What I find amazing is this:

Still, Klunder’s name crossed his mind last July when he saw news coverage of the disappearance of Elizabeth Collins and Lyric Cook-Morrissey from Evansdale, Scranton said.

Then, Scranton took solace believing that Klunder was still incarcerated, he said. Collins and Cook-Morrissey were found dead Dec. 5, and investigators in the case are now following up to see if there is any evidence Klunder could have been involved.

Call me crazy, but if this guy's name immediately popped in his head, wouldn't you actually VERIFY this guy was still locked up? LE from BHC stated he was never looked into, so clearly no phone call was even made to say "hey...this case sounds strangely familiar to a case with a guy named Michael Klunder...you might want to check into the guy, last I knew he was still in the clink, but just to be safe at least check it out." If nothing but for peace of mind.

:banghead:

If this guy was suppose to be had been sentenced for 40+ years in prison LE may not have considered him a threat when he was suppose to have been lockup for that period of time. I would think they would get some sort of notification when someone of his statue was released early but I don't know the answer to that.

The Tyson plant is near Myers Lake, he was working with hogs, I wonder if he had any dealings with Tyson?

Think about Desi's story, she said he told them that if they complied, he wouldn't hurt them. What if Lizzie and Lyric just complied? He drives them out to Seven Bridges, he seemed to take his previous victims into isolated rural areas that were off of gravel roads, he get them there, zip ties them, and then takes the first girl back, and then the second. Lizzie was only eight, Desi is twelve-there's a world of difference between the ages and how they'd react in such a terrifying situation.

Desi saw her opportunity to run, but knew some of the landmarks, and she was older. Lizzie was only eight, and I doubt she would've had a clue where she was up by seven bridges. There have been other children who remained when they had an opportunity to run, like Polly Klass, she actually waited for him to come back to get her. Lizzie could easily have just waited for him to come back, after all if you comply, he won't hurt you.

Well, at the very least, Klunder was no doubt inspired by the girls abduction, and time will tell if he's the one responsible.

Meanwhile, the 12-year-old who survived Monday's abduction relayed her story to the local newspaper, the Dayton Leader, and Iowa Public Radio. She said she wanted her friend to be found alive.

She said Klunder asked them if they wanted to make money mowing lawns and promised to give them a ride home so they could ask their parents. She said she knew something was wrong when they ended up at a hog confinement.

Considering LE was so "certain" the girls were alive, this guy is the first person they should have investigated...he kidnapped people of all ages, did not kill any as far as was known.

ETA: if he IS the guy and Katherine is dead...LE really messed up IMO.

I'm kinda lagging behind here, need help. Is LE thinking this is connected to Evansdale?

Poor Kathlynn, they found her blood on the tailgate of his truck and near the hog confinement.

Quote respectfully snipped by me.

I think you might be on to something. He worked for a hog confinement that was wean to finish. That means they raised baby pigs into adult pigs until they were ready to be sold and processed. They absolutely 100% would have had dealings with Tyson and any other pork processing plant.

The gun he had was a gun used for euthanizing livestock.

Still amazed at the handling of Kathlynn's case versus Lizzie and Lyric. :(

For some reason LE in BHC appear to believe that releasing next to no information is the key to solving the case. :waitasec:

A reporter just asked if the cases were connected to E&L and all he would say is right now the focus is on finding Kathlynn, after she's found they'll be devoting more resources to possible linkage.

I take that to mean they haven't ruled him out right away, so that ball is still up in the air.

Poor Kathlynn, I hope it doesn't take 5 months to find her.

Well, I'm sure it helps when you don't have to worry about compromising evidence as you juggle building a case.

Funny you mention that...I've questioned that on multiple occasions throughout this 10 months. What is more important in the investigation (during the initial 5 months of searching), building the rock solid case? OR releasing information (if they had any) that could have actually led them to the discovery of the girls?

LE in this case released nothing. Hunters happened upon the body, LE had nothing at all to do with it. It was sheer chance and a blessing from above that those hunters were there that day.

What's more important, building the rock solid case or actually giving up some evidence that could lead to tips?

Personal opinions aside, I am wondering why this man was never looked at for Lyric and Lizzie.

A guy with a known history of kidnapping children, living in Iowa, an RSO, recently released.

It's a bit of a worry when BHCSO had never even heard of him, despite running this investigation for nearly a year alongside the FBI and other agencies.

2 reasons:
he was not living in the area when this crime occurred
he was let out of prison because he passed their offender program!
He obviously "snowed over" the jail/prison decision makers, his family, his new wife, his employer etc...
He even went back to school! He had to be around younger people at school too which is beyond scary.
That is why I do not believe these offenders are ever "cured". I just don't buy it!
Just my opinion of course.

My own personal hell (NOTHING compared to the hell endured by TRUE crime victims whose cases we are so DRAWN to) has caused me to have to leave here early yesterday and only login now for the first time today.

There were so many alerts in my email that I only took the time to read latest one... it mentioned the 12 y.o. having said her hands were tied w/those ?plastic ties... (know what they are but can't think what they're called) and the perp leaving, near her, that type of gun used to put-down-animals and the hog confinement area and that the 15 y.o. girl's blood was found on the ?tailgail of perp's truck... I think I'm going to be sick...

Please somebody take the time to answer this question:

The 15 y.o. has not been found, is that correct? TIA

I keep thinking abt our fellow WSer Peeples who months ago was traveling to old livestock type places... at this point in my last week and this day, I know even less than usual how to express that...

And thinking of all our discussions here of the feeding habits of pigs... and my joking about MK's main pic on fb having the insert of the pic of a pig...

Again, I'm less clear here than ever...

Remember when we were talking and joking about wild hogs.

It has been a while, so I can't recall...were tire tracks found in the little grassy alcove area in the wooded area to the east of the lake? If so, I wonder if they possibly got impressions that could be tied to MK's truck.

Running so far behind here...

Please forgive my being blunt... I'm hoping you know how much I respect you and enjoy your posts...

bbm - On the current subj case... one huge difference, imo, LE has a d*mn good witness the same day as the abduction...

I read that his truck a toyota tundra had no license plates just a sticker. Now that tells me he didn't have that truck long.
