I know I'll probably get in trouble for saying this, but the simplicity of Lyric's burial brings home to me how excessive the whole Angels Park Memorial Island of Evansdale project is. JMO.

They wouldn't be allowed to do it here.

Australian Aboriginals have strong beliefs about the deceased, to the point that you can't even display a photograph of them or watch a movie with an actor who has passed away.

NO WAY would a huge memorial to two dead children be allowed on public land.

I wonder if they will scatter Lizzie's ashes there - another "insult" to the dead that our Aboriginal people just cannot accept.

It would be soooo politically incorrect here there is no way on earth it would be approved.

Get this.... not one mention of Lyric's burial on the Angels Park Memorial Island Facebook page!!!! https://www.facebook.com/AngelsParkMemorial?ref=ts&fref=ts

There is mention that at the concert "They will be selling bracelets there!" Says one excited poster....

:what:

This gets more bizarre by the second. Poor Lyric. :(

Those bracelet making kids probably have no finger-tips left by now.

They're going to need to make billions of them to see Angels Park to its glamorous conclusion.

I must have misunderstood. Did that mean that the children were abducted, but that they were lured ... specifically by someone that they were happy to go with?

Regarding the method that was used to lure/abduct the children, I doubt we'll ever know that.

ab·duc·tion
/abˈdəkSHən/
Noun
1.The action or an instance of forcibly taking a person or persons away against their will.
2.(in legal use) The illegal removal of a child from parents or guardians.

If it's a child, it's always abduction, no matter if the child was "lured" or grabbed.

OMG, OMG, OMG, OMG... not even seeing an "arrest has been made" link would have surprised (or shaken) me more than seeing this simple message here today.

My sentiments exactly.

Let's assume that they went somewhere else first with a non-familial person - maybe they went for an ice cream. Under what circumstances are they going to be unconcerned and free to run when they arrive at the remote spot where their remains were found?

If they are with a cute 16 year old boy that just got his license that one or both had a crush on.

DITTO and from link provided by Unique (and ty unique):

EVANSDALE (KWWL) -
KWWL heard from a few people, including Heather Collins, mother of Elizabeth Collins, that a private service for Lyric was held Friday.

It was unclear if any additional events, like a burial, were conducted.

The family of Lyric Cook has generally kept to themselves during the disappearance and discovery of their daughter's remains, choosing to hold a "Celebration of Lyric's Life" without media presence and staying largely out of the public eye.

That's in contrast to the family of Elizabeth Collins, who frequently updated the public through the media, held a public, live streamed memorial for Elizabeth and plans a public burial service for her on May 4.

You are so right! :notgood: Faster, faster, more bracelets, more bracelets!! :thewhip: And I doubt if the island gets one gazebo, much less five! And while we're at it, it feels like a sham and the money is being funneled to fill-in-the-blank______________ and whomever is in cahoots with them.

From the site -

Q. How Can I donate directly to the Project to help build the memorial?

I hope you don't get in trouble for saying that. We are all entitled to speak our mind as long as we aren't bashing. That's not to say that we must agree with everything the families do. :(

I agree with you wholeheartedly. Lyric's family is doing what I myself would expect a grieving family to do. And this is just MY opinion.
I EXPECT a family to go into "grieving mode".
I EXPECT a family to not make spectacles of themselves.
I EXPECT a family to mourn the loss of their baby. Burying her in a very private, close knit family service...inviting only those who knew Lyric and would directly feel the loss of her precious life.

Those are all the things that I see Lyric's immediate family doing. They don't appear to want much to do with the publicity and attention being drawn to Evansdale.

We are all bystanders. We (although affected) didn't know Lyric, Misty, Dan, Wylma, or Tammy. And although I'm sure they appreciate everyone wanting to send their condolences, I completely understand why they would want to lay their baby to rest in a peaceful, private setting.

I would like to know too! I bet we can start with the people who clear cut "the island" and the people who are organizing the concert.

I "liked" the page as well when they announced the page.
I get notifications on my feed daily about the concert and all the artists that are being added to the venue.
Along with that, are reminders of "we know most of you won't be able to attend, but here is where you can make donations in your absence". Along with that is "share, share, share this post so we can raise as much money as possible".

I think a memorial is an excellent idea. I think they are creating something exceptionally more than a memorial...I can't think of a better word than shrine.

I'm not sure what the Aboriginals have to do with Angels' Park.

Aboriginals have control over what happens on public land in Australia? I find it hard to believe that they have any control over whether someone's ashes are scattered.

Even MSM finds it necessary to mention the complete contrast in how the families are handling the passing of these two cousins.

Ohhh yes, my friend... the expression that keeps going through my mind these days is that "fools rush in where angels fear to thread."

My point is, there are probably many people in Iowa who do not wish to see a memorial to two dead girls on public land, for whatever reason, and I don't blame them.

http://www.cfneia.org/give/listofestablishedfunds/646-angels-memorial-fund

The original pamphlet describes fundraising for ONE gazebo, and related landscaping, not the entire island.

From the look of the Facebook page and the cfneia site, these people have already raised far in excess of the $100k originally sought.

Instead of the fund being shut down once it hit target, the goal posts have been shifted...more gazebos! more landscaping! more money! more, more, more!

It would cost about $50k just to stage the concert they are talking about.

The contrast is very odd...but is the reason we are viewing it as odd due to the fact that the two girls were murdered by the same person? Imagine that they are two separate unrelated cases. There have been cases in the past where the family has held an elaborate public memorial. Samantha Runnion's memorial was open to the public, held at the famous Crystal Cathedral, and shown on CNN. National TV! They are building a memorial park for Jessica Ridgeway, whose memorial service was also open to the public. On the other hand, there have been many murdered children who have had private services. I believe that all of the memorials/funerals for the Newtown victims were private, for example.

There's also something wrong with the timing.

Grandma was mad by 12.30, mad enough to jump in her car with her nephew and go looking.

This tells me that the girls were called in at least 12.15, to give grandma 15 minutes to build up a head of steam about them disobeying.

They were within earshot at 12.15, this is fact.

Why didn't they go inside at 12.15 when expected? Why do they appear to be speeding away from the house at 12.15?

I believe they were at the house at 12.15 and something or someone happened to make them speed to the lake instead of getting ready to leave with grandma.

I also feel the purse (and the bikes) were staged by the perp to imply a random, off-highway abduction.

:cow:

Yeah, I think the bikes were staged and everything about the lake is a red herring. And that 12:15 time is critical for all the rest.

Is it possible that while the grandmother was out looking, the girls came home and found her not there, and were then rushing to try to catch up with her? Or that something happened to them there? Maybe a friend/neighbor saying, "Oh, she's at xxxx, just throw your bikes in the back and I'll take you to her?"

I guess I'm not really clear even now on what the family's movements at the house were while they were looking for the girls.
