Just my opinion that he had one or two intended targets and the others were collateral damage so to speak.
That may come up at the trial.
I wish he'd just plead guilty if he is indeed so, and spare the families of having to listen to everything and even worse-- to be forced to see him in court.

It’s a scary thought he was casing another home :/.

Or, he was psyching himself up to do the killing, talking to himself, a pep talk, ugh.
Indeed !

Fwiw, I believe LE have their man, and no one else was involved.

IMO what the professor says about some of their students can be said of some of the people who make up the "true crime" online community....IMO
Highly doubtful. ^^^

The reason for profilers and even amateur sleuths is to learn and understand, and hopefully prevent another such crime by noticing red flags ?

Whenever I read someone saying this poor young man is the victim of a rush to judgement, I want to remind them the events leading to his arrest included hundreds of hours work by the most highly skilled members of law enforcement . He wasn't arrested on a whim. There was solid evidence saying he is the murderer. If he says he's not, a trial gives him a chance to be exonerated.
I don't think he's a victim of a rush to judgment, but I do want to turn away every time I read someone's post describing what they think he was feeling, thinking, doing, and why. "He just wanted to... he was feeling ... he never measured up so he... and that's why he is evil"

Both are fully emotional speculation, which is a prerogative, I guess. I just prefer the posts that remind me of Miss Marple or Sherlock Holmes.

It’s terribly frightening that he may have been casing more than one residence. Social media may or may not have played a role in any of this, but I do hope we see a surge of actions by young people to create barriers of protection for themselves moving forward.
Lock your doors. Wooden dowels in all windows and sliders. Post on social media two weeks after the event instead of announcing it. It won’t stop all the violence but these things will at least make it a bit more difficult for the evil minded.

Might have been to get to KG since she was back in town? Just a guess.....

My mind goes there, as well. If true, though, then he had to have some kind of contact with her (at least laid eyes on her). As I posted yesterday, when the news about this crime first broke, there was way more social media available on Kaylee (and Maddie, but more on Kaylee). There were almost immediate spoofs and forgeries involving their various TikToks (now long gone). But there were comments on their social media going back well before the crime that shows they were popular, many other people knew of them, knew they were friends, etc. Their beauty was praised openly, but others had negative things to say as well.

Did Bryan encounter Kaylee on social media first? TikTok organizes things geographically for those that want that. There are other SM platforms that also do that (dating apps do it; did Kaylee ever use one?)

It made sense from the beginning that if Kaylee was the target, and IF the perpetrator knew she was leaving, this would be the weekend to strike. Sometimes I do wonder to what degree he really stalked her, if he did. On his trips to their neighborhood, did he meet any of the students at the apartment building? (Many surely would have known of her, perhaps having stopped by one of the parties). I even wonder about listening devices inside the house. Or even cameras. I wonder what LE found at his apartment and in his search/SM records.

With regards to BK cell phone and location, just as a point to consider: Angle of Arrival measurements or AoA, which with enough towers can get the location within one kilometer. More updated networks have the ability to use trilateration which, if supported, gives away the phone's GPS coordinates and that's accurate down to where you might be within that place of interest, yards or feet depending upon the signal.

WELCOME TO WEBSLEUTHS!
You are much needed here. This is a very important aspect of this case, and we sure could use someone who knows what you know about measurements etc.

I know this is going to get me some heat but...I don't quite understand the snarky stance that BK was an idiot. Sure, he got caught. But, if he is guilty, he also committed a crime that the majority of society wouldn't even contemplate, did evade capture for quite awhile, and, given his education background, if guilty of the crimes, is probably basking in the notoriety.

Not backing the guy; given what's shown, I certainly believe him to be the guy. But I don't quite understand the dismissive attitude considering his intelligence surrounding his alleged actions.
Agree in this sense, without the sheath DNA, and the security cam footage of the Elantra they would be at a standstill. MOO The leaving his sheath is an unplanned event.
MOO The car on camera is another thing altogether the only error of planning I see.
He seems to have thought he had a moth lead time on that before he got it out of the area.

Geragos, Says the search warrant being sealed is suspicious. State says if unsealed could compromise the investigation and cause harm to LE. <modsnip - bashing a Websleuths-approved source>

Geragos doubling down on a another suspect imo

I remember we chatted about that here, too. I don't know enough about LE process to know whether it's suspicious wording or not, but I feel as though facts ought to be able to stand on their own.

I would hesitate to seal information unless it could potentially harm the victims' families, which I think must be considered.

Did BK have a buddy that went with him, or vice versa, to the King Rd. house at some point before the murders to party? Is there a real reason BK mentioned arresting someone else? I always just thought he was trying to make LE second-guess themselves. But listening to NewsNation makes me wonder if there is something we don't know.

Interesting...

Do we actually know where he parked? Thinking he could have parked on Queen behind/to the side of the house and actually went through the trees and straight to the sliding door. Opinions?

snipped for focus @10ofRods
I hope info like this does not leak to the criminally minded:
"PRINTED ROAD MAPS* commonly include an index of cities and other destinations found on the map; smaller-scale maps often include indexes of streets and other routes..."

If criminals knew they could navigate to and from crime scenes w The Way of The Ancients, printed maps, who knows how many would evade suspicion, detection, prosecution, & conviction. imo

* CAPPED by me.

I teach a lab class that has a unit on using maps. It is like pulling teeth. I end up having to project a Google map of our campus in order to show them that maps typically put the orientation as North by default (they don't know this) and that the opposite direction is always South (half of them do not know this). And so on. I point out that the actual size of each building is accurately to scale, so their own maps must be accurate as possible (etc).

We do a campus "scavenger hunt" using a paper map. Oh my. Well, after that assignment everyone realizes that teamwork is important and that the 5-6 excellent map readers should be split up and assigned to different teams.

All that being said, some people just really suck at navigation and others seem naturally gifted in that area. Some people tell me they get lost very easily. Some of my students are still being dropped off at campus by grandma or another family member. If I choose several well known locales near campus and ask them to map them onto a properly oriented map, it's almost impossible for them to do from memory. What's the closest way to get to the beach? They don't know, they would usually just consult Google. How many miles is it to the beach, approximately? Some know, most are wild guesses. If I ask everyone to stand up and face the direction they believe to be South, there will be varied responses, with people guessing who is right and then mimicking that person (who is often wrong). It doesn't help that the local freeway onramp that's closest labels the directions "northbound and southbound" when in fact, right where that offramp is, it's actually East/West traffic for a few miles.

I am thinking BK is not one of the navigationally gifted. I don't think he knew better than to tailgate. I don't think he's spatially aware. Or temporally aware (aware of how many times he made the same mistake in an hour, for example).

At 63 yrs old, I still have and love my Rand McNally Road Maps. My daughter had a HS class in Orienteering, which I had never heard of, but fascinating...Navigating with a Compass. Everyone should learn this impov---I have no clue, but thrilled she does:) Wish I had you as a teacher when I was in school;)

That's really interesting!

Thanks for sharing that!

Apparently, the cell networks had been going to the town of Moscow for several years to try to get a permit to put in a better cell tower to create better coverage over the area where the house and UofI sit. It sounds like this isn't the most updated network. Given that information, what are your thoughts?

Lol.. when I hear or see the word Chloroform my mind goes straight to frogs .
Just my opinion. Also confirms my own speculation that people, myself included, can view things differently or have different interpretations of words. My opinion
I've read too many murder mysteries for the word 'chloroform' to evoke biology class frogs, but if I were to get a whiff of it in real life, I'm sure that's exactly where my mind would take me...

I get it ... that whilst in confinement the prisoners need to be treated in a humane fashion.

My only takeaway from the 'vegan' side of the discussion here ( And, I don't mind talking about it as we have a wait ahead of us for the next hearing ! ;) ), is that unless BK would have a serious health issue without his vegan food, I don't think the jail should cater to his every wish; iykwim ?
As certain as most of us are that BK is the guy, until he is convicted he is legally innocent. I might agree with you after conviction, but beforehand I think a prisoner awaiting trial ought to be able to maintain a relatively mainstream food choice such as veganism.

All 3 of the fraternities/sororities that the deceased were members of (Sigma Chi, Alpha Phi, and Pi Beta Phi) have chapters both in Moscow and Pullman. Is it possible that the chapters went to functions at one anothers houses?

Perhaps BK saw or had an interaction with one of them somehwere in Pullman, got either infatuated or pissed off, followed them home and began stalking them in Moscow?

I saw interviews with students from both universities that said the 2 towns were more like one community since they are so close together, so I would think it is plausible. Then again I know nothing about greek life. I'd say normally you wouldn't have people from different universities partying together but this is different since they are basically right next to one another.

If someone else was involved the public would be in danger - that is a lot different than people needing to know if these crimes happened exactly at 4:14AM rather than just a general range. LE is not obligated to share every fact but they do have to protect public safety. IMO they would not say they believe he acted alone if they had any inkling someone else was involved
Unless letting people know there was someone else involved and they're investigating to try to reel them in would cause the investigation to crumble and/or put more people in danger.

The last thing in the AA before he speeds away is - eastbound on Queen. So I think so. JMO

I was reading a handbook for federal officers and one of the things they do first is figure out the most likely course of the assailant and then protect that. The door you see LE use is most likely NOT the door the criminal used. In this case, there were a bunch of stools in front of that door, yes? And LE used the front door.

In other words, I think you may be correct.

Great article.
And scary IMO.

She is talking about a limited number of students who are in college. Consider the millions of people who follow "true crime". Imagine asking all of those people what was the worst crime you committed? If the percentage who have committed serious crimes is similar to her students, it would be a shocking number of serious criminals running around who have never been punished for their crimes...IMO
