GUILTY IL - Antinette 'Toni' Keller, 18, DeKalb, NIU Student, 14 October 2010

  • #41
I have told every young person I know -- particularly highschool and college age -- never to walk alone in the woods -- never leave a bar alone at night -- don't leave parties drunk at 2:00AM -- the kids feel that nothing will ever happen -- and isn't it tragic that a person can't take a walk alone on a path, without fearing something awful will happen.......I'm deeply concerned for her and have been since I learned about this....the dogs will trace her scent....or, I guess they already have...

why, oh why.....

Yes, I agree. It is tragic that you can't go anywhere without thinking about who may be watching you. No matter what age you are you have be aware of your surroundings. You should never walk alone on trails surrounded by brush, trees, where nobody can see if something were to happen. You would think a public park or trail would be safe in broad daylight, but you can't assume that. Look what happened to Chelsea King when she went jogging in a public park. I am not saying anyone abducted this girl. Nobody really knows yet. I hope and pray she is unharmed and returns to college.

According to the Northern Star (school newspaper) K-9 units were dispatched from her dorm and didn't follow a trail to the wooded area and the dogs stopped tracking when they got close to I-88. I don't know what that means but as stated earlier from several people her Key was found. The keys are easy to lose though because it's basically just a key that they give you.

BBM (bolded by me)

Live in Chicago and know a little about the area of DeKalb (not much) and I88. I88 (East-West Tollway) is a tollway that runs past DeKalb and runs East * West. Going East one can get to downtown Chicago and/or catch other expressways to the northern and southern suburbs. To get through the tolls, one has to have an Ipass on the windshield or pay at a booth. There are cameras at both.

Don't know how far I88 is from the trail Antinette was on. but DeKalb, in general, is sort of isolated, surrounded by cornfields, small bodies of water. It is a thriving college town but not a huge one. Tried to clarify I88 just a little bit.

Antinette and her professional camera have gone missing, dorm key found on trail, and art portfolio found in room. Any word on her cell phone? :blowkiss: to students at NIU and to her family for helping Antionette come home. Hope this all ends soon. moo

I know this article has been posted, but just bringing a
new snip... from it..
...
Also on Wednesday, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children listed Keller on its website, www.missingkids.com. In the posting, the center says Keller may still be in the DeKalb area, or may have traveled to California.

"Antinette was last seen on October 14, 2010. She may still be in the local area or she may travel to California," the posting reads. "Antinette was last seen wearing a grey or green sweater and blue jeans. She has a sunflower tattoo on her upper right chest and her nose is pierced. Antinette may go by the nickname Toni."

bbm:
traveled to California?

Thanks for that info. Travel to California??? That sure would explain the lack of media coverage here in the Chicago area. Wonder who they think she may be visiting? moo

Traveled to California.:waitasec: That is new info to me. Thanks for sharing. That doesn't sound believable, but I guess we don't have all the facts. It doesn't make sense that her phone wouldn't be turned on for almost a week though, whether she traveled or not.

Toni strikes me as a girl who is close to her family. I would be surprised if she traveled to California without informing them. They seem fairly distraught.

  • #47
I pray that Antinette is found soon! Is there any truth in the missing kids website that says she may be heading to CA? First I heard of that.

  • #48
Cali, huh....my guess is that she's talked about always wanting to go there or knows people there. They probably don't know where else to look since all they've found of her was her key.

It would make sense though, to me at least, that if she were to run away that she would take her camera, but why would she leave her portfolio? All that hard work just to leave it behind?

  • #49
Traveled to California? Then why was her dorm key found in the woods? I hope they have more than hearsay for that statement. :(

Traveling to California...that is the first I've heard of it, too. As far as I know, we haven't heard (so far) anything at all about possibly traveling to California.

She seems like she had a good relationship with her family, so I can't imagine her just taking off to California (and dropping her dorm key in a wooded area) without telling anyone in her friends/family circle here. Stranger things have happened, of course, but I just don't know...

6:00P local Chicago news ended with the information that the members of Antinette's family are frantically looking for leads/information as to where their daughter is. Then we heard: Details tonight at 10P. I know there are political debates using up media time here in Illinois tonight, but geeeze, how about giving some time to a missing NIU college student/daughter and loved one to many. Didn't sound at all like she had taken off for California. Have to wait 'till 10p news. moo mho

On NBC Chicago, 10pm news, Wednesday...there was a phone interview with Antinette's dad:

1. Antinette's mom was so distraught when hearing about her daughter missing, she was hospitalized. Mom has been released from hospital at this time.

2. Dad is desperate for leads and thanks everyone for their their donation of time to help find his daughter.

3. NBC says that Antinette lost a dorm key couple weeks ago and LE are not sure how big of a lead finding her key in the woods really is. May be the one she lost earlier.

4. Dad says his daughter loves NIU, loves college, is a happy girl and would NEVER run away. He is SURE of it. Encourages anyone with information to contact LE. He is extremely grateful for the support and help.

My words: Tomorrow will be one week. I can imagine the fear of those on campus. If a predator, he could be anywhere, staff, student, on I88 and going anywhere. Hope they find this beautiful girl soon. moo mho

Hugs to the mom and family. I can't imagine what the family is going through. I just pray that LE has more to go on than they are releasing to the public. Somebody had to see something. Somebody can't just disappear without a trace.

Police say there is no evidence to suggest either that Keller had left on her own accord or had been the victim of foul play. Police said they continue to conduct interviews and follow up on leads. Keller's cell phone hasn't been active since early Thursday; police said they call it hourly, but believe it has been turned off.

*snip*
He referred questions as to why police believe she may have gone to California to NIU police.
Smith said the only place he has heard of a possible California link was the flier from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, and that he is not sure where that information came from.

In an interview dad said his daughter loves NIU, is a happy girl, and would NEVER run away. Not sure why her running away to California is still in print.

LE calls her cell phone every hour, why not trace the pings? Antinette has been missing one week today - seems they better get the facts straight and find this beautiful girl. Continuing the false information that she ran away to California is preposterous in light of what her dad has adamantly said. Why isn't the media involved? moo mho

Antinette was on the WGN 12 Chicago news very briefly. Haven't heard anything new today.

This is awful. Was she suffering from depression?

From my understanding of cellular phones, there is no cell tower ping unless the phone is turned on. If the phone is turned off, it can not search for a cell tower to ping off. Her phone has been turned off since last Thursday. I don't know where the California information came from even. I don't believe it. Personally, I don't think LE has a clue what happened to her, but they aren't going to admit that for good reason. At this point, all we can do is pray for some evidence to turn up or for someone to come forward.
