I think the criminal history of some of the parents and the drama surrounding that situation caused many, including LE to focus too much on the immediate area of E'dale. MOO

And they may have been right to do that, but this new wrinkle makes me wonder if that was a critical mistake.

It's bigger than that, to me.

We know the FBI was involved in this one...allegedly, they still are.

Is it too much of a stretch to ask that kidnappers of children be permanently flagged, so that when a kidnapping crime occurs, their name crops up? I thought that's what computers were for - searchable databases. :banghead:

Am I being totally foolish to hoped that there is some sort of concerted effort made to track offenders against children?

It seems like no one ever heard of this guy, yet here he is, a known double kidnapper fresh from jail, ripe and ready to go, and there's Evansdale/Bremer connections all over him.

I had hoped that there were child protection task forces throughout the FBI and other agencies, who had a handle on this sort of thing, at least to the point of making themselves familiar the names of known abductors of children - especially in their own state.

Apparently I was wrong. :maddening:

BBM

It just infuriates me that this guy was on no one's radar.

I'm really thinking this isn't our guy, based on my understanding of Lyric and Lizzie's case. JMO.

But . . . the fact that Klunder kidnapped two children at the same time and dumped them miles away does make me wonder why his name apparently never came up when the girls were abducted.

Maybe it's just a case of hindsight being 20/20, but I think someone investigating Lyric and Lizzie's case should have looked into anyone who served time for abducting two children at the same time.

One of MK's friends on his FB page is also a RSO who lives on River Forest Road in Evansdale. Initials are TC.

I don't want to implicate someone innocent, but that would give MK a reason to be "working or visiting in the Evansdale area" that day. And it just so happens that TC's "works at" on his FB page states "fishing".

Wow - another coincidence?

Regarding DNA, at the Dayton press conference yesterday the investigator said the crime lab is really backed up and getting DNA tested typically takes months. They rushed the test of the blood at the recent crime scene because it's obviously time critical, but testing MK re the Evansdale girls may not be such a high priority in the context of all the other cases they have to test.

Ok. This is what Ive read elsewhere, now... extent of his drug addiction and network ? After his (religious awakening, recent?) has he taken a strong anti drug stance? Does he have a drug connection to Waterloo! ... or, to any of the people Dan was connected with?

I'd be just as interested in knowing if there is a church connection to Drew & Heather. :moo:

Now, police are looking into whether Klunder had any connection to the slayings of two cousins who disappeared while riding their bikes last July in Evansdale, about 90 miles from Dayton. The bodies of the girls, 10-year-old Lyric Cook and 8-year-old Elizabeth Collins, were found in a wooded area in December.

"I really hope that it's him. My fear all along was that this person was out there and could harm another child. Now we have another missing little girl, and I really do hope that it's him," said the cousins' aunt, Tammy Brousseau.

"It seems that he chooses females, but the age range doesn't seem to matter. The little toddlers were only 3. The other woman was 21. These girls were 15 and 12," Brousseau said. "Our girls were 8 and 10."

Heather Collins, the mother and aunt of the abducted Evansdale cousins, truly hopes there is a connection.

"He could be the guy," Collins said. "He knew Waverly pretty well. We're just waiting on the authorities to do their job -- FBI, DCI and police."

For nearly six months, Collins said multiple leads have been shared with her family. It wasn't until now that there appeared to be a direct connection to her daughter and niece.

I think finding the vehicle he was using last year may be key to this -

There may be evidence of the girls in that vehicle?

It sure is hard to ignore a possible connection between MK and Lizzie and Lyric.

I was just mapping out possibilities and MK going from Dayton to Tyson Foods would take him RIGHT by Meyer's Lake. With the construction back in July would it have forced him off the interstate to River Forest Road? Or could he have gotten back onto the interstate via River Forest? I can't remember which entrances/exits were under construction.

I just wonder if maybe he had baby pigs or something with him to show Tyson (feeders) and that's how he lured the girls into the truck. Maybe he told them he'd take them to see more baby pigs...what little girl wouldn't want to see that?!

Or maybe he stopped at the gas station there on River Forest Road and the girls were riding by down River Forest on their way to the back side of the lake. He tells them to meet him at the lake. Or he tells them to throw their bikes in the back, he'll take them home to ask their parents if they can go see the baby pigs. He drives over on the other side of the lake - dumps the bikes - and takes them out of town.

I can absolutely see the girls being lured by baby pigs. They are adorable!

Thanks, I am just trying to make a link between MK and Evansdale. I just think he would be a person who appears to have a job where he could be unaccounted for - for significant amounts of time.

If he traveled to Tyson for any reason, that takes him right by Evansdale (directly by Meyer's Lake) and depending on the construction last summer he may have been frequently traveling right through Evansdale.

Maybe that was a frequent stop for him to grab a pop, lunch, etc. between drives.

We know he picked up Kathlynn and the 12 year old right after school hours so that puts him "available" during the day if he frequently drives around...and unaccounted for. He could say he's traveling to a hog buyer, Tyson, vet, another operation, etc. and could be gone for hours. Very easy to explain a few hours of time where no one would know for certain where he really was.

We have said all along that this person would have to either not have a job at all, or would have one where he wouldn't have to "report" into a place where people would notice his absence, or had taken vacation etc. Hell, he took these girls right to the hog operation and no one was there, so my assumption is he worked alone frequently (enough to know that no one would show up at the "office area" where he took the two girls).

Very possible that you nailed it Tlcya! Or will BHC attempt to make the evidence from this recent case fit the Waterloo case? Seems impossible...IKR?!
