Only eight people showing up for a town hall meeting tells me the people of Evansdale don't really give a crap about what is happening in their community. It doesn't tell me they are satisfied with LE's investigation at all. Well, maybe they are "satisfied" but it doesn't tell me that LE is doing a good job/is getting closer to solving the case. I think it actually says that most of them don't feel there is a killer on the loose.

To continue on with this thought. If the people of the town doesn't care to show up to a meeting concerning two precious young girls, what does that say? They don't feel threatened by the murders of the girls would be one scenario. Is it because they believe they think they know who did it and they are not going to get hurt/killed.

I agree with you Eileen, they don't give a crap because even if they knew he won't harm again, they should support the local LE in their effort to find him.

Not trying to argue...but please keep in mind...the meeting that Tony Thompson was holding was NOT to "update" people in Evansdale about the murder investigation. It was simply what I would call a Town Hall meeting, to discuss the Black Hawk County police dept. Nothing about this meeting was to be in reference to the girls, the investigation, etc.

I'm sure Tony knew there was a possibility of people asking questions about the investigation, and I think he did what he could to answer their questions without hindering the investigation and let the people in the community know they are still working it and haven't let it go cold...

But again...this meeting was NOT held as a community meeting in an effort to update the citizens of anything pertinent in regards to the investigation.

True, but if anyone lacked confidence in police, or questioned whether they were doing the jobs they were hired to do, attending the meeting would certainly have been a good place to start. Since eight people attended the Black Hawk County meeting, and there are about 100,000 people living in the general area, I get the impression that people are not that concerned about any police related business.

Very true Otto...this would have been their opportunity (since the meeting was held IN Evansdale) for them to voice any concerns about the efficiency of the BHC police in general.

Maybe something's up here.

Chelsea Beahr, a former acomplist was arrested on Sat. 2/9/2013

Same charges two days apart!

I thought I saw that Dan's Bond was $350,000 but I can't a link now.

Anybody have that link?

Saturday: 2/9/2013 BEAHR,CHELSEA COLLEEN ARRESTED FOR
PROBATION VIOLATION, POSS OF METHAMPHETAMINE, DRUG PARAPHERNALIA, POSS CONTR SUB-MARIJUANA-3 $101,075.00

Monday: 2/11/2013 Dan Morrissey, 36, of Waterloo, and the father of the late Lyric Cook, was arrested Monday and is currently being held in the Black Hawk County Jail after his bond was revoked because of multiple parole violations.

Those violations include testing positive for methamphetamine and marijuana on July 23 and Sept. 19, and testing positive for meth, marijuana and amphetamines on Feb. 4.

http://www.kwwl.com/story/21136773/...ositive-for-drugs-multiple-times-back-in-jail

Also the who's in jail site has been frozen since Monday 2/11/2013 and doesn't show anything about Dan's arrest. Anybody knows whats up with this?

http://www.bhcso.org/WhosInJail.aspx

Dan tested positive for meth on JULY 23?!?! That was 10 days after the girls went missing. Wasn't that the weekend everything went bonkers? (They did a ton of media interviews because the girls had just been declared abducted. Then Dan and Misty holed up in a hotel and LE questioned them. They refused to cooperate further and got a lawyer. Then they took it back and said they'd cooperate again.)

I still want to know why Dan turned down a plea deal that would reduce his sentence by SEVENTY FIVE YEARS because he "wasn't ready to go to jail yet."

Then 11 days later he is using meth?!

Well, I think they have def been watching Dan hoping he would lead them somewhere. So now what??

I still think LE has a suspect and they are watching and waiting for more evidence to stand up in court. I know everybody has their opinions, but the constant baggering (is that a word) of Dan, and drugs is in my opinion going the wrong direction.

When LE wouldn't comment on the question about a killer on the loose, I think is because if they answered that question with a yes, it would lead to more questions that would tip off that they are indeed watching someone. That would in turn scare the suspect and he might leave the country, or just know know that he is being watched. So I'm going with the old saying that no news is good news.

Lead where?

Answers, clues, who knows. They just took their time in deciding to arrest him. IMO anyway. Nothing to back that up.

Happy valentines day all you sleuther"s

Pat 22 sorry to ask this off topic but has your sister been found we are wondering in your sisters thread I hope she has and that Madeline can rest in peace in your family plot.

Back to the girls I am praying for news and a break in their case. I wonder if there was enough evidence to determine cause of death.

I agree that I wouldn't let my child out of my sight if I had one the world is a dangerous place. I bet the girls parents and grand parents never thought this would happen to them and will live with regret and what ifs for the rest of their lives. The mental pain must be unbearable and to not know who is responsible etc must be a living nightmare.

Meth can stay in your system for over a week. Depending on the amount used it could be out in as little as 72 hours or up to even 10 days, so who knows how often he'd used. I don't think it's a huge surprise to anyone that during that time that he'd revert back to using. It's a coping mechanism for an addict.

What's MORE surprising (to me anyway), is that they knew he was using and he broke probation. If he's such a bad person and a danger to himself and the community, etc...why didn't they arrest him immediately when the UA came back dirty?
From the looks of the report it looks like police/probation officer weren't too concerned about the fact he'd allegedly tested positive...on more than one occasion. They waited until NOW to decide he'd broken too many appts. with his counselor and probation officer and dropped too many dirty UA's?
They could have arrested him immediately following the discovery of the girls bodies (if they were cutting him a break because the girls were missing) and didn't.

He himself went to a mental facility for help the day after the girls bodies were found (which could ALSO be interpreted as a danger to himself) and no arrest then either.

I think there is something else going here...no idea what it is...but the timing is just off for me. They had plenty of opportunity to arrest him prior to now and didn't...why?

My opinion is that they were hoping he would lead them to the bodies. Why else would they leave him on the streets when they KNEW he broke parole?

And then after the bodies were found, they had to wait for evidence to come back from the lab. Once they knew the COD, and that there was no evidence of a sexual assault (again, this is my opinion, but I'd bet my house those girls were killed execution style and not sexually assaulted), they decided to hold Dan to try to get him to talk.

Sorry to hear about Dan.

He is an addict and it is difficult for recovering addicts to stay sober in the face of stress - and having your child go missing/end up murdered is the most extreme stressor I can think of.

Lyric's parents have long been in my thoughts as far as their addictions & the stress from their child's disappearance/murder. I have an addiction to food and I overeat when I'm stressed. I know if I've had an awful day, all I want to do is eat an entire package of oreos & have to fight not to do so. And that's just your run-of-the-mill "something went wrong at work, got a flat tire, etc" type of bad day. It's sad (especially for Lyric's brother), but I feel great sympathy & empathy for Dan. I know how hard it is for me not to reach for the comfort of carbs after a bad day and I've never had a day as bad as any of the days Dan has had since July 13, 2012. Dan was surely looking to find comfort in his old friend, his addiction. He likely knew it would mean his parole would be revoked but was extremely desperate for some kind of comfort & escape. He's someone with an addiction to something as strong as meth & is/was facing such an extreme stressor. Think about how upset we here on WS were & are that we felt helpless to bring Lizzie & Lyric home and now we feel helpless as to find the person(s) responsible. Imagine being the girls' family members and feeling so helpless. Throw an addiction into the mix and you've got a real struggle.

I hope he is able to realize that he has to go on & live the best life he can for Lyric (and her family members) because she cannot live her life. I hope he realizes that he owes it to his deceased daughter to live a true, loving, long, vibrant life (and that is not possible with meth in the mix).
Love & light to Lizzie's family.

Ktgirl, please forgive me for choosing your post as the first I respond to after playing catch-up w/this page and the next.

It may not appear this way at first blush, but please believe me when I say that I'm not "picking on you or your thoughtful post," but rather asking the board for their answers to these questions of mine:

BBM - ITA

My QUESTION to the board RE: BBM: Please correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't DM's addiction pre-date the abduction/death of a daughter?

Underlined BM - I'm totally aware that over-eating tends to be (at least, in the states) an addiction shared by many good people.

My QUESTION to the board RE: Underlined BM: Relatively speaking, how potentially damaging is an addiction to food compared to an addiction to Meth to your family, your neighbors, and your state?

Italics BM - IMHO, he owed that to his daughter when she was alive, just as he now owes that to his son, etc.

I appreciate and respect your response and I am sure that if Lyric and Elizabeth's families thought there was any danger, they wouldn't have let them ride alone. I agree with you about the familiar neighborhoods and feeling safe in those areas. This should never have happened to them and it certainly wasn't the fault of anyone in their family for letting them ride bikes alone. They should have been safe doing that...just as we were. The only person at fault is whoever did this to them.

Ty, Joe... and AMEN to everything you said !!

BBM - This is MOO - I believe that LE was "between a rock and a hard spot" as far as DM's seemingly ongoing addiction problems and probation for same were concerned... a mixture perhaps of empathy and a desire not to harm the drug case...

This is MOO, of course, but I believe the reason DM couldn't be found aft bodies were discovered was because he was in no condition to take a drug test.

If it's true that he entered himself into any kind of drug treatment facility, my belief is that LE gave him a choice between that and jail.

As to why they've finally arrested him, IMHO, goes to needing to make sure he's available for his trial date and that he's sober for said trial date.

Obviously a meth addiction would be more harmful to a family than a food addiction. JMO.

But Ktgirl makes a good point, IMO, regarding how a person with an addiction can automatically fall back on that addiction to deal with stress in life. It doesn't excuse Dan's behavior in any way, but it does explain it somewhat.

I agree that Dan owed it to Lyric, and owes it to Dillin, to be a good father. Unfortunately, I believe his addiction is too strong for him to focus on his duties as a father.
