Have you looked at the pictures? It might be helpful to read the articles and look at the pictures to better understand the size and purpose of it. It appears wide enough to transport equipment across, but since it is not going to be used for regular vehicle travel, it will not require the upkeep and maintenance that a city street would. HTH

Temporary to get the trees out and the material in for the gazebo.

Well, no, not necesarily. When my kid wandered off, I looked around for him, and the n I looked in the places he might be hiding, and then I stopped to listen for him giggling, and only after about ten minutes did I start to worry he might have wandered off. By then spouse was home and we walked through the neighborhood calling his name. By then we were starting to worry that he had wandered a little too far and couldn't find his way home, but we hadn't reached panic yet.

Obviously there are various factors into why you weren't concerned when your child was missing for 10 minutes and why I was in panic mode after 2. Age, development, area, and the child's normal habits play a part.

My son is 3, ASD, almost completely non-verbal, he sometimes wanders, he loves the neighbors dog, and we have mountain lion and bear. My kids have to stay within eyesight or earshot when we are outside.

And what makes you think the murderer KNEW the bodies would be found before the spring floods? Maybe he thought where he put them they wouldn't be found until spring...or even years. They weren't tossed on the side of the road, which would indicate a quick dump and run...yet easily found by passerby's. I have no idea what the killer was thinking. You appear quite confident of knowing what the killer was thinking...any particular reason why?

I never said the killer KNEW the bodies would be found before the spring. But since they WERE found last winter talking about the level of the water this year has no bearing. Last year the level was down or non existent.

IF I KNEW who DID this trust and believe I would turn them in, in a heart beat!!!

My son was 3.5, I think. And I was concerned; I just didn't go into panic mode. Yes, I would have been a lot more concerned if he had the issues your son faces.

But my main point was just that different people react differently to stress and pressure situations. You reacted appropriately for your situation and personality. I reacted appropriately to mine. And I have no doubt Heather and the rest of the family reacted appropriately for what they understood the situation to be at the time.

Thanks so much for this link. It explains a lot to me.
I have yet to see on any link that there is "official" approval or permits from the town, I COULD BE WRONG. I just don't know. :dunno:

http://www.kwwl.com/story/21317006/...lake-as-part-of-memorial-for-murdered-cousins
"Saturday, the city's park board unanimously approved the first phase of the memorial which honors murdered cousins Lyric Cook and Elizabeth Collins."

Also from the article:
"maintenance of the memorial on the island will require extra mowing, but it will not require taxes to increase for people who live in Evansdale."

"President of the Evansdale Chamber of Commerce Dona Frickson said although the cousins murder prompted the park plans to happen, she hopes it serves as a memorial for all people who have lost a loved one."
and
"Tom Nichols agreed. Nichols is a member of the park board in Evansdale. He's also the father of 22-year old Lindsay Nichols who was shot and killed in March 2012."

Eta: I hope this didn't come across snarky, it wasnt meant that way but reading it back it does sound that way. Sometimes reading the articles can help with a lot of the questions that tend to get posted repeatedly.

Not to worry, it didn't come off as snarky. I do read the articles, but sometimes they give incomplete info so I try to get a clear perspective on questions I have.

After reading this letter that Heather wrote to the abductor I noticed a few things that make me wonder if either this person is a friend of the family, acquaintance, etc. It's just eery as to where the bodies were found after she released the letter to the abductor.

Heather Collins said she drew on thoughts she had posted earlier on Facebook in composing the letter. She hopes the letter could prompt the person who abducted the girls to release them, maybe in an area where he or she wouldn’t be seen.

“They can still drop them off at a park or wherever and still not be seen, because our desire is not to know them. Our desire is to get the girls back, and that is all we want… The kids can be dropped off at a park, and they can get to a house,” Heather Collins told the Courier.

Why is a park mentioned, not only once, but twice? Also noting they could drop them off and not be seen. Sadly, it sounds to be like this killer heeded her request and did exactly what she asked. :banghead:

In retrospect, that note was chilling - it sounded like a parent making plans for a kid's pickup after a sleepover. Interesting if it did lead to the discovery of the girls , maybe the perp/s did what they were instructed to do ...

IIRC It was right after that Hunters were put on notice to be on the look out.

http://westdesmoines.patch.com/articles/iowa-hunters-asked-to-watch-for-missing-evansdale-cousins

This article asks hunters to be on the look out and it's dated 10/23.

The letter from Heather came out in November, coincidence?

"They can STILL be dropped off at a park". Was the notice to hunters a suggestion of what they COULD do, and when that didn't work they sent the plead out that they could STILL be dropped off at a park?

Grasping at straws, I know...:blushing:

Another thing that is just bumbling around in my head this morning...

Drew states that he was using some of the money fundraised to compile a list of sex offenders who have not re-registered with the state. To make sure that everyone is aware, to know where they are etc.

1. Wouldn't the state already have this list? And how would Drew be able to obtain and gather this information, and compile it for LE?

2. Why would money be needed to do this? Why would LE need $ to do this? That is the part that confuses me...why would Drew need to be funneling money and info to LE for them to do something they are already funded to do?

And if they "checked" all the sex offenders and verified them during the searches, then there shouldn't be ANY that are missing, correct?

Ok...this makes it even MORE weird:

http://www.cbs2iowa.com/shared/newsroom/top_stories/videos/kgan_vid_13287.shtml

"There are 54 missing sex offenders in the state of Iowa, and that's just too many," said Drew Collins

If Drew already knows this information...then why does a list need to be compiled, and $ given to LE?

How does he know this information if he's working on getting the information?

Something isn't right.

That just about makes me sick. What if the girls were alive up until then? What if the perp did drop them off at a park? What if they died of exposure at 7 Bridges between 11/13 when that note was made and when they were found on December 5?

eta: My concern with that theory is why wouldn't the girls walk the 1/2 mile to the nearest house? Maybe they were told to wait there for their parents? Maybe they were told that someone would come get them? If they were dropped off at night they maybe couldn't see to walk out of there?

In response to your questions (which are very good questions the whole community should be asking:

1. Yes, I would think the state would already have this list.

2. I don't know why money would be needed to do this. I've seen WebSleuthers compiling lists of sex offenders on their own w/o payment and I've noticed a lot of the ones we have looked at have been found, probably because of tips from some of our sleuthers. I've seen 2 in prison and several with new pics and addresses and the 1 sex offender who had failed to register in Waterloo and is here in Texas locked up. Good work guys!

How much of the funding for the park project is being "paid" to Drew? Not criticizing, just curious.

Looks like the temps for Nov 13 were 15-44. I'm assuming the 15 was the overnight low, the next day They were 35-55.
