The reward money is probably filled with Catch 22s that would be of no use to folks that may only know a portion or have a hunch on minor details.

So they should probably state how much a person would get if they only have a minor piece of the puzzle. This could help some people come clean quicker about the little information they do know about a suspect. Jmo

The biggest catch 22 being that it is only for the safe return of Mollie. Sadly, I doubt anyone will be cashing in on even a portion of that. MOO.

Someone tried to get me in their car when I was very young. My mother thanked God for many, many years that the man tried to lure me with hard candy instead of chocolate. Otherwise, she had no doubt I would have gotten into his car.
Same here. Candy. Taught to be polite to the bitter end, I said "No thank you" and kept walking. I'm glad you're still here. Lots of posts & exp. like ours here on WS the past few days.

To me, the Fitbit is the biggest clue of all. We will see.

Questions.

1) Do we know the model of her Fitbit... I think her iPhone is nailed down, and the Fitbit might have been linked to it, and why she took both when running.

2) For those of you who use a Fitbit, is there a website where you can retrieve the data?

3) Can you share your running data with friends while using the Fitbit?

1. Alta

2. Yes, on a PC and I believe LE has already covered this during week 2. It just shows wake/sleep patterns and distance/steps per day.

3. Yes .. you can invite freinds to compete with you for distance... I don’t know if they can see your route/gps though.

Also, fitbit tracks steps from wrist movement, not foot/step movement like a pedometer would. So if I’m sitting and writing a paper, it will count it as steps taken.

Hey all, I got in and out of Brooklyn without incident (as expected). Ran into Mollie’s dad giving an interview at Casey’s, that was surreal... full report when we get home, enjoying some Dairey Queen first!

Young people meet as many people online now as in real life, probably. Not like the “old” days when one needed an introduction from a common acquaintance to meet a young woman...so her SM is important and maybe slueths will follow links (I can’t do this stuff) long enough to unearth creeps that LE missed, who knows...it surprises me what people on WS can find out about people.

And can also be very useful in solving a crime
Carbuff, you remind me of a guy I knew who'd nod his head while saying no and shake his head side to side and say yes. :)
Yes, and I am STILL waiting for an answer..
Monday or not? That's all I want to know.

Has it ever been verified if DJ was at MT's dad's wedding? Who might have viewed her as "alone"? Became obsessed and followed her on SM, resentful that such a lovely girl didn't have her BF with her?

You covet what you see.

Regardless of how this turns out, I can see RT taking a John Walsh-like role and being an amazing advocate for victims families.

He has come across in every media appearance as intelligent, thoughtful and well spoken. I can see why MT referred to him as her hero. The strength he’s shown through this ordeal is nothing short of amazing.

I’ve heard conflicting things about how LC is in real life (not posting them here - it’s irrelevant & may violate TOS) but everything I’ve ever read about RT is he’s a stand up guy.

I think either is possible because we just can't see into this enough with the limited information we have.

But the 'Let's go for a ride' doesn't work for me because I don't see her completing her day and planning for work the next day, and fitting a 'ride' into all that at the end. And if it happened on her jog, I don't think it makes sense because why would she change her focus and stop that activity to hop in a car with someone. Certainly if it happened on her way to her mother's house, it makes no sense. If it was a meeting somewhere, I would think someone might have seen them, or if the meeting was a lure, what was an acquaintance driver going to do to contain her when it became clear to her they weren't going to burger hut or whatever. I suppose the person could have had a weapon, but that eliminates the 'something went south' scenario and enters the planned abduction realm. Where is this person and why has no one noticed strange behavior or other signs of change or stress? And why has LE focused on WC since Mollie did not know him?

I also don't think she'd take off for a meeting/get together, sweaty and in her running clothing, still wearing a FitBit. So I think she was likely grabbed in an opportunistic moment and it could have been someone relatively familiar, be it someone who either had been watching her, or recognized her when seeing her that evening and she was the chosen victim. Or, a stranger got her.

The latter makes sense to me because of so many cases where female joggers left for a routine run and were soon dead. The Karina Vetrano and Vanessa Marcotte murders are chilling examples, and even in the Jessica Ridgeway murder, the perpetrator tried to victimize an adult female jogger first. They were all literally ambushed. One was able to get away because the perpetrator was too surprised and unprepared to fight with his victim and he could't subdue her. Since we don't know where Mollie was, if she was on an outskirt as someone suggested, it was a grab and go, with perhaps knocking her down first, as in the Shunick case. I've read at least three cases where women were grabbed while talking on their phones. And Kelsey Smith was taken in a Target parking lot when she walked out and was followed to her vehicle.

There are people who simply prey on others and they do bold things that we can't imagine. Their victims are strangers to them who were just going about their business. But like I said, either is plausible since there are movements by Mollie we simply can't see.

People don’t take off their Fitbits. They wear them at all times. Minor detail, but thought I’d mention it...

If it is worn on the wrist, but if you have a zip and its in your pocket, then it won't track unless you walk. My zip will track more accurately than the wrist because I can carry a package at work and the arm fitbit not count since arm is not moving but zip in the pocket will.

I'm curious if one of the mods would be kind enough to inbox me..?

I don’t see her being followed from CA to smalltown Iowa. If anything, such a person would be more likely to wait a month or so, she would be back in a city. But I think if she was taken, it was a local who most people know, or know of.

I still think it could've been someone she knew and trusted. Possibly an older authority figure with perhaps a wife/kids that tried to woo her and got in over his head. If so, he would have likely been in a position to know that her boyfriend was out of town, and may have even convinced her to "hang out" after the run.

JMO.
The only reason I would tend to think it's someone younger is the technology end of it. I'm in my 50s and I had no clue that Fitbits have GPS capability until this case, and if I was a perpetrator, I'd probably assume MT's Fitbit was a watch. Not saying that older people aren't more hip than I am, but there are many who are not knowledgeable about newer tech gadgets that are marketed to a younger generation.

Thank you, Marie.

With the Alta Fitbit, there is a fairly long battery life, from what I read here. Fitbit Alta™ Fitness Wristband

Pairing with the Bluetooth feature of an iPhone info here in an instruction manual. https://images-eu.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/A1c9fLbmalS.pdf

There seem to be a lot of problems with newer iPhones pairing well with the Alta, though.

So, I guess I wonder next about iPhone apps that work with the Fitbit Alta, and how that information can be accessed.

What are your thoughts on a “friendly ride?” Hypothetically, her walking to mom’s for brats (post run) and someone she’s seen before, offering her a ride? “It’s getting dark outside” type of thing.
