A big question I've had is whether or not DeOrr's g-grandfather had actually seen DeOrr prior to turning his head or if he was only told DeOrr was napping.
Another great question.
A big question I've had is whether or not DeOrr's g-grandfather had actually seen DeOrr prior to turning his head or if he was only told DeOrr was napping.
My question is, in the event it was an animal (which I agree with you, that it's not likely) wouldn't there still be blood somewhere?
Regarding blood and a struggle, if it was a mountain lion the answer to that would be no with a child that size. A lion would clamp down on either the skull or neck, killing the victim instantly, hence no blood or struggle and then easily carry the body somewhere. If the ground was hard it'd be very difficult to see any evidence if there was any. Any eventual blood drips or drag marks would be very difficult to find in ALL that terrain too. A lion attacking an adult will produce a struggle and blood (most of the time), but not with a child this size. They are so easily taken down.
I truly hate typing all that, and I'm still hoping by some miracle he's alive whatever happened to him. At the very least I'm praying they find some evidence of what happened to him.
Really good point Inthedetails about the timing and it being nap time, etc. I keep going back and forth as to what I think happened. First watching the long video I did believe the father and felt really sorry for both mom and dad. But when people point out things like this, I go back onto the fence.
So the timing looks something like this:
-Around noon dad takes fuzzy DeOrr to the store and buys him a candy bar.
-Around 1:00? Mom and dad leave DeOrr with great-grandpa and go off exploring
-About 10 minutes later they notice DeOrr is missing.
-Search for an hour and call LE/SAR at 2:36.
Did I miss anything?
Typing that brings up more questions. When did they start this camping trip? Was it the first day or had they been there overnight? If it was the first day, why was DeOrr already dirty/fussy, etc at noon? Who else was camping with them? Was it just Mom, Dad, DeOrr and Great-Grandpa? Was the campground full? Other campers around?
Maybe they bought wood at the store? OR around my state, homes near campsites have wood, you drop the money in and take the wood. And after he promise Deorr candy so they went to the store.
I have reread this thread so many times. I have the same questions as most of you. The parents left Deorr with gramps around 1:35? And came back at 2:15? So almost a hour of Deorr walking alone? See this is why I had to reread it so much. My mind can't seem to function on the timeline. I think Deorr is either in the water or outside the radius they've looked. Because once help came, Deorr could even be farther away![]()
I'm trying to get the timeline straight as well. I think that they said that DeOrr was only with Gr-Grandpa for about 10 minutes before they discovered him missing. I see somebody just mentioned that they searched for him for 20 minutes before calling for help. The call was made at 2:36. So the noticed him missing at around 2:15. I thought they said they searched for him for an hour. Are stories changing?
Which brings up something I thought a little strange in the interview. JM made the call for help at 2:36. DK claimed that he jumped in his truck to go make the call around the same time, because he didn't have cell phone reception at the campsite. He didn't know she had made the call and managed to get through to LE. When he reached the emergency number they said it had already been reported. So was DK actually at the camp when DK jr. went missing? Or was DK away when mom and grandpa noticed he was gone?
My head is spinning with questions. I need to walk away for a bit.
Do these lions come out during the day?
I agree with teeandcee. Cats can just grab and shake - snapping the neck in a split second. This would be easy for them with such a small child. Sorry to write this.
Little Deorr might have wandered away from the camp and been grabbed, killed, and carried away by a lion even before they realized he's missing.
I wonder if they have tried to search know spots, caves, etc in the area where big cats have been known to sleep/breed, etc?
A mountain lion crushes the neck suffocating it's victim, they don't shake. They pretty much sleep wherever they want, often laying in tree branches. They don't stick to one place they roam over large areas, unless they find an spot with plentiful food.
After watching the video .... I don't see or feel Anything hinky .... Yes dad is overbearing at times but I think that's just his personality .
One thing that bothers me is what are they talking about when the person off camera mentions the EMT bag ? DKS says "well get to that " but he never does . Whoever was asking about it was pretty adminant about discussing it . Any more info on that bag??
Also it's odd to me that they never mention an animal attack possibility ?
One more thing is first dad says it's open and would be hard to disappear . Then he says you can't see out ???
Lastly , the reservoir is only a few feet deep ? You can see the bottom from the ridge . If that's true then they would most certainly be able to see a body from the helicopter .
The bag is brought up at about the 6th minute maybe a few second before .The mysterious EMT bag ... is everyone sure that they heard correctly? Could it have been something else? It makes no sense to me. *baffled
I'm not able to watch the video right now, maybe later. At what minute is this said?
