if you change the time zone on a cell phone and instead of showing 10 pm it showed say 7pm. Would a cell ping at 10pm instead of 7 PM >

The phone's date/time would not match that of local cell sites.

Carried over:

Not so fast on the issue of the clothing and LE. Otto said, "The bottom line is that if there was CCTV of Mollie at some point during her run, police would be able to say what she was wearing. They can't. Also, if there was footage, it's very likely that it would be posted if only to give the public a better idea of what Mollie looked like that day".

IMO for some reason the confusion on the clothing being worn by MT furthers some aim of LE as it is an issue that has been present from almost the first day of this case (we have seen at least 4 different descriptions of the various outfits that MT could have been wearing when she disappeared that I can think of and even so called eyewitnesses vary on description of what she was wearing). Perhaps the reason for not releasing CCTV or a more precise picture to the public is to weed out witnesses? I don't know. But it is quite presumptous IMO to draw the conclusion that LE are not able at this time to say what MT was wearing based on the limited information available to the public as of today. I think its a safer assumption at this point 3 weeks into the search to say that LE "won't" release a picture rather than "can't". Or maybe what she was wearing is for whatever reason not deemed important to the investigation? Maybe LE doesn't think its relevant for the public to know what MT looked like that day because she could be wandering around in a dress, cowboy boots and with short blond hair to take an exteme change in her look? Who knows? With the number of people working on this case I would be very surprised if they didn't know each piece of clothing that MT was wearing down the laces on her running shoes and the color of the hairband she might have used to pull back her hair. They most likely don't know what she looks like now or what she is wearing. But maybe they do? We don't know any of this information. LE has seen no reason to share any of this information with the public. I don't know why the case is being managed the way it is or why the public isn't really part of this investigation but there must be some reason.

I would suggest that based on the CCTV in Brooklyn that LE does knows what MT was wearing and for whatever reason don't believe that its in the interest of the investigation to disclose this to the public. LE has been very consistent in not releasing much in the way of substantive information to the public and I think its a good bet that 3 weeks in they are drowning in video footage and data from the digital footprint (about which we have learned NOTHING). So, I don't think there is any priority in the investigation to give the public a better idea of what MT look like that day. LE hasn't wanted the involvement of the public in anything except very specific pieces of the puzzle.
Maybe LE thinks they've talked to the perp already and whoever had her clothing description right would get a more serious look.

Thanks, I didn't know that. I don't know which model Mollie had but that would be another bit of data to add to the phones own GPS and cell tower pings.

Just surprised the Fitbit is mentioned so much when her phone will be even more crucial and a treasure trove of info. The Fitbit is just a welcome added bonus for LE.

I believe Mollie had the Alta or Alta HR.

Phones do not typically transmit GPS data. That is why the fitbit data is so crucial.

do we know as a fact what model she has or was that decided from a pic? I have in large part just seen the fitbit talk but not really been able to absorb a whole lot of it. if from a pic that someone decided what model she could have upgraded after pic?

We've narrowed it down to one of a few models from the photo. None of those have GPS. The only Fitbits that have built-in GPS are ones that look like smartwatches.

I went looking for any kind of community events that happen on wed. I couldn't find anything other than the Ruritan Club, but it meets on the last wed. of every month so that doesn't work. But what about women's group meetings in the area? Let's say maybe it wed because someone's wife was out of the house between the hours of let's say 7 and 10pm?

Another consideration: in the small town where I live, many people choose to live in the country because of the low cost of living but they often commute 40-60 minutes to work in a nearby city. Who might have gotten off work at 5 or 5:30 and was therefor just arriving back in town around 6:30?

Idk, I watched a lot of footage of Hannah Graham all over Charlottesville, that LE had released. They were asking for the public to come forward if they had seen Hannah in any of the spots where she was seen on CCTV.
I do tend to agree that if they had footage of Mollie, they would have released it.
I think it could show more than they want to show publicly. like someone with her. they had to get a order to get it, someone or business gave it to them under the conditions it not be shown publicly. showing it opens where it was from up to everyone knowing their blind spots.

Maybe the predicted rain played a factor? Wash away evidence.

Just looking over my amateur profile again, and just developing out a hunch.
I was thinking about Mollie's circle of friends, and her boyfriends friends. They have most likely grown up together and hung out for many years.

I think the Perp is one of this circle, or the extended circle as I have said upthread. The window of opportunity was very narrow. They *knew* the boyfriend was out of town, and they *knew* her schedule. Narrow window.

I also think it's likely the Perp has seen this thread. You goog her name and the WS thread pops up. This is going to be one of the gang - Brian, Alan, Jeffrey, just one of the guys.
And I think the Perp has a friend who strongly suspects him but is pushing it to the back of his mind because it's just too horrible to think about. But the thought keeps coming forward; especially at night.

And this friend knows it's just a matter of time before this happens again, and he doesn't know what to do. He is scared. Spitless.

If you are that person reading this thread and this post, you know what you have to do. There is no choice here. You simply can't have this hanging over your head. You must do the right thing, even if it's just a "gut feeling". Let law enforcement sort it out. Do it now. Now.

God Bless all.
Amateur opinion and speculation. The names I chose were random and should not be construed as anything else.

so we don't exactly know model. she could have upgraded. that being said I have no idea of the cost of these things or what their useable life expectancy is.

Again I'm sure there are better experts here than me but I don't think it matters what time you set the 'local' device to as it wouldn't change the times of the cell towers?

I'm probably explaining this very badly, though!

The system date-time set at a cell location is not changed by nor adjusts to that of connecting phones. Signal logging timestamps are based on carrier network servers RTCs.

This may have already been said, but if we were to consider the dots on the Finding Mollie website as the movements of TWO people the map seems to make perfect sense. Mollie would be the dot at 385th, and a trucker or patron would be the dot at the TA truck stop. Those dots converge at or near the car wash downtown. The other two dots perhaps represent an "escape route", the last of which being where the Fitbit apparently registered last.

So, if this is the case, they may have a trucker in mind - or someone else that they know was at that truck stop - who was also seen on camera along the route they have laid out. They may be looking for corroborating eyewitnesses that actually saw an encounter, or just before or after it.

BBM...I tend to believe this as well, but there is the possibility that there is video footage of her somewhere along her route, but said footage also shows something, or someone else, that LE wishes to keep unknown to the masses for investigative reasons. Even in a small town, in this day and age, I doubt a person can venture any distance from their front door without being on camera somewhere. JMO

The threads keep growing and growing! Trying to catch up....

Just have to jump on here to say this- because no one I know in “real life” is following Mollie’s case like we are- but... every young girl jogger I see ... and young woman at Target shopping for back-to-college stuff... I think of Mollie Tibbetts.

I hope this sweet girl is found soon... ugh.

The other explanation I have repeatedly seen is kids clam up when a friend accidentally dies, to protect their own liability.

For example: Kids go out on a 4 wheeler, the person driving is drunk, Mollie get killed. Mollie has too much to drink, gets alcohol poisoning or ODs and dies. No reason to think Mollie is irresponsible or a partier, just throwing out that there may be someone reading who didn’t mean for Mollie to die.

If you’re a true friend, in that situation, you will speak up and give the family closure. At least send in an anonymous tip.

I wonder if someone stopped in there to shower to rid themselves of trace evidence.

You know, Wednesday night is a strange night for someone to do something like this. It's in the middle of the week, people who work typically have a job to go to the next day. And Brooklyn would be a real hit or miss in terms of finding someone to abduct, I'm sure it's not full of people out running, especially in the summer. So what would drive someone to go to Brooklyn? And how would they know Wednesday would be a good day? Why Wednesday?
A myriad of possibilities...someone stopped at the truck stop while driving (to eat, to use the ATM) and then on a whim, decided to check out the town; someone wanted to drop a payment at the electric co-op (bill due); someone knew Mollie and that she was alone (not really thinking about seeing her jogging, but going to the house); needed to go to Casey's or Napa or town bar...etc All jmo obviously.

True, but the way the dots are drawn the truck stop seems more like a starting point than an ending one. Interesting nonetheless.

Their electric bill was due?

Phones do not typically transmit GPS data. That is why the fitbit data is so crucial.

Most, if not all mobile phones (smartphones) manufactured (from 2004 forward) today include GPS circuitry. The FCC planned to require all smartphones to include GPS by next year but that requirement is changed to that all smartphones must improve their location accuracy to be within 50 feet (since GPS is not the only technology available to ascertain location).

Phones (OS) typically provide an option to enable or disable GPS. Some apps require GPS to be enabled, some do not.

Only one or two models of Fitbit include GPS circuitry. The Fitbit model MT uses (we assume via what is seen in photos) does not include GPS circuitry. It is impossible to ascertain location of a Fitbit via Fitbit data alone; location data must come from the Bluetooth-connected smartphone with enabled and active GPS circuitry.
