Sheriff Lynn Bowerman tells EastIdahoNews.com the parents have changed their story “numerous times” about what happened during a family camping trip on July 10.

“Their timeline keeps changing, where they were at keeps changing, and movements and statements about DeOrr Jr. keep changing,” Bowerman says.

Finally an explanation for the ever changing, confusing timeline...

All the time, resources and money that have been dedicated to this case. It's sickening. I hope the parents are held accountable and I hope someone with authority is looking into the current fundraising situation (where they have raised in excess of 20K to pay for investigative services).

I would imagine that Klein is not pocketing his fee, who knows though. Hopefully there was some record keeping of the donated items and monies so that appropriate refunds can be issued. Otherwise that will be a mess on top of the loss of this baby. Unfortunately it doesn't seem, at least to me, that this family has the means to compensate the state for their efforts.

Couldn't you just feel it coming in the air?

Finally!!!
I've been reading here, following the news every day, silently supporting Klein's statements... I'm glad this happened.

Same here-no mountain lion, no stranger in a black car, suspected this from the start. Gut feeling that Klein knew what he was talking about~

I guess their perfect storm wasn't so perfect after all.

Bowerman said he believes DeOrr's parents know where he is and whether he is dead or alive.

"We've basically centered our investigation on them," he said.

I find it hard to believe that he is alive, but Bowerman has certainly left that possibility open, for whatever reason. Maybe that is why they have waited so long to name them as suspects - perhaps they thought there was a chance of finding him alive if they just played along with the parents' stories and waited for a tip or a break to tell them where to look.

" "We don't want to jeopardize the investigation and charge them too early, for fear that we might find DeOrr and it might change.""

OMG does this mean what I'm thinking, that there's a chance he's still alive?

I took that to mean that finding little DeOrr might give additional indication of what happened to cause his death - but you're right, I guess it could mean that he's still alive! That would really be something!

It sounds like they don't know for sure, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

The fundraiser just happened on the 16th so those funds likely have not been disbursed yet. I hope they freeze the account(s).

Bowerman said he has met with prosecutors, the FBI and the Bonneville County Sheriff's Office and plans to take his time and make sure the case is solid before bringing charges against Mitchell and Kunz............

"We're asking the public at this time to come forward with any information that they might have concerning the parents and their interaction with their son DeOrr that they might have witnessed," he said.

Looks to me like they are looking to see if there was previous pattern of behavior of the parents for a possible trial.

Bowerman says portions of polygraph tests administered to Kunz and Mitchell have come back inconclusive - including questions about knowing what happened to DeOrr, why the child disappeared and where the toddler is located.

"Their statements don't match, and it's frustrating because we have absolutely no idea where DeOrr is," Bowerman says. "There have been so many inconsistencies that it's hard to tell the truth from everything they've said." .....

Bowerman says polygraphs administered to Reinwand and Walton have been inconclusive, but those results were expected because of both men's mental states.

Bowerman and Lemhi County Chief Deputy Steve Penner were in Idaho Falls all weekend working with Bonneville County Sheriff detectives and FBI agents.

Bowerman says Kunz and Mitchell were interviewed along with Walton and Reinwand. Walton and Reinwand have not been cleared, but investigators are focusing on Kunz and Mitchell, Bowerman said.

ETA - I fixed link thanks nessaki!

I know I thought this at the beginning, not sure if I posted it or not due to TOS fears, but at the start I had flashbacks to the Shannon Matthews case here in the UK where Shannon's birth-giver hid her to gain access to appeal funds. I often wondered whether this was a similar scenario - at least because it would mean that there was a chance that innocent little DeOrr Jr would still be alive. Hopefully he is (but I know I am clutching at straws) :please:

What a mess!!! How could they live a lie for so long? IMO - that points to drug use. MOO, addicts have no problem telling lies and will make you think you are the CRAZY ONE if you question them. I am hoping this was an accident and they made the stupidest decision ever in their lives which lead to Deorr's disappearance. I want to believe they loved Deorr and wanted to be good parents but maybe an addiction was getting in the way of that.

I wonder why when I go to that article this new information isn't showing up. Is anyone else having that problem? TIA
