First Smock stepped down from the Fire Department, and now this. I wonder if any more announcements will be made? Something doesn't feel right about this. I wonder if the case will take on a new direction?

I really hope so, hopefully that new direction leads to an arrest. It's been far too long.

I remember being very disheartened upon hearing about the fingerprint mix-up or screw-up at a higher level. I was kind of disappointed that Drew didn't mention missing Lyric too in the video about Angels Park. Maybe he blames Dan. Guess I shouldn't say that because I haven't walked in his shoes. So much chaos surrounding the families. Hoping that fresh eyes bring an arrest too. RIP Lyric and Lizzy.

Can you refresh my memory about the fingerprint mix-up? I just can't remember it right now.

Found this little "tidbit" while doing some more sleuthing.

The chief remained tight-lipped when questioned about details of the cousins' disappearance. For instance, Smock said investigators have "an idea" of how much time passed between the girls' July 13, 2012, disappearance and when they were killed. However, he would not release that detail to reporters.

Smock also declined to answer whether he and the DCI agent presented specific suspects or theories of the crime to the national experts last week. There are several working theories of the cousins' slaying, including scenarios that a lone actor killed the cousins and that multiple people were involved.

"Some say one, some say multiples," he said. "Those are things that only the person or persons responsible would know."

Since the girls' bodies were found, "a multitude of people" have been on a list of suspects possibly involved in the slaying, Smock said.

Investigators have not ruled out that the killings could be connected to drug activity involving Cook-Morrissey's parents, Smock said. Both of the girl's parents, Daniel Morrissey and Misty Morrissey, have a history of methamphetamine-related arrests and both are incarcerated.

In December 2013, police began looking at Todd Michael Henriksen as a potential suspect after he was arrested on felony drug charges with Misty Morrissey.

Smock declined to say whether any of the girls' family members were familiar with the wildlife area. At the time of the disappearance, Cook-Morrissey was 10 and Collins was 8.

"I have little doubt that this case will eventually be solved," he said. "I truly believe we're waiting on one phone call."

I missed Henriksen being mentioned as a potential suspect. Was I just living in a hole and missed this, and you all knew about him?

I don't recall ever reading that. I tried searching to see if his name came up on WS before, but all I find is his initial drug arrest.

I wish that article would have clarified if he's still a suspect or if they've ruled him out.

It sounds like the only reason he's a suspect is because of the association. But you never know.

Geez! I must have been in the same hole with 3CK. I don't remember this guy Henriksen. He looks creepy. Misty looks awful!

Here's an update on the state crime lab firing worker after noting errors: <sbm>

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa public safety officials are tightening oversight at the state police crime lab after firing an employee they said mishandled fingerprint data.

Authorities said a review shows at least nine cases analyzed by the staffer in 2012 contained errors, and in two of those cases the employee missed the opportunity to match the data to a suspect. The department is contacting local authorities impacted by the mistakes and plans to toughen their review process.

The name of the fired employee, who was fired Wednesday, was not released. The employee had been with the department for more than 16 years.

This explains some of the FB comments:

"Smock encouraged members of the public to report any person they know who is "very familiar" with Seven Bridges, including people who have hunted, camped or fished there. Smock, an Evansdale native, said the park also was a popular meeting spot for high school students and young people."

That made the hair on my head stand up. Of course, Smock admits that could "net" hundreds or thousands of people. I bet there is someone who has a pretty good idea of who did this and is afraid to come forward. I still wonder if they were able to get any tire impressions from the Seven Bridges area that could have been related.

I wonder how much "random" DNA they collected from Seven Bridges? (cups, bottles, cigarette butts, etc.)

This would give someone an innocent reason for their DNA to be there.

Couple that "random" DNA with the "random" DNA they collected at the lake and that equals a lot of DNA. I wonder if there was any attempt to match DNA from Seven Bridges and Meyers Lake/Angels Park? Probably too costly to go that route.

Sounds like even though the Collins family reports to have been pleased with the investigation, it's clear that several co-workers on multiple occasions filed complaints. One of which felt could result in gun fire?!!
Makes me wonder how well these people worked together, or if grudges and conflicting opinions resulted in this trip to Quantico to get a non biased opinion as to where their focus should be.
Quite interesting that shortly after this trip Smock gets the boot.
The last thing this case needs is bs like this going on. There are already enough components to make this case extremely difficult to solve, no need to add in issues between the damn investigators.
This whole thing just ticks me right off.

So, how many of us think Smock may have messed up this investigation in some way?

 • #958
I'm not sure if I think he mucked up the investigation...I believe the FBI has been the primary on the investigation most of the time. I do believe that Smock is a slimy puke though! [emoji19]

Sorry - the link on KWWL's website should work now. There was much complaining on Facebook about it not working. You really have to read between the lines - quite literally. I wonder if the other person could be the wife of another officer? Jmo. Haven't heard rumors. Interesting how letters were written to the city council. Things have to be pretty bad to get to that point.

BBM That's what was said under the article on one site I read.
