Idaho Student Says Teacher Tossed His Mexican Flag In The Trash

  • #141
I do agree with upholding school policies and I agree that if the school had a policy in place the kid should/would have lost his rights for breaking the rules. However, I didn't notice any comments stating that the student broke any school rules. Perhaps the kid used poor judgement. Perhaps the teacher was right to take the flag. Flags are symbolic, and putting it in the trash takes it a step beyond just trying to keep kids orderly. Should any flag from any country be put in the trash? No.
Bingo!:clap::clap::clap:

Ok...did anyone picture Pedro from "Napoleon Dynamite" while reading this story?

Oh. Then you won't mind me bringing my Confederate flag to your school.

Much as I think that bringing it would be tacky, the ACLU would defend your right to do so.

You know, I wasn't even going to go there, but for crying out loud!!!!! She completely ignores all of the FACTS that I posted and posts crap like illegal Mexicans in America can't get medical care. WHAT????? If illegal immigrants were not receiving FREE medical care, FREE education, FREE welfare, etc., America wouldn't be having the problems that its experiencing now with trying to take care of 13 million illegals. I posted that the Mayor of Toronto is experiencing the same things that many cities in America is facing, but apparently, she glossed right over that little fact.

Facts are those little things that get in the way of the things we need to believe.

We wouldn't want that to happen.

I so would not take that bet. They tend to be extremely picky about their fights.

From Fort Mills Times

"That is not true, never," said Straatman, noting he has several Latino friends who speak English poorly. "If I had a problem with Hispanics, I wouldn't associate with these people," Straatman said. "Nobody ever called me a racist before."
That is such a stretch. Your agenda is now as loud as a bullhorn These people are his community.

When he says "those people" or "these people" it is quite evident that "those" people he refers to are non white.
D'oh, again he is talking about who he has been accused of being racist against.

I also put money on the fact that many, "white" American's will feel that these "former" "Mexican jobs" are beneath them and will refuse to work at these jobs.
Hey!! Thats racist

If I was in charge, I would gladly "welcome" "them" in Canada, we have so many opportunities for immigrants in our country and actually need immigrants to ensure our future population. Remember the USA has 10 times as many people as Canada
You guys having trouble keeping Canadians in Canada or hooking up

My 2nd grader had to bring in Tortillas for Cinco de Mayo and they had a fiesta in the classroom. I went in the Friday before and stayed all day decorating with the students and other parent volunteers for the fiesta. I thought it was fun and the kids learned alot too. I don't really know what the big deal was for this teacher to take the boys flag but on the other hand I don't understand why our kids can't pray in school either. I think if your going to ban one thing then you have to ban everything..
totally different issue- separation of church vs. state, freedom of religion & freedom from religion. Nothing to do with countries or heritage or immigration issues.

Why don't we get down to the root of what's really wrong with Canada, huh???

It's, like, totally cold there.

This thread made me want to get Mexican food for dinner. Thanks!

I've read the thread....

The problem is, I don't believe the teacher. What we know *for sure* is there was a flag taken away and put in the trash. Now, knowing I don't believe the teacher, what other possible reason would he have for taking it away from the kid in the dressing room? The immigration issue is insinuated, imo. I don't buy the "it was for his protection" excuse. I don't buy the "trash was the only place to put it" excuse. I think this teacher bullied this kid.

I'm with you Yeah.

I know you come from the land of milk and honey, but you guys have JUST AS MANY PROBLEMS as America does, and some worse.

Pardon me, you are comparing Canada and the USA as having the same problems. Having just as many problems and some worse. Can you please be more specific.

So please, can you tell me what worse problems we have.........we may not be perfect and we do have problems(what country does not), but to compare the USA and Canada as having just as many problems is not reflected in reality.

WE take Human rights and fairness and non discrimination very seriously.

We pride ourselves on being Canadian, but not to the exclusion of any other member of society. It does not matter what ethnic background the member of society is from. Human Rights are Human rights.

You really cannot compare Canada and the USA when it comes to diversity. We don't expect people who come to Canada to forget their heritage and culture. We celebrate it and encourage it.

There is a concerted effort to ensure that New Canadians can fully participate in society and contribute to society. Have the same opportunities as "Canadian born white people".

As I see it, this whole case and thread is just a simple clear cut case of discrimination. Especially when the "ethnic" student body makes up 33% and the "white" students make up 66%. So whom do you think has a problem with whom.

This student was degraded, demeaned, humiliated, just because he brought the flag of his culture and heritage to school to celebrate with other students.

Why would the other students have a problem with this, why would the teacher have a problem with this. Oh I forgot, the student is from Mexico and thought he had the same rights as white students, that seems to be the problem.

How about taking a USA flag to a school in Canada to celebrate a US holiday only to be treated the way this student was.

Guess what, the students probably would want to participate, not humiliate. They would ask questions and a lesson would probably be developed as a learning experience, not a lesson in discrimination and how to treat people differently based on their culture and heritage.

You see I am the offspring of immigrants: My grandparents came from Scotland and England. Mother is from France and Father is Italian. Hubby is from California. The only true Americans and Canadians are native Indians. Everyone else is the product of immigration.

P.S. Cyberlaw, you can tell Karole that Israel is "the land of milk and honey".

It's the National flag of Mexico, not a gang flag, not gang colors.

You're absolutely right about that LinasK. See below:

Last fall the campus group La Raza flew the The Mexican Flag over the UNM campus for several days–
This symbolizes that a US territory has been taken over.

http://www.stoptheaclu.com/archives/2008/04/06/vigalante-vet-sentenced-for-desecrating-mexican-flag/

MIM: Voz de Aztlan is the website of a Hispanofacist groups MEChA and La Raza, who openly proclaim their goal is to 'Hispanicise' the United States and create a Nation of Aztlan in it's place. These Hispano facists are using the current immigration protests as the vanguard of a Hispanic takeover of the United States (by the 'brown and bronze races'), starting with California and the Southwest, which they intend to 'reclaim' as their falsified 'spiritual and territorial legacy,in the same way Nazi Germany intended to forge the 'Third Reich' by conquering all of Europe as a prelude to world domination. The slogan of the movement epitomises their Hispano supremacist agenda;

"For the race everything. For those outside the race, nothing".

There are many, many more websites that glorify the taking over of America beginning with the flags. If you think students should be involved in this, I'd be disappointed.
