I'm interested to why her roommate didn't notice her not being in bed or in the dorm the night of Oct 14th, the first anyone noticed her missing was the afternoon of Oct 15th. didn't Toni have a roommate? why didn't anyone first go to the park the night of Oct 14th to look for her? was Toni texting or talking to anyone from 11:30am to anytime in the afternoon of Oct 14th. I heard her phone was off so they couldn't get a ping or something early on. this guy that stated on the facebook that he was suppose to meet up with her that afternoon, I wonder why he didn't go look for her.

Toni's mother is completely distraught as anyone would be, she is currently still in the hospital. She has been hospitalized since she heard her daughter disappeared. I can't imagine the pain she is enduring. Prayers to her and Toni's family.

I was wondering about students partying out there. Students having bon fires, drinking and wild sex. Has any of that ever been reported before in this area of the park?

I'm sure that probably happens but Toni went missing mid-day. But, get this,
I was snooping around and I came across one of her friends ms pages and under interests it lists, Guitars . . . Photography . . . and the last thing listed is Bonfires. !!!!!!!!

I checked out the music and it's mostly metalcore, heavy metal, thrash metal, melodic hardcore, progressive deathcore and metal. Music with super dark tones and music that promises that it will "take you on a very dark journey".

I think the music people listen to tells you a lot about them but I would never conclude anything (especially with someone as young as 18 or 19) based on their music preferences.

From what I understand, Toni liked Pink Floyd and The Beatles (Here Comes the Sun) and probably was exposed to other stuff. I just hope she didn't get in over her head with some weirdo that was posing as 'cool'.

I reside less than 5 minutes from Prairie Park and it's creepy but sad....I was informed that there has been other burned and slained bodies fround recently...I got this from a very reliable source who is associated with school districts therefore I believe it to be true....I also was informed that there has been a burned body of a possible 4 year old in Malta discovered in the last couple of days...I myself have seen more police officials in those two areas....I hope they figure out who is doing what and why and catch that sick perp....Oh also majority of the victims are female....A good friend of mine said she heard on a radio station that police found a body that had been sliced up so this for sure is true or it wouldn't be on a radio station...All I have to say is if you're traveling or reside in Dekalb to be safe and make sure you have your children safe as well....I've been following this website for the last week and felt the need to sign up so I can post the information I heard and know...I drove past the park today and there were numerous officials there including:fire trucks, coronors, police, ambulances and diggers... I hope this helps everyone....

I don't know why, but I just thought of Taylor (cannot recall her last name at the moment) the freshman in Virginia who was murdered a few years ago by that 38-yr old creep who hung around the college and tried to be cool and she got sucked in...he pretended to be a photographer or something. Taylor Biehls, spelling may be wrong. But this case just made me think about her, and her devastated mom.

I felt the need to register because there is a strange bit of information that I haven't seen posted and I can't get over the unbelievable odds against it being a coincidence. I know the police have said they believe it to be an isolated event and only in the park, but:

By 1 p.m. Saturday, search dogs were assisting in the search. The dogs picked up Keller's scent in her room and followed a path that disappeared near First Street and Fairview Drive.
The path was checked several times with different dogs to make sure they were sticking with her trail, Grady said. He said it appeared she went for a walk, but did not go to the park as she had planned.




I'm not trying to start any rumors or make any assertions, but that is unbelievably creepy and I can't get over it. Just pointing it out.

From reading the article and checking google for an obituary, it appears that this man... who I will not name... could have been a suicide.
That is one of the requests from his family.
I can only hope the police are very sure of what happened to him.

Sorry, I didn't mean to leave out the cause of death. Regardless of what the cause of death is though, these two cases are only 2 weeks apart and the dogs lost Toni's scent at the same spot that this man was found. Not to mention, the intersection of Fairview and First Street is south of the park, meaning she would have walked right past it.

I am glad that you pointed out that coincidence. In the press conference Feithen said that their efforts included "tracking, cadaver and arson dogs".

I suspect the odors remaining from the earlier deceased student were what attracted the dogs. I don't believe the type of dog search discipline was reported (or accurately reported) and that it was cadaver dogs and not tracking dogs that went to 1st St & Fairview Dr.

It was interesting to read that there were also arson dogs. I wonder if an accelerant was found.

Hmmm, good point. Maybe it was a team of the various dogs. It is quite a long way from the dorm to Fairview and First, I would guess around two miles. I don't know much about tracking dogs, but I would think the tracking dogs had to have followed the trail for a while and then the cadaver dogs got pulled off the trail onto the cadaver scent? That would make sense.

Well I just read above that LE found these bones the day following Toni being reported as missing. So from what we know, she went missing around noon on the 14th, was reported missing on the 15th, and these bones were discovered in the park on the 16th. I don't see how this perp acted so quickly because we know how hot a fire must be to burn a body beyond recognition and also the smell that would ensue.

We need a profiler....

While trying to find some info I ran across this paper regarding the study of profilers. I read the whole paper, it's not too long, hoping it would say something specific regarding the kind of killer who might burn a body, but it doesn't. Still I found the contents interesting.

I see that 1st and Fairview Drive is located at the SE end of the area called Prairie Park. Is that near the disc golf place? I see there is a large cemetary right there on the corner. Could that in any way confuse dogs?

This is the same corner that someone reported to the police that they may have seen Toni wandering around looking dazed. Later, after examining her picture, he wasn't so sure it had been her.

If Toni did walk down to Fairview Drive, along 1st Street, I wonder why. The dogs did not indicate she had entered the park.

I'm confused as to the official spot where someone says they last saw her. I read somewhere 1st and Franklin yet another report indicated that she was seen SW of campus near the Elk's Lodge as if heading into the park. :waitasec:

I also noticed that in the very first interview one of her friends said that Toni stated she was going to take a walk to capture photographs (nothing specifically about Prairie Park). After that it was always reported that she said she was going to the park. Someone also said that she had returned to her dorm room first before embarking on her walk. How can anyone figure out exactly where she was accosted?

Keller, 18, was last seen about noon Oct. 14 at her residence hall on Lucinda Avenue. Friends told police the freshman art student had planned to take a walk in an area adjacent to West Lincoln Highway behind the Junction Center retail complex.

...Wednesday evening report of a woman who might have matched Keller’s description possibly wandering dazed near Route 38 and Nelson Road resulted in immediate mobilization. Searches by city, county and NIU officers found nothing.

Route 38 and Nelson Rd are significantly west of the park.

Also, in reference to the coincidences...there was a young man named Bradley Olsen who disappeared in 2007 -- last seen leaving Bar One located on Lincoln Highway, across from Prarie Park. He has never been found.

If you walk that path, especially along the train tracks, there are numerous signs of past fires. Also, these areas are quite far from any house and usually border the train tracks that run along the northern edge of the Park. It is a busy rail with trains coming from both directions at varying speeds. Needless to say, this area can range from being quiet when the tracks are empty to quite loud when a large train rumbles by.

has anyone on this board been to that park? if so, where are the fire pits to make fires? is it usually busy where they are located?

Prairie Park is several parks in one. There is an open grassy field with a few trees sprinkled about where the main entrance is. Take the path and you will head north directly towards the train tracks, crossing over the small river on one of a few bridges, then past a more dense cop of trees before turning west. It is here, with 10' high train embankment to your right (north) edged with heavy brush about 8-10' high between the tracks and the path and with trees on both sides of the path that you follow the tracks west. There are little footmade paths etching the ground bare that lead you to some open areas by the tracks (and also into the trees that are quite isolated and pretty) that are concealed from the path by the lower brush. You will find most of the firepits, just a few feet from the path next to the train tracks, but otherwise quite secluded. As you head west, the trees grow thicker until there is a prominent path taking you up and over the tracks to the Junction Center. After this, the path veers south and the Park begins to become more prairie with reeds and grasses growing alongside the river, which also curves south.
