Good Advice! IMO 911 takes too long, a lot longer than a well placed shot at the perp!

Maybe we should start a "Stay Safe Thread"

Ladies, Just an FYI. If you live alone and fear someone coming into your bedroom while you sleep: 1) get a sturdier lock installed, 2) push a dresser in front of the door and 3) have an escape plan through a window.

Everyone should have a home saftey plan that includes fire escapes and intruders. I would counsel any parent, who's children are moving into their first home away from home to walk through with them and help them ensure that their place is safe and secure.

It doesn't take much to block a slider, check security bars on basement windows can be removed and higher level rooms may benefit from a simple rope ladder and locks on bedroom doors can be beneficial.

If DM stayed in her room after calling her roommates without reponse wouldn’t that actually be beyond brave? I picture a dark quiet house that as far as she knew just had everyone screaming in it and a masked stranger running around. Now she was stuck with her only protection being a residential door.
Depends on what time she called and IF there was screaming. IMO

IMO she ran down to BFs room and slept there.

The search warrant won't say what they found, will it? Just what they were looking for...

There's the original warrant, which will have generic language in it, and then there's the filing of what was actually collected. We've seen the results for BK's apartment in Pullman. It's a brief list of what they tagged and took out, it's provided so that both sides are aware of what was collected.

The unsealing of that is what is likely being referred to. IMO.

Stay Safe Thread, count me in.
U of Idaho Alumni raised $$ to provide personal alarms to students. YAY
So many great personal alarm items on the market now. I didn't even know existed before.
January '23 my own Alma Mater bookstore sent out ads for a new high tech security bracelet that does amazing things with hidden buttons connecting to friends, 911 or police; also it can text or phone up to 5 friends with your location or even send a pre-made up fake call to yourself asking you to leave/come someplace else.

Of course a predator would likely know what the devices are used for.; not every predator is shopping-smart.

Yeah, but then what the prosecutor does is have a witness to explain, for example, how LE's understanding of the case evolved. Juries are capable of understanding that something looked like X at the beginning of the case and new information led to a new view.
Absolutely. And if the investigation team doesn’t follow the evidence as they uncover it, they would be stuck in tunnel vision.

Bryan Kohberger's Hyundai Elantra Could Prove Key to Deciding Idaho Verdict

I’m still baffled by the language used in PCA , regarding DM statement:
“DM stated she originally she went to sleep in her bedroom on the southeast side of the second floor ……”. So where did she end up later on ? southeast side of the first floor ? “ Originally” says to me she moved to another location at some point .
It might be as simple as she originally went to sleep in her room and was awakened several times in a short period. Subsequently, she went *back* to sleep. JMO

I'm basing my theory off of things I read at the same time Ethan's sister in law shared her post on Reddit (according to the DailyMail). Reddit is not an authorized source so I'm not going to link or share the details of the non-reported info here.

But just know that DM's story (corroborated in the PCA) leaked along with this information (conditions in which the 911 calls were made) on 11/13 and everyone ran around in circles dismissing it and coming up with a zillion other alternative theories. And I think that just like DM's story that everyone doubted, the unconscious person call (and other tidbits) will all end up being true.

Occam's razor. Gotta love it!

It sense for her to move rooms to be someplace she felt safer and we are taught from a young age that there is safety in numbers.

I would suggest that it may have taken her a bit of time to make wait until she felt it was okay to make a mad dash to a lower level.

Agree. Has it been established who was the first to discover the bodies of X and E? I'm thinking DM did not try to use the bathroom close to X's room at any point during the night or early morning, otherwise it would've be she. I haven't looked at the floor plan lately, but there must be a bathroom on the first floor.

Yes, there’s a bathroom on every floor.

Without this being TMI I'd have needed to use the bathroom several times between 4am and noon so I'm thinking she had to use it at least once. Was it possible (don't roast me if this has been discussed and I missed it) that Xana's door was closed so she didn't see anything? I know an investigator made mention that he saw her lying on the floor (and he's not Superman so no X-ray vision), but others were there processing the scene before he arrived and his statement of seeing her... likely the door was open at that point, but perhaps not when/if DM used the restroom. IOW... those processing the scene opened the door and left it open before Dustin Baker got his walk-thru.

Upon our arrival, the Idaho State Police Forensic Team was on scene and was preparing to begin processing the scene. MPD Officer (OFC) Smith, one of the initial responding officers to the incident, advised he would walk me through the scene.

<...> As I approached the room, I could see a body, later identified as Kernodle's, laying on the floor.

I've suspected this all along. Maybe the clothes he was wearing the night of the murders? Why else would he slink out to his Pennsylvania neighbor's garbage can at 4 in the morning and dispose of trash while wearing gloves???

IMO he ditched his clothes and weapon right after the murders when he took awhile and a round-about way to arrive home. No way he had that stuff 6 weeks later in PA. But he doesn't sound like a real clean person, so I wouldn't be surprised if he hadn't cleaned it since Nov 13, and knew he should throw away any potential DNA or hair etc that he might have transferred. I wonder if the cops pulling him over set off his senses they were on to him? Though I think the car cleaning was like 2 weeks after the drive.

Bryan Kohberger's Hyundai Elantra Could Prove Key to Deciding Idaho Verdict

"Investigators said they honed in on the suspect in the slayings of four University of Idaho students through a white sedan that was spotted near the scene of the crime.

An officer at Washington State University found a 2015 Hyundai Elantra registered to Bryan Kohberger—a 28-year-old doctoral student in criminology—on November 29. Another officer that day saw Kohberger's vehicle in a parking lot, looked up his name and noted he had switched his car registration from Pennsylvania to Washington on November 18—five days after the murders.

The affidavit said investigators looked at Kohberger's history and saw he had given a deputy a cell phone number during an August traffic stop. Using surveillance footage and cell phone data, they sketched out a possible travel route on the night of the killings.

Newsweek asked several experts how important Kohberger's Hyundai Elantra could be in the case against him.

Joseph Giacalone, adjunct professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice

"The vehicle will take center stage," Giacalone said.

If investigators have identified blood or any other trace evidence from the victims in Kohberger's vehicle, that "would be huge," he said. "If they can uncover evidence of trying to get rid of evidence, such as bleach, that will also be damaging for the defense."

Duncan Levin, managing partner of Levin & Associates

"Kohberger's car is a critical piece of evidence because he allegedly changed the title and license plate to the car five days after the murders, and it was seen on video driving around the area of the house where the murders took place," Levin said.

"It may also be used if law enforcement is able to find any forensic evidence in the car, like blood. Given today's forensic technology, you can't clean your car well enough to cover up what law enforcement can find."

Michael McAuliffe, former federal prosecutor and elected state attorney

The vehicle's movements "before, during and after" the murders will be key, McAuliffe said.

That "will surely play an important role in connecting the murders to Kohberger," he added.

Joseph Scott Morgan, professor of applied forensics at Jacksonville State University in Alabama

Morgan said prosecutors will seek to demonstrate that Kohberger's vehicle was used to follow the victims, purchase items for use in crimes, arrive to and flee the crime scene, and travel across the country to avoid prosecution.

And if anything from the victims is found in the vehicle, especially DNA, that "would be damning," Morgan said.

"The key is, what is the source of the sample? Skin, blood, something else?" he said. Skin is "much easier to explain away," but if it is bloody it would be very difficult to explain, he said.

"This car will have been taken apart down to its base elements... seat cushions, armrests, dashboard, subflooring.... this car will make an appearance in court piece by piece."
... [...] ..."

This car will make me crazy. How are they going to explain that they were searching for a 2011-2013 Elantra and then Whoops, we meant 2015? Because the differences on the type of Elantra they showed images of between a 2011-2013 and a 2015 are distinctive. Unless there was something 2011-2013 on the 2015 (like the wheels), whomever was reviewing the tapes and identified it incorrectly needs to go back and learn some more about car identification.

If they had just said 2011-2016, it would have covered all of the 5th gen.

MOO, it's a car person thing.

I only find one inconsistency, not a "number" of them. If there were more I haven't seen any even though I have asked for proof. I find one blown out of proportion. Typical of the NYP and DM.

I would like to see this long list of inconsistencies. It has been mentioned here and there on the thread so I am curious as to what all these are. I wasn't on here until more recently, I missed most earlier discussions.

I am only talking about what LE officially announced. Not the rumors and media speculation which happen in all crimes like this.

I'll direct you to message #514. You're free to disagree with it, but I did say what the inconsistencies were, IMO, and provided links to MSM commenting on them (the inconsistences by LE) too.
