WINNESHIEK COUNTY, Iowa (KWWL) -- A Decorah man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the death of his father, a missing 74-year-old Winneshiek County man.

Sunday, Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office reported Aaron Gary Whittle, 43, was charged in the death of Lawrence Paul Whittle.

The jury trial of Decorah resident Aaron Whittle, charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of his stepfather, is scheduled to take place October 3rd. However, Whittle's defense attorney has filed a motion in Winneshiek County District Court asking for a delay in the trial date.

Assistant Public Defender Les Blair III says in the court papers "discovery and other matters necessary for the resolution are ongoing." Blair says he has contacted prosecutors in the case, who will not resist the motion for a delay in the trial date.

A judge denied his request on Tuesday, keeping his bond set to $1,000,000. [snip] Whittle's trial is scheduled to begin in February 2023.

Thought I would do a little digging on this one.
AW confessed to fatally shooting his father. The murder happened on 3/17/22 and he confessed to LE on 3/20/22.
The complaint gives the address of the shooting as 2622 Sand Rock Rd, which was also documented as Aaron Whittle's home address.

2622 Sand Rock Rd was listed for sale as a 3 parcel property where you could by 1,2 or all 3 parcels. It sold 4 days ago for $790k

In a separate court filing, Whittle lists Riverview Dairy, LLC as his employer; a search of that address shows property records for a home and farm belonging to Lawrence Whittle. The home is about 8 miles from where Lawrence's pickup was found.

Apparently LE has not discovered LW's body. There are some great pictures of LW at this link.

According to LW's obituary he and his late wife 'bought a farm near Freeport, IA, where they farmed for many years. He and Bev enjoyed traveling to New York, the national parks out West, and taking several trips to Las Vegas. He loved spending time with his family and never missed a family event or holiday.'

Larry Whittle was a lifelong cattle farmer, and often spent time at the Decorah Sales Commission. They called Larry Whittle a well respected cattle farmer in the community. He often spent time there, and the commission honored him by saving his favorite seat at auction with a vest and hat.
Leroy McClintock has known Larry Whittle since the 70′s. He called the news of his friend’s death a shock.
“A tragedy to the community. Going to be a great loss,” said McClintock. “I can’t comprehend, I’ve called on his farm for years.
