Ideas for book title

Hi SD - I think the book will great - I would dare to say it could make the best seller list.
I still think, though, that your chapter 6 should be in the intro., because when people see you were an IDI, and then changed to RDI, that is going to make them say, "Hey, what changed this guy's mind - I NEED to read this book and find out."

Your input about kids being kids, made me think of my daughter. My GD was in pageants since she was 2 1/2 years old. She was even voted most photogenic child in the State of PA when she was 4. They were constantly on the run from one pageant to another, and I could see it was more the wish of my daughter and the child was getting tired of it. To make this short, one day we had a talk, and I told her this was her dream, and not really what her child wanted or needed, besides that she had other children who needed her attention. Shortly after that it all came to an end, and this child was much happier. Today she is an emergency room nurse in a hospital in PA - just as beautiful as she was as a child, and I am so proud of her. All the pageant trophies are
still at her Mom's house, and there are many of them. She never even bothered to take them with her when she married and bought her own home.

This reminds me of a friend of mine in High School, from the time that she was very little, her mom entered her in every pageant that was available. She was so beautiful....and she won them all. She had over 200 first place trophies. When she married, I went over to her new home..and the first thing that I asked was.."Where are all of your trophies?" And she said..."I am going to leave them at my mom's, because in my opinion...they belong to HER anyway". She always strived to be perfect, she felt like she was never good enough. Her marriage failed, and she ended up dead, when her druggie boyfriend shot her in the face. Such a terrible waste.

Maybe so.

You know, that's the kind of hook I need! Excellent. No, better yet: I'll put a "teaser" in the intro. That way, it will really whet the reader's appetite.

That's quite a story. At least it had a happy ending. Maybe if someone had the talk with JB's mother, this whole ugly thing might not have occured. But then, PR was never allowed to be a kid either, to my way of thinking.

JB was nothing more than a dress up doll, to Patsy.

But that's all SHE was to her mother! She just didn't know any better. Nedra's the real villain, in my view.

I have to agree with that. Have you ever seen the cover of Doc Miller's book..the picture that his wife took of JB, Burke, Patsy ad Nedra. Nedra looks like a drill sargeant. I have often wondered too..if Patsy was sexually abused by her own father. Which...by the way...JB was their grand-daughter...I never saw not one show...where they spoke out and asked the public for help in finding their grand-daughter's killer. I find that odd.

For my money, that picture tells the whole story. See, that's what I meant when I said that Patsy's mind had been warped from an early age. Her mother taught her that if she wasn't the best, she was worthless. And JB, an innocent little girl had to pay the price for Nedra's dream. JB and Patsy paid that price.

I have often wondered too..if Patsy was sexually abused by her own father.

I hate to say it, but I think so. I have nothing solid, mind you. Just the little man inside my gut. But if she was, and her mother wouldn't protect her, I often wonder: when Patsy struck out at JB that night, who did she strike at? Her daughter, or her demons?

Which...by the way...JB was their grand-daughter...I never saw not one show...where they spoke out and asked the public for help in finding their grand-daughter's killer. I find that odd.

Very odd.

Didn't JBR say this very thing to one of her friends? I think it may have been Judith Miller's daughter, wasn't it?
She said something about her trophies on the order of "they really belong to my mom".

Very odd.

Yes, it was. Other than Nedra's also extremely odd comment about JBR being "only a little bit molested", I don't recall reading anywhere that she (OR her husband) ever said another word about their grand-daughter or her murder.
That comment is what made me believe that a "little bit of molestation" was par for the course in that family and nothing to get too excited about.

I was thinking the same thing.

Just to play devil's advocate on the "little bit molested" comment, I have always held a more compassionate view on that comment. Nedra is of a different generation, one which cannot speak openly or graphically about matters related to sexuality or sexual crime. Just as many women will use cute or evasive names for body parts (my own mother refers to an area called "down there") I think Nedra said "only a little bit molested" because she was not able to say more explicitly "She was not raped" or "full intercourse did not take place". I will give Nedra a pass, as a gentille southern grandma, unable to utter the exact clinical terminology of her granddaughter's assault. I think she has really been beat up over the unfortunate choice of words, and way too much has been read into it.

imho, of course....

This is just a guess, but I imagine that the way Toltec probably phrased it, it wouldn't have occured to her unless asked specifically.

You are correct SD....I didn't ask the accident question...I could kick myself for that.

When JonBenet died...It was Pam and Polly who flew to Boulder to be with Patsy....NOT mommy and daddy!

When PR was undergoing cancer treatment, I know Nedra stayed at the home in Boulder. Didn't Grandpa stay there too? Makes me wonder if he had done anything sexual to JB. If he's do it to his own Daughter, I don't think he would hesitate to do it to his GD.

I don't think so Nedra was quit rude & crude ,remember she was the one that talked about Burk's manhood parts being huge ,& she did not use those gentille words ,she shocked the office workers who heard her comnents .

My niece was not a lot idfferent She was in dance an compietition since she was about 3 and grew into a child model then did modeling and was in pageents by her young teens and while it was all so glamorus she got into this weight thing where she started taking drugs by the time she was 16 or maybe even before wanted to dropout of school to pursue her career . Had it not been for her boy friend and later on husband I think wed of lost the battle then. Ultimately they divorced and she is back in that life. Its all about the looks and the glamour. She is a mom but still does the modeling thing its great money and a lifestyle that she could not let go of. Thank heavens though she got rid of the drugs she is a strict vegan now and I wont argue with that . She will always be beautiful Head turning beautifl and she knows it.

I don't know if he was there, but Patsy remarked that John couldn't have been doing it because "Grandma" was there. Makes you wonder why "Grandma" had to play guard dog, doesn't it?

Ames, your friend sought love in all the wrong places. You have to wonder if Patsy did, too. She HAD to know what kind of man she was marrying. Maybe she figured she didn't deserve any better.

Just spitballing.

I don't know, it does seem like I read that somewhere before. Weren't the trophies in Patsy's bedroom or something...and the little friend (maybe it WAS Judith's daughter) asked her why they were in her mom's room, instead of hers? Or something like that. That friend of mine that was in pageants..I remember her mom bragging to me that her daughter had a storage unit full of more trophies, fake roses (that they give to the winner), and red robes (that some pageants place around the winners neck....like a Queen would wear). I said..."OH, really...that's nice". What else COULD I say?
