Why are some of you having such a hard time believing that a perp could easily subdue two young girls? A knife, a gun, both easy to come by nowadays and would be extremely effective at getting two girls to cooperate without so much as a peep.

Wouldn't the logical choice have been to throw the purse in the lake if you thought there could be a phone in it?

I think that the perp had hold of Lyric and told Elizabeth to throw the purse over the fence.

If my theory is correct, then it doesn't matter if the cell phone was shorted out or not; the perp was planning to put both girls into a vehicle and be long gone by the time anyone noticed the purse.

All the perp wanted was to prevent a call to 911 that might bring LE immediately to the area (the police station isn't that far from Meyer's Lake; nothing in Evansdale is that far from anything else).

If my theory is correct, all the perp wanted was a 15 minute head start, more or less.

But if this was someone who was stalking Lyric, why not take her when she was alone? It is much more dangerous, IMO, to take two children. I know it has been done before, but it seems like Lyric was alone sometimes, IIRC. Wasn't she late in getting home not too long before they disappeared?

That is what I am leaning towards. Maybe to influence trial testimony? I think that is honestly the most hopeful scenario. If it was random, I don't think there will be a good outcome. I feel like le is being intentionally vague with the timeline and other details. It seems like they are trying to distract us from the details. Obviously they have to thououghly check the lake but it is also a good distraction from what else they are investigating. They repeatedly say they have no reason to think the girls are not in the area. . Why? I can think of a million reason's to think they are long gone from the area. Why aren't they firming the timeline up? I think they know way more and don't want an abductor to panic. Maybe I am being overly hopeful but that's moo.

If LE thinks the girls are being held somewhere, why are they draining the lake? And taking forever to do it...

Lyric may be used to seeing LE (because of parents) so if someone posed as LE, she probably would co-operate and little cousin would follow...........Just a thought

And now we're at six days. I'm so frustrated and yet feel horrible for feeling that way. I know this is difficult for LE.

She was with a different cousin at that time. Why assume it was Lyric who was stalked, when this was Elizabeth's neighborhood? And why assume that there was stalking, when it really could have been a random act out of convenience?

I am not assuming anything, was going off some earlier conversations about Lyric maybe being "groomed."

I do think totally random is less likely, but that is JMO.

2 people abducted, held and murdered happens everyday so 1 perp could do this to 2 little girls, no doubt in my mind at all.
Something in my mind is saying revenge.
Maybe a teen is mad for a dad going to jail?
Someone wants $$$$ owed for meth drug deal gone bad........
never thought LE would be involved???
Just thought it would effect parents???
so many thoughts .............

If this is directed at me, I do not have any trouble thinking that someone could easily subdue the girls with a weapon.

However, I was thinking about something that hadn't been mentioned on these threads yet that I recall...the girls going somewhere they were not supposed to, inside the gate and onto the jetty and someone "catching" them "breaking the law".

It would have been very easy to get them to go with the abductor with them knowing that they had done something wrong, IMO, without having to use a weapon or force.

Just another thought of what may have occurred and certainly not outside the realm of reality. People impersonate authority figures all the time.

Also, if the dogs hit on the jetty as the girls having been on it, then it makes even more sense, IMO, because that is not somewhere they should have been.

yes, parents said LCM went off to the park the week before with female cousin in Waterloo, MCM and Aunt Tammy could not find them...called LE and soon as LE came they came walking up the driveway.

They ventured off further and longer than anticipated

Cook-Morrissey said she'd be "more comfortable" with the theory that the girls might have been abducted "once they drain the lake and we find nothing there."

RBBM:waitasec: What?

http://www.cnn.com/2012/07/18/justice/iowa-missing-cousins/index.html

Elizabeth's mother (Misty's sister Heather) has said that her immediate gut reaction was that they had been abducted.

So I don't think it's going too far to assume that the family has been talking about what happened and may not be in total agreement. Not arguing, I haven't seen any indication of that but the two sisters having different theories about what happened.

I'm glad the lake is being drained so that the family can have their questions about the lake given a definite answer one way or the other.

Do you think somebody is holding them? Would that be a possibility? If so that would explain some of the language that LE is using - like no reason to believe there has been foul play, no reason to suspect the parents, etc.

I do. Felt from the beginning they were alive. I think it's someone local and knows them. I don't think the the father is involved, but his "past" just might; especially with the cohorts having court dates around and on their disappearance. Is there a lake or an area near there with cabins.. for a second home or hunting/fishing purposes? Locals?

Trying to remember, but didn't Misty say she had to go somewhere with her sister that day, but didn't exactly say where or what. Her answer was vague and I thought it was something to hang on to. Could they have gone to court for some reason for one of the persons caught with Daniel? Anyone else remember that?

The search for the two Cedar Valley youths comes not long after the seventh anniversary of the death of five-year-old Evelyn Miller of Floyd. Miller disappeared from her home and was missing for six days. She was found dead in the Cedar River. Her killer remains at large.

Smock prays for a different outcome for the local missing girls.

"We don't want people to panic. We're treating this as a disappearance, and we don't know why or how," he said.

The investigation is being conducted by the Evansdale police and fire departments. Abben said the cooperation between local, state and federal agencies has been phenomenal.

I would be in a panic if I had children and lived there.

Sorry i have no idea if this break rules or not but this talk about the Meth and could it play a role in all this, i cant help but remember a case from back home. the girl's names were Ashley Freeman and Lauira Bible from Welch Oklahoma. Older girls but they are still missing. The parents were messed up in Meth and the whole family paid the price. Like everyone else i hope these girls are ok.

I know when the girls were first missing, garages, outbuildings and such around town were searched, but quite frankly they could be held anywhere. I found the timing of the disappearance and the court dates intriguing as well.

The specifics of the Evelyn Miller case were quite different from this one. Evelyn was asleep in bed while her mother was at work and the mother's boyfriend was at the house. While no arrests were made for Eveyln's death, I believe there were suspects. If I recall correctly, the mother's boyfriend was arrested on separate charges some time later. There is a thread on WS for Evelyn if anyone is interested in her case.
