Community holds onto hope as the search for Xavior Harrelson continues (kyoutv.com)

“Parents are worried, kids are worried. We haven’t found him. We can’t live our normal lives as much as we used to,” Spruce Village resident AC shared. Hundreds have been searching for the boy, but have come up with nothing. Community members say more searching should be done.

Mitch Mortvedt with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations says he feels the surrounding areas including Diamond Lake have all been well covered. “We feel that we covered it well. Again, not saying that we couldn’t miss something whether it’s on water or on ground. But, between the actual lake itself and the surrounding area. We feel that it was very thoroughly searched.”

After Two Weeks, No Xavior Harrelson, And Questions Begin To Mount - Oskaloosa News | Oskaloosa News (oskynews.org)
[...]

Summer vacation in a small town means neighborhoods normally come to life, but without knowing if there is a danger to others yet, the community is guarded.

“Well, the community is suffering, honestly. It’s never easy when anyone goes missing, says Montezuma Mayor Jacki Bolen. “Everyone is very concerned and honestly just scared for him.”

When it comes to being able to tell the community that she feels the community is still safe at this point, Bolen said, “I don’t know. I feel like that is something that would have to come from Sheriff Kriegel, the DCI. I guess not hearing that, that, you know, we need to be on the lookout, I guess one can assume that we’re safe. But, you know, assumptions aren’t always a good thing.

Search for 11-year-old Xavior Harrelson continues almost 3 weeks after he disappeared | who13.com
[...]

The DCI is a requested agency that often works in more rural parts of the state that typically don’t have the same resources as larger cities.

To find Xavior Harrelson, Mortvedt said the DCI has been hyper-focusing on the town of Montezuma where Xavior was last seen, then working outward to other rural areas. This has included holding search parties with up to 150 law enforcement officers and nearly 400 volunteers.

After covering the entire Poweshiek County, the DCI is now using digital media as a tool.

DCI has recently launched a new missing person website with Xavior Harrelson displayed on the homepage.

Mortvedt says within the last few years social media has been a game changer in helping law enforcement find missing children.

Weeks after Xavior's disappearance investigators only have a few clues (kcci.com)
Three weeks removed from 11-year-old Xavior Harrelson's disappearance, there are few indications about the state of the search or what clues investigators may have.

[...]

Neither Iowa's Division of Criminal Investigation nor the Poweshiek County Sheriff's Department has provided an update, something community members say they are anxious to hear.

"A lot of people, from what I've seen, are scared," said KK, Xavior's next-door neighbor. "You don't even see kids going around the trailer park like you used to."

[...]

Investigators say now what they've said from the beginning: they're not ruling anything out and Xavior's disappearance could be the result of a youthful accident or a criminal act.

DCI say they are doing a lot 'behind the scenes' in Xavior Harrelson's disappearance case (kcci.com)
[...]

Mitch Mortvedt, the assistant director of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, says agents are still working full time to find the missing boy.

"We are working on it every day and the public may not see that, the community may not see that, and since it is an ongoing investigation, there's a lot that we can't say at this point," Mortvedt said.

Mortvedt says they have combed through hours of video and interviewed hundreds of people.

"We've interviewed, literally, probably almost everybody in town, let alone, you know, friends of the family, extended family," Mortvedt said.

[...]

"It's been a little difficult on pinpointing an exact timeline of when Xavier was last seen, where he was seen at," Mortvedt said.

Mortvedt noted that Xavior's bicycle was left at the mobile home trailer where he lives with his mother. Neighbors call this "suspicious" since the boy was known to love his bike and ride it every day.

[...]

"We would hope that that reward would have some influence on somebody that knows something, because obviously, we feel confident that there is somebody out there that knows something," Mortvedt said.
