It happened to Mickey Shunick. In her case, it was not an accident. She was targeted while riding her bicycle. But, she was hit while on the bike, put into a truck, and taken to another location where she was killed and yet another location where her killer intended to bury her.

Sad case. Tried to bury her in a cemetery.
She fought so hard too.
Shunick tried to use her cellphone to call for help but Lavergne, who had a knife and a semiautomatic handgun in his vehicle, threatened to stab her if she continued. Shunick sprayed mace in Lavergne's face and managed to wrestle the knife from Lavergne and stab him several times before he grabbed the knife from her.

Lavergne stabbed Shunick at least four times before she collapsed. He then drove 30 to 40 minutes to an isolated sugar cane field in north Acadia Parish.

"The Defendant believed that Mickey was dead from the stab wounds he had inflicted upon her. The Defendant drove deep into the sugar cane field and brought the Z71 to a stop, intending to drag Mickey's body into the field," the court documents said.

Shunick suddenly jumped up and stabbed Lavergne in the chest after re-arming herself with the knife. Lavergne then pulled his semiautomatic weapon and shot Shunick in the head. She died instantly.

With fresh wounds, Lavergne drove back to his home in Swords while Shunick's body slumped in the passenger seat. He destroyed his clothing, attempted to clean out his truck and got rid of the empty bullet casing. He then drove to an old cemetery in Evangeline Parish and, unable to dig a grave because of his injuries, covered Shunick under tree branches and debris.

MSM is mainstream media, like CNN, FOX, MSNBC, etc. Don't feel too bad, I was on here for a full year and couldn't understand why people would moo at the end of their posts, so I did it too. I thought it was like saying 10-4 on a cb radio, so I mooed like a cow at the end of every post. Then one day I asked why people mooed at the end their posts. Let's just say there was a flurry of acronyms: LOL, ROFL, and ROFLPIMP. I waited another year before asking what those meant.

So funny!! MOO

Seriously, now when I see LE mentioned anywhere else online I immediately think that's a WS'er posting. Is this the first site to use that?

maybe i'm mis-reading what you've posted, but i grew up in an area like this and was a runner so maybe this will be helpful for people who don't run:
mollie is 20 and runs several times per week. we've all seen her and she appears in pretty good shape; a very typical running schedule for someone like her who wants to run in the evening several times each week, who isn't training for races, would be something like half an hour per run, or around 3 or 4 miles. it's been mentioned somewhere that she has 3 or 4 regular routes that are probably slightly different so she can do a couple of hills or one of them is her weekly long run of maybe 6 miles, but also just to break up the monotony of running the same route through farmland or this tiny town every day. i will also bet that she starts her run and does 1 loop back home rather than running a couple of laps past home for that same reason: it's boring to run along with nothing but fields beside you (running outside in really boring surroundings is literally more tiring in my experience) and she wouldn't choose to pass the same point more than once.
at a typical workout pace, mollie would be running 7 minute miles; a hard pace would be approximately 5 minute miles. this witness is 9/10 of a mile from where she starts/finishes her run, according to a post above. if she's the type of runner who wants to finish her runs strong (something that's always coached so that runners don't get lazy at the end of a workout), she could be aiming to do her last mile in 5 minutes.
so this witness 9/10 of a mile from her start/end point likely saw her within 5-10 minutes of the beginning/end of her run. if he saw her running home at 8pm, she could have been in her driveway as early as 8:05pm.
of course, that doesn't include any cool-down period, which could be when the other witness reported seeing her walking and using her phone. if you run properly, you'd do your half hour workout, then walk/jog for maybe 10 or 15 minutes to cool down before going inside.

This is why I don’t think Molly would have jumped in with a friend or acquaintance for a ride. I don’t think she would want to give up on her run, even of her best friend pulled up. She was running to run. She’d want to finish it out.

I placed pins on the locations where Mollie was allegedly seen while on her jog as well as her starting point (JD's home) and destination (Mom's home for dinner). Not sure of the accuracy of the witness sightings or if I have all of them, but if they're all true, then Mollie would have been all over town on her jog and may have gone past Casey's.

Possible Eye Witness Sightings of MT - Google My Maps

Though no one knows what happened to Mollie, I keep thinking of the Jacob Wetterling case. The perp in that case saw Jacob, his brother and friend and went ahead of them on their route, hid and stepped out with a gun. He saw them as they went to the store to grab a video. It was a crime of opportunity and I feel like this is what happened with Mollie. Going near the gas station would increase the likelihood someone from out of the area would have spotted her imho.

Of course, all of this is speculation.
Thank you for this map. I am pages and pages behind, but it is a very good visual. It makes me think she made it to the area of the high school (if she was headed to her mom's, which is my assumption). I would think the high school would have cameras.

What does an MSM mean? Is there a thread containing websleuth lingo? I’m a rather young 20-something and I’m a part of many forums but I keep wracking my brains seeing all of the initials on the site. I even have tried googling some of these initials and acronyms. I’ve been able to gather that LE and PC mean “law enforcement” and “press conference” and NOT someone’s first & last name, at least.

I wonder if they will drain/search the manure tank? Or if there is one? I live in a neighboring state and have family members with hog farms. Newer environmental regulations mandated they install underground septic tank type things to put manure in, and then a guy has to come pump it all out routinely (similar to how a port-a-potty works). Not to be graphic, but tooth/bone fragments could maybe be found.
I don't think I would want the "finder" job...ick!

I can remember press conferences that were rescheduled because expected lab results weren't back on time.

O/T Who are you and what have you done with the real carbuff who had the priceless signature line that was near and dear to all of us?

The only person to assert that he was the "last person" to see her alive was this witness, right? I would trust the 8:00 pm audio (maybe some journalist inadvertently adjusted for Eastern Time). If she went west on 2nd and north on Jackson (edited to correct) then all of the witnesses would seem accurate. We just don't know the real timeline or order. If she was heading north on Jackson (oops, not Des Moines) she could have been heading back to her BF's or her mom's at that point. That seems to be when the trail went cold.

This also takes her passed the Casey's General Store which would explain why the FBI wanted that video footage so badly.

MOO.

Mom said 45 minutes run - can a runner take a look at what we have so far and offer any insight where you'd run if you were Mollie? IF she started at 7:30 and was spotted at 8 she had fifteen minutes -

This case reminds me of the Holly Bobo case in its handling of information. For some three months we never got any factual information. Come to find out the persons who took Holly were well known in town (drugs) and I think people were afraid to come out with information.

Perhaps LE is just waiting until they have some definitive answers instead of having a PC with "we are looking at every angle, but nothing yet" I mean how many times do we want to keep hearing this . Press conferences should be to update the public with some new facts.
Lets hope LE is progressing slowly but very carefully, as they do not want to jeopardize making a clean arrest. Nothing worse then missing a technicality and having an arrest not stick.

I hope they have someone in their sites and are just keeping an eye on them until they get enough evidence to make an arrest. Sometimes that can take months their case is much stronger if it is not just circumstantial but evidence based They may even know who their suspect is with all the information pointing to one person. Will not help them unless they have cause for an arrest---all they can do is wait until the suspect slips up or commit some other crime.

They may even know who has her but do not want to spook him into killing her. Got to give LE a lot of leigh way they know what needs to be done in this case....and only they know what they can and cannot do. Lets just hope Mollie is still alive.

What if someone is feeding tips, clues, bits and pieces directly to the family/loved ones and have instructed them not to involve LE or Molly will pay for it. But information IS being checked out and tracked. I almost can't imagine someone not something like this in a case with so much publicity (not saying they have her or don't). Maybe they go so far as to think they can get a look alike and do a hand off with some sort of stipulation that part of the money be in cash at the hand off and the rest when they see "Molly" is ok. Not that this would work but just from this thread, I see imaginations go wild and all over the place.

Consider the risks of holding off: 1. The suspect runs away; 2.) The suspect hurts someone else; 3.) The suspect suicides; 4.) The subject somehow destroys evidence

The longer LE waits the worse things get. Not to mention LE is not only enforcement but they have a duty to protect the public too.

Hi Stormy
Some do slip through, although LE will usually put a surveillance on them until they can find something.

Being a photographer I have looked up the rules regarding taking photographs a few years ago. From what I have read you are able to take photos of whatever you want from public areas. You can even take photos of a private residence as long as YOU are on public land. The private resident can ask you to stop and that is still up to you. Law enforcement can ask you to stop, but it is still within your rights to take the photos. That's why law enforcement set up barricades on roads or cover crash scenes with tarps or blankets. If you are in a business the owner can tell you to stop and you should stop out of respect. If you don't stop they can call law enforcement.

You can take photos of anything you want as long as your don't trespass to take them. The restriction lies in what you do with them.

It has all the elements of the Holly Bobo case. Even the family was asked not to say anything for fear of spooking the druggies!

It was very frustrating but paid off in the end. We have no clue who LE is leaning on.

Yes. They are "listening".

LOL! Like a kidnapping? Who says that would not work?

That's an accusation.
Ahhh -- knowledge of a crime? Edited to clarify my response was NOT specific to Mollie but generic to question.

Do more veteran members have any knowledge of cases where LE held off arresting a POI hoping they would lead them to the remains of the missing person? I only ask because I speculate that once a person is charged with homicide that they must give them a public defender who will immediately tell their client to stop talking, and with no body it's very hard to get a conviction.. just my random musings as we sit here wishing we knew where Molly was.

Off the top of my head the Laci Peterson case. It took months before he was arrested.

Hi Stormy

If there is a POI or someone they are close to arresting, I wouldn't worry about them running. Chances are extremely high if LE is that close, that person is under heavy surveillance so if they try to run for it, they won't get far. The two reasons the PC would be rescheduled are:

1) - Close to a breakthrough and awaiting results of some type of genetic or other testing/validation
2) - Case has gone completely cold - although this one is far less likely imo because if this were the case they'd more likely outright cancel it

Unfortunately, this sequence of events doesn't really support the narrative that MT is alive and being held :(.
