Vehicle

I would have drove down river road under 380 to the river and put them there, Much more seclude and combing and searching that huge river would have given me a whole lot more time...

And to drive that little ways would have only take about 2 minutes more...

“The search has been expanded and now takes up probably about a five-mile-square area,” Abben says. “People on the ground along with dogs and then we also have law enforcement doing house-to-house (searches), making contact with people.”

Thank you!! Lots of good info in this article from the very early days. What I'm thinking is maybe this refers to the regular local LE dogs, and the FBI ones were brought in later but focused more on the lake? Just a guess.

I like the brainstorming! But I have to think the last thing I'd want on top of a nasty case of poison ivy is a bunch of leeches. IMO.

Good point. But, if you were headed that direction (which I think is a possibility) with the girls..better to leave them at the lake when you nabbed them and just keep on goin'., having had the girls park the bikes themselves so no prints, etc. Of course, that is me thinking they were nabbed at the lake, then into the vehicle. If they were nabbed on the road earlier, and you were heading to the river area, the area where the bikes were found is basically on the way with a slight momentary detour, so LE would look in that area and not along the river heading south. MOO

Breault confirmed the dogs led "to the water".

We know the girls ARE NOT in the water.

Does this add credibility to the staging theory? A perp dragged items belonging to the girls from the bikes to the waters edge?

:cow:

I thought someone once said early on here that the river south was searched to a degree. They were talking about the low river level due to the drought I think. Were dogs used? Does anyone know or remember anything about that? I think a local said it, but I'm not sure. I may be "misremembering". MOO

I know that at least one water dog was deployed the first weekend but I do not know where.

If the girls' bodies had gone into the river, it is highly unlikely they would have gone undetected for this long. It's possible but unlikely.

That article is from July 15, and it sounds like volunteers and their dogs were searching on the weekend after the girls went missing. I don't think that the FBI bloodhounds were involved in the case on July 15. On July 18, FBI said that their dogs would not be used again, after the one search at the lake, unless there were new developments.

I made that suggestion way back.

By now, it's too late, unless the perp got a skin infection subsequent to the poison ivy. Even then, I think it would have to be someone with a really bad immune system for a skin infection to last for this long.

IMHO...I think the very fact the bikes and the purse were there indicates that the perp(s) left them there on purpose either as a distraction or because they were in a car not a van type of vehicle...or couldn't walk through the woods with bikes to a waiting vehicle. MOO
