If perp lived very close to Meyers Lake, as in almost on the lake, how would he be caught on cctv.

The perp may have seen the girls entering the bike trail on many occasions, then planned the abduction and murder when he thought the time was right, i.e. if he had neighbours, he knew when they were working or when they would be on vacation.

Is it possible the purse was left behind because the perp(s) knew there was a cell phone in it and they feared they could be tracked/pinged/located per the cell phone??
If so, how many people knew Elizabeth had a cell phone in her purse I wonder?

I don't even think the girls took their phone or bag that day. Why would they, it wasn't even working apart from games and 911?

I believe the perp staged them, to imply a random highway abduction.

I remain aware that the family are the only ones who could identify those bikes and that particular purse and phone actually, definitively, belonged to our girls.

I am not asking anyone to repeat a statement made in July, nor do I feel that a comment made several months ago is untrue.

But out of all the family members impacted by this horrible crime, I find it unusual that not one of has come forward to demand answers, or to indicate any dissatisfaction with how the investigation has gone to date. JMO

I understand what you are saying here, but is it possible the families fear other members of their respective families could also become victims and prefer to remain out of the limelight? Like the "family" targeted for some reason? Were L&E targeted? Perhaps, but we question why.

That's certainly a highly plausible scenario, and probably more likely than the staging. Staging with two bikes requires some effort and definitely increases the risk. But if somebody close to the girls (not meaning parents!) was targeting them, it might be worth directing attention away from the immediate family/friends/neighbors circle.

A massive percentage of crimes show an aspect of staging, in fact IIRC it's almost all of them.

"Staging" doesn't have to mean much, all it means is that an attempt has been made to alter the scene.

Opening a window, shutting one, taking a gun butt out of a loved one's mouth, helping yourself to a wallet or a nice watch - all considered "staging".

I think law abiding people have a hard time imagining a criminal mind, which is concerned with two things only - committing the crime, and not getting caught (which is another reason I find the spider/fly scenario impossible, it would just be too darn risky for too little reward).

For those of you who feel the bikes were staged, what would the perp accomplish by doing that? To mislead LE into thinking the girls had drowned in the lake, or to mislead LE into believing the girls had been taken from the park?

NNMO, but to throw LE off! If the bikes and purse had been discovered say at the skate park, I don't think the lake would have been drained. Maybe, but I think drowning would not have been as hot a topic as it was on the 13th and the days following as the lake was drained. LE did cover their bases. They did perform everything they should have if it was an abduction.... which I do believe it was an abduction.

OT but last night's episode of FBI: Criminal Pursuit featured 3 separate child abductions by same perp (and suspected of many more): Midsi Sanchez, http://www.sfgate.com/news/article/Daring-escape-by-stolen-girl-3051893.php ; Xiana Fairchild http://www.websleuths.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-22346.html and
Amber Jean Swartz-Garcia. Very, very interesting. Focus is family first. Xiana Fairchild's mother and her boyfriend were kept under 24 hour surveillance for 8 months. Boyfriend had failed lie detector test and the clothes they described Xiana wearing the day she was abducted were found in the family's dryer, clean and neatly folded. Sad and tragic ending for a beautiful innocent child. Mark Klaas quickly helped raise the reward for Xiana to $75,000. FBI freaked when Midsi was abducted. They felt certain it was the same perp that had taken Xiana. Midsi Sanchez was a very brave 8-year-old girl at the time!

You're right, there isn't any evidence to rule it out, in fact we don't have much evidence of any kind. :banghead:

FBI agents that worked Xiana Fairchild and Midsi Sanchez cases say that is how child abductions are. . . it is as if the child vanishes off the face of the earth. . . no evidence.

This is what I was wanting to show you guys. This is behind the pump house in maiden lane area. This is where I think the perp parked his vehicle, and walked the girls thru maiden lane woods. Watch how open it is when there is no leaves hiding the area.

Cinder, do you think the path you walked back on was there before the bodies were found and LE etc. beat a trail down? Or couldn't you tell?

Because I'm getting a vibe of an almost ritual layout in that clearing...

I think there is a possibility the bikes could have been staged Marilyn.

I believe the reason for the (possible) staging could have been to keep LE, family, volunteers and any other individuals involved in the search, off the roadways and mainly focused in the park and the surrounding area, to avoid detection while transporting the girls and the likelihood of being stopped by LE would be lessened.
