There is nothing.

The bodies were found on December 5, 2012 and there has been no information about new DNA evidence.

I hope that it doesn't have to happen again for the perp to be caught.

I don't think it will happen again in Evansdale so soon, but . . .

I think my story kinda shows how child abduction attempts have been going on for along time. When my parents moved us to Iowa, they were thinking that it would be a much safer place to raise kids. But then in 1981 or 1982, Johnny Gosch, then soon after another paper boy goes missing. Large city to small town, you just never know.

I think that every 8-10 year old has a scary story, real or imagined, morphed or true.

I'm of the opinion that Elizabeth wanted to show Lyric the lake (maybe Lyric was talking about going to the lake with her older cousin in Waterloo a week earlier); Lyric being older, so Elizabeth followed the route that she had taken in the past (with neigborhood friends or to visit friends in the neighborhood). I do believe that the lawn watering man, Mr Carpenter (per the news), saw Elizabeth, whom he recognized, that July 13 day, just after noon. That would have been between 12:00-3:00 according to the lawn watering man (Mr Carpenter in media). Police have since narrowed down the children's timeline (September 2012) to 12:30-1:00. At that time the children were in the area of Mr Carpenter's home on Lake Avenue (per Mr Carpenter), near Arbutus (which connects to Maiden Lane), just off Gilbert - which connects Meyers Lake Parking Lot and the Evansdale Nature Trail between Gilbert and Lafayette.

I think that it will happen again when the days get hot and long, like they were the day before and after the abduction.

hmmmmmmmm.... Yes, my same line of thought. Where did the perp spot them? The Meyers Lake Parking lot? "Dark Minds" quoted 76% of children abducted are dead within 3 hours of being abducted.

Why do you think the heat had anything to do with it?

This is the bigger picture:

This map is from September, when new information was released about the chidlren's timeline

Looking at McCoy as an exit route after abducting the children ... most likely, given where they were found ... at the time I made the map I wasn't sure of which direction the perp was travelling, so the road should be corrected to go straight North from McCoy.

Is it really necessary to criticize everyone's comment???

So, maybe our perp is an avid hunter during the winter/hunting season. Summer comes around. The days are long and sultry and he turns to human prey. I think Waterloo should be wary. In fact, the entire Cedar Valley Nature Trail, Gilbertville, Brandon, Urbana, Hiawatha.

This shows the bridge washout location that resulted in the Seven Bridges Country Park becoming unused, unpopular, deserted ... nothing more than hunting grounds.

i didn't intend it as a criticism.

I'm of the opinion that everyone remembers a scary story from childhood - a situation where they were too close to the edge in taking risks while too young.

Human prey ... that's what I'm thinking. Long, hot days make it seem easier.

I agree that the entire area of Bremer County and beyond should be wary until this is solved ... there was a link in the Jessica Ridgeway thread about whether predators tend to hunt closer, or further away, to/from home over time, . Maybe someone recalls the link ... I think stats. showed that predators hunt further away from home as they build confidence.

He could be someone that went hunting in the 7 Bridges Park area as a child, partied on Maiden Lane in high school, assaulted boys in the early 80s, tried to stop, went to 7 Bridges Park as a young adult possibly with family or friends for activities, may even have stopped being a predator of random children for even a couple of decades (see BTK) ... could be in his early 50s, still hunts in 7 Bridges Park, still lives in Evansdale.

I feel like the girls traveled East on Gilbert far enough to see the skate park and then turned South to go to Meyers Lake. South Evans to be honest. Possibly Lake.

That was an excellent link from the Jessica Ridgeway thread. . . alas, my computer crashed and I haven't searched for it again. I think he's attracted to boys too. I agree about the entire area of Bremer County being watchful too and beyond. The park that Misty was taking Lyric to and teaching her to swim, worries me.

He could be a drifter sort. He likes water, water attracts easy prey.

Escape route I agree with in red, straight north, East on Lafayette and then north before Gilbertville road.

Based on the new timeline information that police released in September (posted upthread) and the statement from the lawn watering man, I think that the girls did cycle to the lake area. Mr Carpenter, on Lake Avenue, said that Elizabeth and friends regularly cycled to the end of his road (bordering Arbutus) turned around and came back ... went home. He said that he recognized Elizabeth as a friendly, talkative girl cycling past his house (while he was watering the lawn) on July 13 shortly after noon. It sounds like Elizabeth and Lyric may have ridden to the South end of Lake Avenue - which is along Arbutus right near Maiden Lane, and vanished around 1:00-1:15 PM.

The next sighting of their bikes, with the girls missing, seems to be at 2:00 PM where the bikes are at the gate and children were no where to be seen.

It really isolated/separated the two areas with the bridge washing out. It was a long bridge ?

I have no idea what the bridge looked like, and I have searched collapsed bridges throughout Iowa. I can't find any information about the bridge and the collapse ... and which Iowa flood caused the collapse. All I know is that it probably happened between 1993 and 1996. I think that the road may have gone a little to the North at the river to span the narrower part of the river, as there are roads in the area to suggest this.

Water is an interesting theme ... Meyers Lake, Cedar River.
