I don't see CD as particularly charismatic, or intelligent. Narcissistic, yes. It seems like he couldn't really work a "job". Mostly jobs that were low skilled, with slim to no interaction with other employees or supervisors. Tammie Daybell worked for the City of Springville, where CD got his job working at the cemetery. CD was writing books, that appealed to a specific audience, and his writing was so "out there" that he lost Deseret Book, an LDS publisher. That is when he started his own "vanity press", with Tammy doing all of the work.

When CD wanted to move to Idaho, Tammy managed to get a job working in the school district, it seems like CD was doing sales, again, a job that doesn't require getting along with co-workers, or supervisors.

I will throw this out there, pure speculation, I wonder if Tammy's family was not impressed with CD, and CD wanted to get some "space" from that situation.

LVD probably thought CD was a businessman, with more resources. I will hazard a guess that CD's finances were pretty unhealthy, spending money to impress LVD. In a spiral, and Tammie's death benefits were going to fix that.

Lots of speculation here, based on reading several articles about CD. No references. But it is easy to see a picture of CD from the articles.

I know that way way back in this forum, we had a lot of discussion regarding how and why Chad convinced Tammy to leave Utah.... and from some facts and speculation there was a strong belief that Chad was looking more and more like a loser. Bankrupt, Tammy picking up more the management of the business as well as the one getting a real job.

This "start over" in Idaho... truly allowed Chad to climb back into the clouds of illusion and delusion.

It would be great if the prosecution does bring in Tammy's parents as witnesses!!! WE here on WS would love it!!

Chad's blog post from Sept 2015 that details the move from Utah to Idaho: 14- Following the path to . . .Idaho? | cdaybell.com. He claims that he had better publishing opportunities there.

"Tammy wasn’t thrilled, and I completely understood her feelings. Moving to Idaho would be a major undertaking that would uproot us from our families. So I tried not to bring it up again. Then after a few weeks she also felt impressed by the Spirit that it was what we should do. She started looking at real estate websites."

Of course! It was the "spirit" talking. No mention that CD felt frustrated that he had been a "counselor in the bishopric for 6 years"...but not yet "called" to be a bishop. Doesn't look like the move to Idaho changed much.

(LDS church, "callings" goals are to move forward in church callings, increased status...it is a huge deal in Utah, Idaho...)

Getting a guard to fall for her and do her bidding seems like a real danger.
Absolutely! I mentioned this when she was first jailed. She has a talent for manipulating men and women. Jail/prison is an ideal hunting ground for Lori. Nothing to do all day but work on her sociopath skills. Hopefully her designation as incompetent, cured or not, will wave a huge red flag to everyone who interacts with her.

What's the point of MM's proposed private hospital visits to Lori before her competency is restored? Since she's incapable of helping with her defense they can't conduct business. Does he want to be there for emotional support or to oversee her treatment? Is that an attorney's role?
His insistence on seeing her privately during treatment only convinces me more her “incapacitation” is a legal ploy rather than a true medical condition.

.

It is as though, Means wants to create barriers to LVD getting treatment that he states she needs.

Snipped and Bolded for focus

Exactly!

I think they're both evil incarnate, but I think the manipulating came from Chad.

He is the one who wanted a god-like life. He's the one who claimed he had an NDE and could now converse with passed saints. He's the one who wrote books and wanted adoration for them.

I think he has all the trappings of a wannabe cult leader.

Then Lori entered--a devout, but narcissistic woman who was prettier than anything Chad ever dreamed would look his way. He lured and egged her on with his promises of her being a goddess, and she was stupid enough to believe him.

There was no reason to kill either Charles or Tammy. They could have divorced them, and Lori was no stranger to divorce, so I feel as though Chad was the one who didn't want a divorce to strain his reputation. If Tammy died, he could be a widower, which was much more respectful.

I think killing JJ and Tylee was the way Lori had to prove she would put Chad first. Again, she'd married and brought kids along as baggage before, I just don't think it was in Chad's plans for him to have more kids around. Lori had to prove she belonged to Chad.

Plus, I think she really fell for his story that death here might be better for them because great tribulations were coming. She believed their bodies would die but they would live on in another realm.

I would not be surprised if Chad created some sort of death ritual with her where they commended the children's spirits to next planet or something.

Chad had to have gotten a HUGE feeling of power over that.

I think it was Chad.

Lori may never be competent again. I don't think she ever really was. I think she's been a psychopathy from childhood.

I completely agree that he masterminded the entire thing and manipulated her.

That said, she obviously had issues, maybe an undiagnosed mental illness and/or personality disorder which could have made her venerable to Chad’s manipulation. I sadly watched an old friend get sucked into a religious cult years ago, and looking back, there were signs that she was “off” and I think that made her venerable.

It does imply malingering, I agree. He is all over Twitter to feed the drama and get attention / reactions. I think they read all the social media together most everyday. She plots the path forward based on public opinion, and he makes it happen. They are playing the long con imo. He is a loyal minion, but that's his job. Moo

I don’t remember but is Means being paid as a public defender now? If so then can the judge remove him and replace him with an actual member of the public defender office?

Local update: MM was not at the women’s detention center today

Religious cults prey (no pun intended) on people like that, specifically because they are vulnerable and needy.

Means doesn't seem to understand much about mental health treatment. This is not a spa retreat, where you can have your friends drop by for a visit. Or the jail, where Means seems to have excessively liberal visits with LVD for an attorney.

I can't see any facility coordinator signing off on Means demands. And it makes no sense. Treatment is about routine, getting up, taking a shower, getting dressed, going to breakfast, cleaning, exercise time, therapy session, group education, lunch, rest, chores, on and on...that is part of the treatment process.

Means can't just hang out all day, it would completely disrupt treatment. And his demands to know about credentials of staff, on and on...preposterous. Staff members are professionals, they are not going to run to a gossip rag about LVD. She isn't important enough to blow off years of education.

It is as though, Means wants to create barriers to LVD getting treatment that he states she needs.
Great post. IMO Means is afraid of two things:
  • They’ll restore competency
  • He’ll have to do some actual in-court lawyering on her behalf instead of making his case via Twitter

Means is loving his high profile client. He never had anyone as interesting before on the "Ambulance Chasing" circuit. The judge ought to put a Kibosh on the "Twitter" feed, or really, it could be an ethics and confidentiality issue. Report him to the Idaho Bar Association.

Just saying.

Oh, how I agree with this comment following the linked article:

Means sounds a little too uh, involved. Inappropriately involved. Almost creepy.

jmho ymmv lrr

I mean, isn't that her standard operating procedure? Charm them into doing what she wants?

I feel like for a while there (a month or so?) he was reported showing up every day with the exception of the Friday before Mother's Day, the latter of which evidence of sanity I was happy to receive lol. (I hope the Mrs. demanded at that point to be taken on a long weekend vacay!!)
