I tend to agree with you, 3CK.

Recent research has seemed to indicate that the vast majority of sex offenders do not repeat. It doesn't make their initial crime any less heinous but it does mean that a great deal of the effort going to protect the public is being turned to places where it's not helping a lot. Maybe more of the effort and money could go to trying to figure out how to identify the ones who are likely to reoffend? I dunno. But it seems like most of this stuff with registries and addresses and public lists is not doing anything to make our kids safer.

IDK, people that abuse children for their own sexual perversion in my opinion deserve no rights. No respect, nothing. The only thing they deserve is castration. Please do NOT take this as "supporting" sex offenders, because I'm NOT, it's just my :twocents: on the EFFECTIVENESS of this.

If they are going to do this, then I think they should "spread the equality" and do it for people who have been charged with OWI, Armed Robbery, Dealing Drugs, etc.

Why target sex offenders out of all the criminals? Yes, sexual offenses are labeled the most heinous by societal standards...however, the # of people killed by someone who drives drunk every day is much higher than those killed by sexual predators. "Everyone knows someone who has gotten an OWI, and we've all probably gotten lucky by not getting caught driving when we shouldn't have" is what I hear all the time. :furious:

Who is at a higher risk of harming someone?

By all means, let's allow our kids ride their bikes on the road where the jerk comes swerving home every day or deals drugs by schools...that's so much safer.

I don't know how this would stop an offender from re-offending anymore than it would stop a drunk from picking up a roadie for his drive home.

But whatever, I'm sure I'm in the minority here with my opinion and that's ok. I just feel it's a false sense of security for communities and a PR thing for people to feel that LE has it all under control.

I guess my counterpoint would be that these signs are placed in front of the homes of sexual predators. Regardless of statistics, I would still be much more concerned if my children were near the home of a sexual predator than if they were near the home of someone convicted of OWI or armed robbery or drug dealing. JMO. None of those crimes would have my child as his intended victim, IMO.

A sexual predator is usually a person who has been convicted of committing a sexually oriented offense and who is likely in the future to commit additional sexually oriented offenses. I think I'd be more worried about him. JMO

About the signs, however, I just don't know how effective they will be. If a sexual predator is going to strike again, I don't think a sign in front of his house will do anything to stop him.

I share your feelings of despise for these people, BUT:
Castration isn't going to stop someone from re-offending...there are plenty of other ways to sexually molest a child other than your penis. Also, how does that stop female predators?

I agree...something has to be done. I don't have the answers, but simply hating them and thinking we can kill everyone who has these tendencies is unrealistic.

I just wish I had an answer that would actually HELP the situation.

The point is, we don't have a way to identify which sexual predators are likely to re-offend. Right now we've decided to err on the side of caution and say, "label everybody." But that doesn't seem to be doing a lot of good.

And you're right about the signs not stopping anybody. There was a case here recently where a guy wearing his tracker bracelet attacked a young boy right in front of a sporting goods store surveillance camera.

On the contrary, I think that the killer was just very familiar with the traffic at seven bridges, he knew very well when the park was active and when it wasn't. This tells me he is very local and has lived in the area for his whole life.

Makes me wonder if this person had been scoping out the day care center near by. Thank God, IIRC the day care center moved to a different location. I think I read that the workers would take the children on daily walks in the park as part of their routine.

It's not for ALL offenders...just the high risk to re-offend. If you look on their RSO page, it will tell you if there are residency restrictions or not.

Seem's as though LE may be walking on egg shells for a good reason, speaking softly with simple question's untill the perp slip's up and he will it's just a matter of time . Then the hard Question's and harsh word's come out .Hang in there Lyric & Elizabeth you both will have Justice we are not going to forget you. W/S are going to stay in here till Justice is done. BBM.... I agree. No signage is going to stop him. I think we have the state and national registry that is easily accessible to everyone. I think if you have kids, grandkids, friends with kids, neighbors with kids you need check that registery vigilently. Somebody new moves into the neighborhood check the registery. Doesn't mean he/she will register if they are a sex offender and have been caught, but watch the registry for the ones that are registered in your area.

I agree with you totally and completely Just Pat! I feel the same way. If there is another abduction, I think Evansdale will revolt and LE will be feeling some anger and heat to get this creep.
