The weather here is really working against them finding more evidence...We have wind and rain storms...really gusty.

Feithen speaking --
remains had to be examined, both in-state and out-of-state.

remains found Oct 16 - let people know as soon as they knew they were human remains

  • #263
the remains and her belongings were found in the general close area

  • #264
is a secluded park area, there are a dozen sites where campfires built. It's not unusual for nearby residents to smell smoke

heavily used park. Used by citizens, students and also get transients

  • #265
Feithen asked about letting public know sooner & repeated they didn't confirm human remains until Saturday.

First item belonging to her was found Oct. 16, we believe

Had we indicated to family or public that those were human remains, and they turned out to be animal remains, we couldn't do that.

  • #266
some of the belongings clothing and stuff she had "some" were found with the remains on 16th but didnt know they were human remains until saturday.
they didn't want to say anything if they turned out to be animal remains

Feithen --

Park not blocked off sooner because remains not identified as human...isolated the park as soon as we felt necessary

have no indication that this is anything other than an isolated incident.

  • #268
Feithen saying he made no "no foul play suspected" statement on Oct.18 when NIU police made their statement

Feithen asked Is there a predator out there - could this happen again? Answers, homicides happen everywhere

  • #269
the press is being hard on him imo

  • #270
  • #271
they are not in custody

  • #272
Buettner asked given what you now know, could something more have been done sooner

(WTH did they want done! JMOO)

Buettner -
It is a very complex case. The information that we have been given, tried to take prudent steps to address concerns.... all waiting to find out. We have confidence in our law enforcement....have to be patient as community

  • #273
you can tell that the press is upset that they feel like law enforcement did not take earlier steps in letting the public know the safety concerns in the first few days

  • #274
im thinking since the clothes n belongings were close but not with the remains..and the facts that they can identify her clothing and the remains were burned i would think she was sexually assaulted, i cant believe someone would do this...its probably worse for the family bc the remains are in such terrible conditions they didnt even know they were human

  • #275
Feithen speaking now, talking about FBI & ISP providing support resources...continue to get leads & interview people, investigators very busy

  • #276
TexasMist and italianangel, thank you for the updates.

I'm at a loss for words.
Toni's family and friends are in my prayers.....

I don't blame LE for waiting... I'm just at a loss that it took 7 days to determine the remains found are human remains.
Whoever did this is one sick SOB and it's a shame our justice system doesn't allow an eye for an eye.......

I'm keeping LE working this case in my prayers too. May they find what they need and the perp swiftly.

Wow, just wow........

  • #277
interesting that they find clothing near the "remains" that match what she was last wearing but wait to cordon off the area for all that time????

  • #278
Feithen says no to Sue Olsen, mom of missing Maple Park man Bradley Olsen who asked if LE thought that the remains might be another person.

Feithen says again they didn't tell Keller family about bones until they confirmed were human on Saturday...more LE in the park & DeKalb PD, NIU, County and ISP have stepped up patrols.

Thanks to those of you who took the time to translate the press conference, very much appreciated.

What a sick, sick predator this turns out to be. Destroys the body of this beautiful young girl. Seems so strange that there was no odor noticed by those around - a burning body will cause tears, crying, it smells horrible.

Time to look for other MO's that may be similar. Can't imagine the pain this family is enduring.

Feithen asked why did NIU have investigation first and not turn over to DeKalb Police? answers that NIU began search for Toni immediately. We had officers involved in search the following day. They brought tracking dogs in

Farrell asking for patience-LE working round the clock...

Feithen says it's a homicide investigation..haven't announced arrest...Somewhere there is someone who did this. I am outraged
