STANISLAUS COUNTY, Calif (FOX26) — On and off ramps of Interstate 5 were shut down after a shooting involving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents on Tuesday morning in Stanislaus County.

The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office says the incident did not involve local law enforcement.

The suspect, identified as Carlos Ivan Mendoza Hernandez, was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

An ICE spokesman said Hernandez is an 18th Street Gang member wanted in El Salvador in connection to a murder.

They say the suspect tried to run over an officer and they opened fire.
