So from the interview we learn that Melani was not close to Alex most of her life, and was closer to her uncle Adam.
It appears she suddenly got close with Alex around June 2019 - which is when she told Brandon she wanted a divorce. We also know from Ian's notes that Melani told Ian "that Brandon had been possessed by a demon or another dark entity some time after June"
She said to EIN: "but after starting to have challenges in my last marriage, Alex was a truck driver and you could just call him, he always answered."
and a part left out of the transcript by EIN, she relays after some thought, the reason for not being close with Alex:
"I wasn't super close with Alex, he, um, I didn't ever get his jokes, he was a comedian and I just was always like I don't, I'm, it probably takes me a minute to process, like longer than most people, so I would never really like connect as much with Alex as I did with Adam or Lori, but um,"
(timestamp in video 20:16 - watch her demeanor change from worry about how she's going to explain it, to laughing it off)
We also know that Lori said on the day of Charles' shooting she hadn't spoken to Adam in a long time. And we know that Charles was in contact with Adam over the email she sent to Chad in June.
Melani is 31. She came back into the Cox fold when she was 15, when Tylee was around 2. I believe I read in one of the threads that she nannied for Tylee for a while.
EIN: "Finally, when I was 15, I found my uncle Adam" and "connecting all the ties from age 9 to 15. For all those years, they didn’t have me"
Why would Melani suddenly connect with Alex, 15 years after being back with the Cox family? The same month Lori returned to Arizona from Texas. The same month Brandon became a zombie. Why would she turn to the uncle she was least close with, to talk about her divorce? She must have suddenly come to like his jokes, 15 years later. June 2019.
CBS:
Janis, Alex was your son, and he has been described as the family hitman.
JC: (Laughs) I can’t help but laugh. Alex is the most laid back person. He’s been funny his whole life. He was protective of, very protective of Colby and Tylee. Very protective. He said I tasered a paedophile, and so he said I’m willing to admit it, he’s he’s always owned up to anything he’s done wrong. He certainly wasn’t perfect. But he doesn’t have the intensity of a hitman. He doesn’t have the desire to be hit…he doesn’t think that death solves anything.
2019 - Adam was in the doghouse. Alex was the uncle of the year. I hope Nate presses them on the zombie notes, because she knows exactly how to wriggle out of a direct question, just like her Aunt Summer and her Aunt Lori. IMO
