I can set the time on my iPhone manually just by disabling "set time" automatically.

That is just a local time on the phone. The cell network basically ignores this.

A myriad of possibilities...someone stopped at the truck stop while driving (to eat, to use the ATM) and then on a whim, decided to check out the town; someone wanted to drop a payment at the electric co-op (bill due); someone knew Mollie and that she was alone (not really thinking about seeing her jogging, but going to the house); needed to go to Casey's or Napa or town bar...etc All jmo obviously.
I wonder if they would have interviewed anyone who may have dropped their payment off that night.

I would say they could've seen the vehicle in question on camera downtown going in the opposite direction and traced it back to the truck stop. Or, the vehicle itself could've been a truck and they looked at the obvious places.

JMO.

Yep. Cameras occurred to me too.

Also, what if they looked at al the people Mollie interacted with online or via text and tried to trace their whereabouts. Maybe they are asking the public to report anything they observed in an area where 1 of Mollie’s acquaintances had been that night.

I doubt they have a vehicle, but I think they have a very good idea about Mollie's route from 7:30, at the beginning of the run, until 9-10PM. Hopefully, local tips will provide the answers they need about who was at those places that night.

The only sticking point I have with LE only having her route is that they would likely not have been so definitive about including the truckstop as a point on the map if they didn't have a pretty good idea that a vehicle came from there. And if they knew the vehicle came from there then they also would've had to have seen the vehicle.

JMO.

But the cell towers your phone is communicating with have the correct time

I agree with you. I think LE believes he may have stopped here prior to exiting towards Brooklyn at the beginning of the time frame they provided.

Maybe he stopped at 5 to get gas and a meal, at 6:30 a car wash, at 7 a cruise through Brooklyn, at 7:45 grabs Mollie?

Has there ever been a perp that no one has ever thought was off a bit?

I guess no one thought BTK was off. And John Wayne Gacy.

So I suppose it is possible no one thinks this perp is not quite all right.

I cannot imagine that there is nothing about someone like this that does not give off a signal about something not quite right

I agree. LE knows something about that truck stop. The locations they provided were specific.

I actually see this as a second possibility behind stranger abduction.
Me too. I go back and forth between some sort of accident or some type of acquaintance abduction...

Are there any cases we know of where there was a missing child or woman and it turned out to be an accident? I've seen it brought up before but I can't think of a case where this turned out to be true.

Apologies if this has been posted...

Rob Tibbetts goes home, Mollie's family "returning to day-to-day lives"

Very reluctantly, I'm being told I sort of need to do this," said Rob Tibbetts. "We've called this sort of a half-time, a break."

Mollie Tibbetts' father told TV9 it's hard heading back to his home in California. That's as officials still lack the key piece of evidence that might unlock the secret to the 20-year-old's disappearance.

Rob Tibbetts told TV9, he feels ambivalent but it wasn't really his choice and probably for the best. He said law enforcement has been encouraging the Tibbetts to all return to their day-to-day lives and leave them in charge of the case.

Rob Tibbetts said he moved his sons into their college this week and she was on their minds. That's because they passed by where Mollie was going to move in. As bittersweet as the thoughts were, he's still confident they're going to bring her back home and she'll pick up from where she left off.

So you are going on the assumption that it was someone coming into town and not a local. And how would LE know the perp and have him tracked there? The highly percentage possibility is that the truck stop was a stop after the perp and mollie had contact. If LE has a way to know that the perp started at the truck stop before they even met mollie, I think they would be further along on catching the perp.

I'm still going on the theory of Mollie's friends meeting her on the run, them going back to the house to hang out for awhile then heading to Grinnell for a quick bite. And never made it to Grinnell, then the kid had to drive around the area looking for a way to solve the body issue.

You bet. During the last press release, police said that they do not believe it is someone in the community, but someone who is familiar with the community.

The abductor did not stop at the truck stop with Mollie alive and able. If the truck stop happened after the abduction, he would have been there at 5 in the morning.

Given your theory about meeting friends and hanging out, what order or significance would you give the map dots - how would you arrange the numbers? I'll map it.

interesting. i wonder if your phone ping at the time you set, which would be reported your time or the actual time. im getting the actual time from a ping and not the incorrect time you could enter into your cell phone.

  • #114
so tell me if you can please. in order for her phone to ping. she had to be using it yes, then if she turned it off and went on her way back to the house the phone would not had pinged anymore because she stopped using it. Is that correct.

a cell phone is turned on and just is there turned on waiting for someone to call it still pings. if you want to use it you don't go oh let me turn my phone on, you just pick it up and dial the number you want then when you hang up phone is still turned on but just sitting there waiting to be used. might be in a persons hand, pocket, armband, purse...still turned on and still pinging.

I think this is what you wanted to know?

Yeah, a trucker would've likely gotten on the interstate rather than continued south. Unless it is a local route driver, like a farm/grain truck or something.

In any case, it seems like they have a handle on what probably occurred. Heck, they may even know precisely which vehicle and who was driving it. But without a witness corroborating that something suspicious occurred with the vehicle in question (slow moving, circling around, etc.) then a warrant is unlikely. So that may be all they are looking for in order for this case to blow wide open.

JMO.
What about footage of somebody waiting near the car wash, watching for her to run by, then following her home or looping around to come directly at her? Just a thought.

would you be kind enough to elaborate al little more please

///snipped by me///

If the time zone and date-time setting on a smartphone are altered from the actual time zone and current date-time it obviously would be different than the assumed-correct settings of the cell site system... but that would not alter the time zone and date-time timestamps of the carrier network log entries for that phone.

I would like truck stop 1 and car wash 2 - as perp wheteabouts pre-abduction. Then house ad the abduction site, then on to 4, then 5.

That's what this should reflect:
  1. truck stop
  2. car wash
  3. hwy 385 (near Mollie's house-sit) and W. Pershing Dr
  4. 385 ave East out of the city
  5. Guernsey area

Could be. Personally, I think the area on 2nd st just east of the car wash is the site of the abduction, but that's obviously just speculation. I think we both have a similar take on this. I really hope SharonNeedles can film that route you were asking about.

I happen to be watching a Paula Zahn show about Cora Jones, a 12-year-old who was kidnapped, raped and murdered in 1994. When they caught the perp, he apparently had a huge range of ages among his victims.

We’ve discussed that either on this thread or the Lyric and Lizzie thread. Just thought it was interesting.

yes, thank you. but why did hers stop pinging then. is it because the battery may have died. on her way back to the house perhaps
