hey welcome back cindersoot.

I was trying to find that wonderful link you provided a month back or so about the girls remains being partially decomposed. I am almost sure you provided that link abut a search of this and the last thread is not turning it up.

JMO, but maybe LE was looking for the white van guy (who later was identified and interviewed by LE and called a potential witness who it turns out witnessed nothing IIRC) because they heard about a white SUV or van looking vehicle on Arbutus and so when looking at surveillance videos of the local businesses they were on the lookout for any white SUVs or Van type vehicles. Just so happened that guy with the white Astro van happened to be at the Casey's that day.

The more I think about it, I wonder if they may have a partial license plate or one that is no longer registered? Does the DMV keep records of license that are no longer registered? I know if that was me I would have looked at the plate & remembered something about it. However, I'm very observant and nosey!

SapphireSteel, I think that there is still confusion about the white van.

LE is describing a white SUV which is not the same vehicle as the van sighted at Caseys'...and has nothing to do with that incident. This is why the release of photo/s of the vehicle/s of interest is very important, imo..

If you go and read the links I've provided, there is a section where I call it a white van/suv/truck/whatever.

I meant a NON CAR vehicle, white in colour, of relatively small size. which could easily transport the perps, the victims, and the bikes (maybe).

LE were looking for the driver of a white van. The Caseys van driver was eliminated, but that only meant that particular van and driver were cleared. I have stated many times that LE would have an excellent idea of what vehicles were on the streets of Evansdale that day, and there is a mystery white van/suv on their cctv that they cannot locate or identify.

The vehicle used to take the girls.

Whoever did this went so far as to change the plates.

Either replaced them with stolen, or removed them altogether (unlikely). Maybe just with a sharpie, it's enough to fool cctv cameras and casual observers.

This was very well planned.

tlcya, it's all in the interpretation, isn't it? Guess, it is not only possible, but probable that the investigator/s misinterpreted the siting as being a white van..
When I think of a sexual predator or serial killer, seems that I always visualize a white van being somewhere in the picture..

SS, I'm visualizing an older SUV 80's or even 70's - truly boxlike SUVs...

The wheels of Justice turn very slowly, cindersoot..
Investigators have only sent DNA to the FBI crime lab a few days ago.

Quote: Dr Know Jun 21, 2013
Evidence in Dayton, Evansdale cases headed to FBI crime lab

“It’s predominately evidence that would have DNA relevance,” Meyers said. “We’ve been working for the last week or so to determine what evidence would meet the necessary submission for the FBI crime lab.”

Meyers said the FBI analysis likely will be a lengthy process and that other work will continue locally at the same time. He would not say what the evidence was or where it was found.

If you look at pictures of white full size chevy pickups with a white topper on the back, it looks like a large boxy suv, type suburban. JMO

This is what I was hoping for yesterday. The phones would be buzzing. I wonder what the specific information is? Type of plates on the SUV, a fender bent? A stripe? Extra dark tint? Type of wheels/tires? Lifted?

Smock said investigators have already received a number of phone calls following their request for the public’s assistance. “We have a lot of people calling in ... and we will follow up on all those calls,” he said. “But we are really looking for specific information.”

I was wondering when you scoped out the park at Myers Lake and took your bike ride did you notice any vehicles in that area that met the old boxy SUV description?

I was away for a few days. Catching up.
Good to see some movement(?). :fence:

Sorry to jump in here, as I've been lurking and am usually too busy to post, but I've been wondering about similarities between this case, the Jacob Wetterling case and other cases in and around St. Joseph/MN/IA/WI etc. I've followed the Jacob Wetterling case for a long time and have often wondered what the perps outlet is now. If he lives in St. Joe, driving 3 hours to look for new victims seems entirely reasonable if the urge is strong enough and he's already under suspicion and doesn't want to raise any "local" flags.

Thoughts?

Nope didn't see a description like that.

“But we are really looking for specific information.”
Chief Smock sums up this entire investigation in one sentence. Attaboy, Chiefy! Work smart, not hard! Let it come to you!

If Klunder was the killer, wouldn't we know by now?

Personally, I think if they were sure that the killer was NOT Klunder, we would know by now. I don't think they've been able to easily rule him out. :moo:

Grainne Dhu, compliance of the victim/s is the first rule of prey in abductions. imo, if L & L were compliant to the abductor's demands, they may have been forced to walk near the location where their bodies were located in 7 bridges park.

Obviously their bodies got there and it was via illegal means.

I may not have been very clear (right now I'm in an extended care/rehab facility and I keep getting interrupted plus I'm still regaining my strength). What I was trying to say was that before Lyric and Elizabeth's remains were found, any LE search of 7 Bridges may have been done keeping the statistic in mind that most predators leave a body within 75 feet of a roadway. Their bodies were found more than 75 feet off the nearest road, so may well have been outside the search perimeter.

I further meant to speculate that due to budget and personnel constraints, LE has to prioritise search areas; Elizabeth and Lyric's remains may well have been quite a way beyond a low priority search area's perimeter. There are less than 9000 households in Bremer County, which isn't a whole lot of people to be supporting a sheriff's department to cover an entire county.

For both reasons, I don't see fault with the Bremer County Sheriff's Department. I'm sure the officers who conducted the original search of 7 Bridges had good intentions and were devastated when they realised how close they had been.

Tangential thought: As for whether Klunder did it, I have no doubt that if he'd been at the scene last 13 July, he would have done it. The question in my mind is whether he was on the scene. And that is a question that may not be easily answered.
