I wonder if the NRA has anything to offer these families. Both incidents happened last week.

"Deputies: 3-year-old accidentally shoots grandfather in Davidson County: DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. —A 46-year-old man was shot Thursday after a gun that his 3-year-old grandson was holding accidentally fired, Davidson County deputies said."

Ah yes. We get to the heart of the matter. Another tragedy caused by the big bad NRA.

I'll be labeled 'insane' again but say this.
This is the same issue that came up in another thread.
Can we let the small, violent minority rule peaceful law-abiding majority. Should we really impose strict gun laws like the ones in Europe or Australia, because a few people commit terrible crimes with guns.

No no and no.

I believe free men and women should be able to own guns if they want to. Nor should Americans worry what liberals in Europe or Australia have to say about gun laws in America.
America in many ways is a unique country and I don't think they get it.

The NRA is NOT a charitable organization! Their purpose is to protect the rights of gun owners.
The members send money for that specific reason. If the NRA started giving the money away to every idiot that gets accidentally shot due to their own stupidity folks like me would NOT send them money any more!

If your kid shoots you with your own gun that is a personal problem, if the government tries to pass laws or illegally confiscates your gun then it is EVERY gun owners problem and time to call the NRA and ask for their legal assistance.

Of course they do!! Because criminals cannot be CCW permit holders. It may be a fact, but for me, it is a meaningless fact.

But you worry about law abiding citizens carrying legally purchased guns and holding CCW permits, and you call us paranoid.

GardenLady & I have said we wanted it, not that it would happen, nor that we have any power to make it happen. Noone is gonna take your guns away from you.

That's just not true unless you don't vote. You vote for people who share your views and they have, if elected, the power affect law.

Can you find a quote where I said that I was worried about that? You can't, can you?

I think this qualifies as close enough.

CoolJ
Maybe you have gone mentally ill, maybe you have since committed a felony, maybe you are now on a terrorist watch list, maybe you have since began hangin out with some shady characters etc.. And maybe it is not you who is buying the gun with your identification. I think it is a great idea for Big Brother to keep a tight rein on who is buying guns. I mean eventually you are going to get it ,right? What's the rush?

I probably could but I'm not inclined to reread 973 posts looking for it.

I guarantee you can't. Because I am not worried. Nobody is walking around with a loaded weapon in their pocket where I live, law abiding or not.
That my friend is my whole point in this discussion.

I just did. Re-read it. Also, Montjoy took a direct quote and twisted to mean something else entirely. I was referring to a theme in your posts and in the posts of others and not any direct quote.

How could you possibly know the no one is "walking around with a loaded weapon in their pocket"? How could you possibly know that?
You have x-ray vision?

One-third of the 2007 murders were stabbings and another third were by firearm. In 2007, there were 190 stabbings and 188 shootings. Handguns were used in two-thirds of all firearm murders.

I as a resident of usa would never tell citizens of other places how to live or what laws they should live under. jmo

Oh, I have read it a few times. I have no idea how you are equating that post with me being worried about law abiding citizens walking around being armed. Not even close. Keep trying.

I don't believe I need to. Maybe you could answer the question?

Nor would I. I am just telling you how safe I feel where I am. Also, I find this topic of discussion fascinating. Such a different mindset to try to understand.

Safety is a feeling and I feel safe.

How could I possibly know? Because of the minimal amount of handguns that are available. Of course there are some, but there is so little that I have never seen one in my life.
Stay out of the way from the bad guys and things tend to be pretty peaceful.

Not sure what your statistics quoted in this post are supposed to tell me, other than to show the relatively minuscule numbers of shootings in this country.
