I think he definitely knew killing was wrong and just chose to do it anyway.
I don't think he considers killing a woman to be wrong, just illegal. We know he had no respect for laws, even the law against murder.

For some states it goes by age, for example in PA they will accept an out of state ID if you are over the age of 30. In most states they'll allow the use of a passport if you are visibly under the age of 25-30 as well.

https://www.lcb.pa.gov/Legal/Documents/000812.pdf
Nothing in the Liquor Code or the PLCB’s Regulations requires patrons to possess valid identification while on licensed premises. However, section 493 of the Liquor Code states that licensees are strictly liable for service to minors, including minors who may be on licensed premises with a parent, legal guardian, or under proper supervision. 47 P.S. § 4- 493(1).

Although carding is generally not required, there is nothing in the Liquor Code or the PLCB’s Regulations which prohibits a licensee from instituting certain house rules of carding persons as long as those rules are not based upon illegally discriminatory reasons, such as race, gender, or religion.

There are two exceptions to the general rule above. A wine expanded permit holder must use a transaction scan device to verity the age of anyone who appears to be under thirty-five years old. 47 P.S. § 4-415(a)(8),(9).

Please don't feel like your opinions are not welcomed. Since we only have the facts LE has handed to us, we're ALL just guessing. I'm not ready to settle on any one scenario and shoot down everyone else who doesn't see it the same way. In fact, there's a lot to be learned from each other.

People's theories here come from personal experiences and beliefs, educated backgrounds, research, and gut feelings. I don't recall a single one of us, prior to MT's body being found, stating, "JMO It's an illegal immigrant who works on a dairy farm (MOO) with an anger problem that causes him to 'block' his 'memories' and drive 15 miles south and she'll be found covered in corn leaves."

I second that! Confusion’s theory is just as likely as any other. Nobody should have to apologize for thinking about alternate possibilities.

And prior to CRs arrest, your point is right on. Given very limited information, the early threads were rife with all sorts of different theories.

Déjà vu.

He wasn't brought here. He came here because he wanted to
You are correct. Poor choice of words on my part. . He came here on his own at the age of 16. I was responding more on the basis that he was a minor when he arrived and apparently had an uncle to seek out.

So, there are more sexual preditors in that sparsely populated area? Has there been any more assaults since the monster was caught?
These are not in the Brooklyn area. Much of Iowa is not at all what you’d call “sparsely populated.” We have crime here just like anywhere.

I totally agree with @Confusion. The most terrifying aspect of this case for me is that CR by all accounts seems to be a pretty good person. He's described as a caring and responsible father, a hard working and dependable employee, somebody with no criminal record - nobody really has anything bad to say about him. We all came here looking for a monster and I'm sorry if that's what you think you see, but everything about his life in Iowa is turning out to be pretty normal and unremarkable.

Obviously that changed very quickly and my heart breaks for Mollie and her family. And as a parent raising teenage girls in the area, this is truly the nightmare scenario for me. It was easier to think whoever did this to Mollie was some kind of creep, the kind of person we should know to stay away from. It's a lot harder to accept this could be... anybody. Never let your guard down, if this can happen here it can happen anywhere.

Of course it can happen anywhere but I don't agree that it is "normal" for someone to be driving without a driver's license. If they have no license, they have no insurance and that is a danger to other motorists no matter how large a city you live in. Sarah Root's killer had no license and was drunk. He got bail and is still on the lam. I applaud the State of Iowa for pulling out all the stops in solving Mollie's murder. CR could have easily fled just as Sarah Root's killer fled. I think five weeks after Mollie's murder, CR was feeling pretty "safe."

I have no reason to believe they're related... My gut tells me they're not.

I can't help wondering. The daylight abduction and getting by with it for 5 weeks, the taking the body several miles away for disposal all suggest he's done something similar before. He was helped by the weather, of course.

Apparently, those SAs are unsolved? It is interesting to me that they are outside the county where he lives, but are the surrounding counties. I don't know, he seems too practiced to be a newcomer to this. Then, there is that brown car we know nothing about.

I can't help wondering what he's really all about.

And you can buy a passable SET of fake ID: DL or State ID card, matching SSN card and Birth Certificate. Certainly enough to get a job and to get married. It's a business that ICE is working on busting, along with Homeland Security.

My state has been implanting chips in our driver's licenses so that they can't be forged. They are also cracking down hard on those who marry Americans for no other reason than to obtain a Green Card and ultimate citizenship.

I still think his fake document have him older too, we don’t know were he was before except for his dad and uncle saying he has always been in Iowa because he had family there, his uncle works at the same dairy.

State – Iowa requires work permits for 14 and 15 year olds and recommends Certificates of Age for teens who are 16 and 17.

Federal – Work permits and Certificates of Age are not required, but are recommended from the state.

Minors who are 12 to 16 years performing migrant labor need a work permit. With a migrant labor work permit they may work:
– Between 5 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. from Labor Day through June 1
– Between 5 a.m. and 9 p.m. the remainder of the year

My grandma never drove. She never learned. My grandpa tried to teach her once, but she was afraid of getting caught or causing an accident. She got the state ID. I don't think it is very common for people to only have a state ID, especially if they live outside of very large cities with excellent public transportation. They look just like regular drivers licenses, except they'll say "Identification Card" instead of "Operator License" at the top of them.
True. My brother is disabled and can never drive. He has a state -issued ID which he needs in order to fly, for example.

Since he's undocumented we have no idea of any past criminal behavior. I wouldn't be surprised at all to find he did similar crimes in Mexico.

A terrible choice is deciding to drive down a icy road with poor tires and accidently killing someone. This was cold blooded murder.
and it is a terrible choice to murder someone in cold blood. there is nothing about the words "terrible choice" that implies triviality.

Wasn't Mollie's body found in another county? Another LE jurisdiction sounds like a well-thought plan to me.

The monster didn't live in the town of Brooklyn, he lived in the rural area. He also had access to a car. He is a sexual preditor. That puts him in the running. I haven't heard of any more assaults since the monster was caged.

According to the dairy farmers, he was know by his fake name, they didn’t recognize the name LE gave until they saw his picture

Whether or not that was the case when he was with his co-workers is another story, I think they all tend to use fake names if working here illegally

I believe the reasons behind and tragic results of (CR, a fake ID and fear of getting caught) are important elements in this case.

I do too

Can you show me where I said it was a legal defense?

Oh no, the add on to my comment was not in direct reply to your post whatsoever. It was just an added thought.

IMO, this is victim blaming.

Linn County has a lot of crime, I don’t feel Cedar Rapids is very safe at all. Same for Blackhawk County. Tama isn’t as bad, but they’ve got their fair share of crime. None of those incidents resulted in murder, there’s suspect descriptions (not Hispanic), and some of the “reports” weren’t even police reports but facebooks posts that went viral.

CR doesn’t seem practiced at all to me. I really doubt that he’s got any prior SA history.

I suppose the same could be said for anyone who breaks the law, regardless of their residency status.
