But we know the intruder was masked. If he also had any sort of head covering on to protect his hair from blood spatter, DM may not have had much to tell a sketch artist.
They still may, and often do, have witnesses work with a sketch artist. There's a sketch of Joseph DeAngelo (EAR/ONS/GSK) which is literally a black balaclava with only his eyes visible through two eyeholes.

It doesn't make sense for him to be anywhere repeatedly in the early am. As far as we know, he didn't have a job or friend or girlfriend to visit in the early morning hours in Moscow. IMO.
As far as we know... and that is the key.

And imo jmo there will potentially be explanations offered as to why he did need or want to be there. some I can imagine: just liked the town because it's pretty and he liked to get out of pullman; great coffee; liked to run early or late; thought the girls were pretty (it's not a crime); liked to visit the arboretum; liked the library - just lots of reasons there could be imo jmo. I prefer a library much farther away that the one closest to home. I also like a little niche grocery in the same town. ditto for (of all stupid things) the drugstore that carries some hard-to-find cookies. Crazy, potentially, but also true. people are quirky. so what may not make sense to some people can still be explained away as perfectly innocent. And that may be what the defense attempts, and potentially in convincing fashion. just sayin. jmo imo ime.

dubunked Mad Greek
Was it conclusively debunked, though? I never saw enough information one way or another to know if the owner denying it confirmed it was wrong, and People said they stood by their reporting. For all she knew, it happened when she wasn't there. I posted about this a while back, but I don't think it's unfathomable that the owner who is denying the story and the former worker supplying it are both correct in their own ways.

Good to know. Thank you.

IDK what article is being referenced where witnesses say BK was on campus and stared at people, but I think that kind of testimony would get old fast, and result in diminishing returns. I swear, if I were the defense attorney, and the prosecution called witnesses whose sole purpose was to say that they saw BK 'staring', I'd just cross every one of them with 'do you ever stare at people?' and then 'murder any of them?'. I'd probably even try to throw that one in with my own witnesses, too, because really, who hasn't been caught staring. I'm guessing that the prosecution has better evidence than 'I saw I'm staring'. jmo imo ime. The gag order has really put a kibosh on potential BK discussion, sadly.

MOO don’t see anything in U of Idaho graduate programs that looks like criminology, so the library would almost necessarily be less useful to a phD student in criminology. WSU ranked 195th out of 2000+ criminology programs, would assume their library to be pretty good.

I'm not sure this alone would make the UI library of less interest to BK. It might have great psychology research sources. While his library records should remain private unless subpoenaed, they might be interesting. He also might prefer using it to do personal research on topics he doesn't want his WSU records to reflect.

We have much to learn about BK.

I seriously doubt these people are being called as witnesses. That's exactly why they're scurrying off to the media for their fifteen minutes of dubious fame.

I was just amusing myself and making the point that it's really lame that this is being 'reported'.

If you're curious to see it, google 'golden state killer sketch'. There were a bunch where people saw his face, and at least one where he wore a balaclava with the whole centre of his face exposed, but the 'black balaclava' one, everything but his eyes was hidden, even his mouth and nostrils.

In I'll Be Gone in the Dark, Larry Pool refers to a sketch he has hung on his wall of GSK in a ski mask, which I assume is that one.

"Is it of any value? No. But we know he looked like that."

So, identification is important, but it's not everything.

This case truly has some of the thirstiest bystanders I've seen in a while.

Yes, I can see that, thank you! Just not sure what it proves or how it could be made relevant? She didn't think that her friends were dead at 4.20am. So she would answer yes to that hypothetical question. Nonetheless, she still saw someone in the house and her friends were still dead the next day. So the question would be designed to discredit her re the "shock phase" statement and through that her reliability/credibility? If Defence insinuates she lied about being alarmed maybe she lied about seeing anybody? Or could the defense insinuate that because she didn't call the police, she hallucinated seeing anyone or that she is lying about seeing anyone? That line of questioning makes sense to me if that was to be the defense's approach. Is that a credible/fertile approach for the defense?

MOO, hypothetical, speculation only.
Yes. They will use her lack of a 911 cast doubt on her testimony at a minimum. Any descriptions that she can make (tall, skinny, white, male, consistent with suspect) are very important. If the defense is able to knock that down, they can cloud the jury with suggestions that the suspect may be any race or gender.

IMO, there are already too many things lined up that a reasonable person would not convict.

BK's DNA on the knife sheath was a home run. Getting any VICTIM'S DNA from the Elantra or his apartment would be a grand slam...game over.

Others on here have said and I agree, that this so much more circumstantial evidence with the car, license plate absence, phone cell tower pings, social media messages (possibly), (possibly) searches on his phone or computer relating to any of the girls.. that this alone COULD have been but was not probably quite enough to ensure a conviction.

Bottom line is LE got their guy and with all the help from Idaho State Police and the FBI, they will have all their ducks in a row come trial time.

I am not sweating this...
I think the defense could come up with something for DNA (he was at their party, she went in his car). I think it would have to be the victims blood.

However, I think they have way more evidence than we know. The affidavit just gave what was needed to establish probable cause.

Cross Examining Witnesses Who Saw BCK Staring?
... witnesses say BK was on campus and stared at people,... if I were the defense attorney, and the prosecution called witnesses whose sole purpose was to say that they saw BK 'staring', I'd just cross every one of them with 'do you ever stare at people?' and then 'murder any of them?' ....
snipped for focus. @Sister Golden Hair
Re cross examining a witness--- do you ever stare at ppl?

As prosecutor, I'd say "Objection, Your Honor, Relevance."
And as Judge, I'd say "Sustained."
As a juror, I'd say to myself, What's the point of this Q?
imo.
(Sorry, @Sister Golden Hair if your post was made in jest. Sometimes I'm too literal minded and sometimes too dense, and other times, well, both.)

As always, welcoming clarification or correction, esp'ly from our legal professionals.

Could the defense get him off of this charge if there is little additional evidence past what is in the affidavit? I feel like it’s enough but barely.

(NewsNation) — New details from sources close to NewsNation shed light on how the Idaho college killings unfolded.
Kaylee Goncalves and Madison Mogen were killed first, and the sources confirmed that Ethan Chapin and Xana Kernodle were killed on the second floor afterwards, according to sources.
They also said that Chapin was killed in the doorway of Kernodle’s room, and Kernodle apparently fought back. She repeatedly grabbed the knife from suspect Bryan Kohberger, and she suffered deep cuts to her fingers. Chapin apparently suffered a slash to the neck, according to sources.

Ten miles in a major city is a long way, but I don't know that people in Pullman and Moscow think of it as a long distance. I drive ten miles just to go to the store where I live. From what I gather, it does seem like people in both towns frequently drive over to the other town for all sorts of reasons, even if they have no affiliation with the universities. MOO
I agree.

Doesn’t that Jack in the Box sack in the kitchen indicate that people don’t feel a great separation between Pullman and Moscow?

How does she know that this will be a legal issue if she hasn't verified what the sources told her is true?

I don't think it matters whether the injuries were described as cuts, tears, slashes or gouges when it comes to conflicting statements the coroner made.

The victims were said to have been stabbed in the "chest and upper body," which can include the neck, head, face, back, etc so I'm not sure why we'd be surprised if they had neck wounds.

That they were originally said to have been asleep in their beds is also not something I would think would be a conflict at trial. LE later verified that some of the victims had been in their beds.

Either way, the coroner did not conduct the autopsy and as far as I know we've not heard a word from the Pathologist.
