I'd forgotten that it was just an audio interview, so I spent five minutes fiddling with my computer trying to get the picture to come on. I finally had to call Mr Grainne and he gave me a funny look: "honey, it's just audio, no video."

If you see a memory dashing merrily through the snow, it is probably mine. Please remind it that I really miss it.

:floorlaugh:

Thanks for the laugh!

http://www.kwwl.com/story/20402862/additional-20500-offered-in-missing-cousins-case

EVANSDALE, Iowa (AP) - A new reward fund has been established to help police arrest the killer of 2 eastern Iowa cousins whose bodies were found early this month.

A fund drive has raised $20,500

(the above described amount is in addition to the funds already raised for the reward)

And this one is just for an ARREST, not a conviction (which is typical).:great:

I really hope someone starts talking. I do have a question though...that someone who DOES know something, would they potentially be facing charges for not coming forward sooner? Conspiracy type charge...or interfering with official acts? I'm assuming those charges would be plead out, but just curious.

Sadly though, I fear that no amount of money is going to bring someone forward, because 1. no one saw anything valuable, or 2. those who would talk already have.:moo:

Heather is having her surgery today. Per the KWWL noon news, Drew called & said that her surgery was going well & should be done soon. The reporter said he contaced them about an hour before the news started, so around 11:00.

Bless you guys, I could not find that danged link anywhere. I knew we had discussed it, and I knew it had been linked in the previous thread but could not for the life of me put my fingers on it.

I think she did as well.

Thank you to everyone who persisted and found the "bones" link.

It is so hard when it is just audio with no transcript.

Much appreciated and a reminder to us all to post links.

Thanks again! The "bones" comment tells me that the girls laid out there since July 13 and were mostly skeletonised.

This question reminds me of that serial killer of men who was turned in by his own accomplice.

Even though the accomplice was more of a victim than a true partner in crime, the accomplice got 20 years too.

We all know about plea bargains and the other shenanigans the lawyers and prosecutors get up to, so the answer here is "probably not" unless that person was directly responsible for the assault/murder in which case they will probably not escape punishment...but who knows. It appears to be a case by case thing.

I personallly suspect that someone is talking, and has been since the reward increased.

Just because LE haven't told us about it, doesn't mean it isn't happening.

Again I point to the 110 house blitz in October and Sherrif Thompson's most recent words (thanks Marilyn)

He said the development gives authorities the ability to “draw conclusions off what we already know, and some of the people we already talked to .”

It is clear that LE have already got a solid line of investigation which has now been confirmed, and people are talking.

In fact, I'd say there's probably a line forming, to collect the reward.

There will be an arrest/s, and soon, in my humble opinion.

Mind you, I've said that since July.

Have they reported the cause of death yet? I have looked around and haven't found anything online. just curious if anyone has came across anything?

No info has been released by either medical examiner or law enforcement regarding COD.

Depends on what they know but such charges are very, very rare. What prosecutor in their right mind would want to do anything to discourage anyone from talking? To do so would be to dry up the top method for solving cases. Even in cases where someone (not the perp) lied to LE initially, if they decide to come forward with the truth I have never seen someone charged.

I don't think money alone will bring anyone forward but keeping the girls in the news may well be helpful. That, to me, is the main value of rewards, they are media catnip. What someone knows can change over time. For instance, someone said they were in Readlyn on 13 July but when asked casually where they were in they change their story to say they were in Cedar Rapids.

We may never get COD.

I'm reminded of Morgan Harrington. Nothing was ever released there either, except her parents spoke of foreign DNA and her "lovely bones".

Ha! I think the opposite - that they've got a line up of local methheads trying to tell them their methhead "theories".

I've been working in Fraud Investigations for a damn long time and trust me, a substantial amount of money is enough to make 99.99999% of people blab, whether they know something relevant or not.

It's like a big piece of cheese tempting all the rats. Of course they are going to have a nibble.

It's probably very time consuming for LE because they have to also now figure out whose information is a dead end, and whose has potential...and some of those babblings will have a kernal of something important.

They have been able to do this, according to Sherrif Thomspon. He specifically mentions "some people we've already talked to".

That's a veiled threat, right there. He's directly telling the perp they are on his trail. Yet more confirmation this was the act of a local.

Isn't the money being handled through crimestoppers though and crimestoppers is ostensibly anonymous. If its anonymous, how then would the tipster be charged with anything?

SS, they also did this in the BTK case... (swabbed multiple people) as well as the Jessica Ridgeway case. I wonder if they have done it in this case?

fwiw the swabbing strategy came about most likely because there was something to compare it to.. It would be great news if there were touch dna on the bikes or purse that matched to the remains location.

I hope they have **something**

I watched a documentary about the 5,500 old Mountain man they found he was murdered on the mountain and they actually retrieved DNA from his bones in the snow and he was there for a very long time . It was on recently P B S maybe so folks shouldn't second guess what they can and cannot find .He was not in a glacier he was laying over a rock exposed to the elements

Extended interview (voice only) with Heather by KWWL starting at about 15:25/16:47 minutes. It sounds like Heather says,
"Really it is just her bones that are going to be put in that casket."

ETA: As a mother, I cannot imagine having to say that about one's child. Heartbreaking.

I think what Heather said may be a reflection of her faith, rather than a literal description of Elizabeth's body.

wow... and re-wow !!!

and, TY.

Even though your post is talking abt the DNA of the victim, it renews my hope that in our little girls' case the perp's DNA has been found.

I continue to "sit on the edge of my chair" awaiting news of final autopsy results...

One of those things you need to hear in context before you can know what she means.

Damn.

I'd love the transcripts for these interviews Drew and Heather are giving.

"Normally, it was his job to keep the famous Neolithic mummy frozen under the precise conditions that had preserved it for 5,300 years, following an attack that had left the Iceman dead, high on a nearby mountain."

The "mummy's mitochondrial DNA" was analyzed.

To maintain the integrity of the program, they can't be.

However, if someone tries to claim the reward at some point some form of money has to meet a human hand.

If you are referring to Otzi, he had been frozen from very shortly after his own death. He spent most of the intervening 5,300 years inside a glacier.

The ME was obviously able to get DNA from the remains that belonged to the girls but if the remains were only bones, it's unlikely (although not completely impossible) that if they were sexually assaulted there would be DNA present. The fact that LE hasn't held any cattle calls for swabs suggests to me that they do not have a sample they want to match.
