Complaint says Dubuque school principal placed camera in boys restroom, downloaded child

"IOWA CITY, Iowa — The principal of an Iowa elementary school admitted that he downloaded child over the course of several months and hid a video camera in the school to get images of young boys using the bathroom..."

Robert Burke, 43, the principal at Sageville Elementary School just north of Dubuque, was charged with one count of receiving child . A criminal complaint says an FBI agent downloaded eight images child of in April from a computer with an IP address that was traced to Burke’s residence in Dubuque...."

Former Sageville Elementary School Principal Robert Burke, 43, is accused of downloading child and investigators also found evidence that he videotaped students in the boy’s restroom at the school. He was charged last Friday...."

"....Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Tremmel said he wanted to make the court aware because of the trial date that the government’s investigation is continuing and because the videotaping information just came to light last week it was possible that the government would seek additional charges...."

"The former Sageville Elementary School principal who faces child charges intends to plead guilty Monday in U.S district court. Robert Burke, who had previously pleaded not guilty to all charges leveled against him, filed on Friday an intent to plead guilty to recording sexual videos of minors under the age of 18 – one of seven charges he faces. The six related counts, which included possessing, receiving and distributing the would be dropped..."

Not funny at all, IMO, and I could not care less about his lovely singing voice. I surely hope that investigators went back and checked the boys' restrooms at the former Catholic school where he taught.

A former Iowa elementary school principal has been sentenced to 30 years in prison

I was relieved to read he was given the maximum sentence of 30 years! He claims to have never commited a physical act against a child. But, statistically speaking he most likely has...LE just didn't catch him. Jail time and shame are unlikely to rehabilitate him. But at least he is locked up for a long time and can not hurt more children! Research has shown those who exploit children like this are likely to seek out sexual relationships with children if they are not stopped in some way. Research has also found there is a strong correlation between those who seek out child and those who would be diagnosed as pedophiles. Studies suggest that most pedophiles are unable to control their strong sexual urges and that medical treatment, such as castration, provides the only effective means of changing pedophilic behavior.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims. I am so proud of the families who had the courage to attend and address the court at his sentencing!

This is just disgusting! I think people in authority over children should have higher standards and more pure morals than the average person. They should be good role models. This guy has let down the entire community besides harming the children and breaking the law. The children he filmed may have trust issues for years to come or even forever.
