thanks Cranky!

okay.. so the bikes were found across the lake from the docks but the dogs traced them to the dock (per the aunt which was posted upstream)

the dock shown is the fishing dock, I believe and is fixed. the bikes would be on the other side of the lake. but again, the lake is not huge so it isn't real far. but if the girls were going to swim from the dock, why leave your bikes on the other side. the nature trail is wooded in some areas. Iowa has been working on establishing connecting nature/bike trails across the state and most run through parks, wooded areas, along lakes and cornfiels.

They could have been "exploring" and ended up on the other side of the lake, too. Bushwack or be on a "lion hunt" to the other side?

Probably on their own two feet. A perp would only need to have one girl, say by the arm, to control both girls. An onlooker would assume the trio were two children, possibly in trouble, with a parent.

Why didn't anyone see them? There may not have been any witnesses or a witness may have accepted the scene as normal and filtered it out of their memory.

Both girls had "stranger danger" training but research (and countless TV shows) indicate that such training is often ineffective. Even adults are known to freeze up when accosted, let alone children.

There is also no way to know in advance what a given victim will do. I've seen so many families say "my loved one would have fought and screamed and made a huge fuss" but it turns out not to be so.

Thanks, Grainne! Great post.

I wanted to also say something about the weight posted for Lyric on the missing poster.

My DD is the same age, and is stocky build, about the same appearance as that latest pic of Lyric.

But my DD is 5'2" and weighs 125. Sooooooo.........

I just don't think that a weight of 145 is possible for a girl that short if she still looks like she did in that pic.

I believe it is a misprint.

either the aunt is a disinfo factory or she's spilling beans she shouldn't be spilling.......

The original dogs that were brought in from Quantico, VA did not pick up any scent from what I read. There were later bloodhounds from Omaha brought in that picked up a scent of the girls. This has been in news articles and I believe was also stated by authorities in a news conference earlier or last night.

I think the sheriff just said in a news conference that details of what the dogs picked up are not the public's business or something like that.

The aunt said the timeline for grandma seeing the girls was 11:30 and LE just said it was still 12:15

Welcome to WS!!!

Do you have any links to the articles about the dogs? Tia!

Did I read somewhere that the dogs smelled the parents to try and get a scent of the girls to use to try and track the girls?

Hope that makes sense.

I remember reading in a posted article (sorry don't have the link offhand) that Lyric DOES have a cell phone but did not have it with her.

Yep...remember that too

With all due respect, why is the aunt doing much of the talking, as the mom is quite capable. The aunt seemed to prompt the mom at times and the mom didn't need it. Just IMO

<modsnip>

26 Acres= ~105,000 square metres according to Google if that helps visualise the size of the lake.

I have a question. I have never followed a case like this without some suspect or what not.

So...obviously, there are 2 potential themes that could have occurred from what I am reading on the forums (with variations of course). The first, the girl’s bodies are in the lake (by accident or on purpose). Or, they have been abducted. I am not bashing LE or anything...but..I am curious as to why just the lake is being focused on right now. Obviously, we do NOT have privy to all the information LE does. But, considering a child can disappear in a mile a minute in a car...is there any reason to not issue Amber Alerts (except no vehicle information) or to start searching nationwide? Just curious...

Thanks!

The sheriff sounded like they do not really have any other ideas or clues as to what happened so they are draining the lake to rule it out 100%.

reading the amber alert page there has to be evidence they were abducted

They are searching other bodies of water and everything else in the area. And yesterday, authorities said no one had refused the in-home search.

Yes, the aunt really took over and did most of the talking.....Looking forward to JVM tonight and am hoping between the two mothers and the grandmothers we get some concrete info. I know I'm dreaming......

I think LE stated in the last presser that they are expanding the search... I am surprised that there have been no "sightings" of the girls since they vanished...there usually are in missing persons cases...and,sadly, they are almost always not the missing person (s)....

Thanks. No evidence the bikes were staged or anything? I have read all the posts. It is just frustrating...

Abben: we don't have any new leads. ? - sound like your stalled; abben: we are

See, this is how things are in Iowa. When LE is stalled, they just say so. Straightforward. Like Iowans in general.

Used to drive me crazy, the guessing games that go on in other areas about what LE may or may not know.

Regional differences are fascinating.
