I think it is an excellent idea Sunnie RN. Somewhere I have a list of Chicago area journalists who have written crime stories. The journalist who last wrote about Debbies case is no longer with that paper and we were unable to track to see if he is with another paper.

We would definately want the Daily Herald which is the bigger paper for the FW burbs and the Tribune if we could get both interested.

Thanks Sunnie. I am always hoping to get feedback from Debbies family prior to pushing for any kind of media attention. I have some business which will have me in the courthouse (civil stuff) over the next few months so I am hoping to maybe do a drop in and at least say hello to detectives working on Debbies case.

I found an old neighbor of LS's who is in her 80's IIRC and part of a local historical society but I would feel very odd contacting her..... I should, if for nothing else other than to let her know Debbies case is still not solved and a group of us are working on it. I know I could have someone 'notarize' a letter from me.... and she would likely recognize the business name from which the notary came.

who knows. If I don't try we will never know.

Maybe she would be willing..... Maybe if they have a meeting I will go visit in person... it would only be a 15 min drive or so at most. I should do that before that time runs out. Especially since so many LE and ME who were originally on this case are long gone.

I think I will.... once school starts next week for the kiddo.....

and no one came through with the pictures....

If nothing else I will go get a cheapo disposable and get one of those kodak disks to upload pics. They will be better than nothing.

For you Debbie! You are not nor will you ever be forgotten!

That is Debbies school. Though with it being 44 years I doubt any current faculty was there 44 years ago. They'd likely all be of retirement age now. Debbie was only a Benjaman student for 1.5 years. 4th and half of 5th until she was murdered. A few of her former classmates have found us here and are aware of her thread here at WS.

Cubby, in another thread, someone suggested writing the mayor and other officials from the town in which a murder had occured. Could you possibly pm me the addresses/email addresses, of city/state officials in your area? Thank you so much!!

Debbies case, like John Spiras case are in unincorporated jurisdiction so while the county has a population of more than a million, the folks who solely rely on DPCS are about 100,000 IIRC.

While decades apart, two semi high profile unsolved cases John Spira and Debbie's in DuPage which are less than a 5 min drive apart. Maybe only a 3 min drive apart....

Commander Mark Edwalds - who answers the phone. Lots of media with his name going back to 85 or earlier.... but he has been re-assigned.

and Detective Harris is working Debbies case last I knew.

Me too. Or I wish we'd be pleasantly surprised with an updated media article stating an arrest has been made.

It's so hard for us waiting. No doubt it is much much harder for Debbies family waiting.

The waiting for me is sometimes like the anxiety of a playoff baseball game... the nail biting and one just wants it over, or in my case sometimes I turn the tv off because I can't stand to look. I will never ever give up on Debbies case. I pray daily LE finds the answers to arrest and convict the person responsible for Debbies murder. It will happen, just a matter of when.

I'd be happy if local law enforcement would throw us a bone...Either they have something new, new leads or ideas or whatever, or they don't. It's not like there's been a lot of movement in the case in the last 40 years--I think we've accomplished more in the past few months than has been done on the case since the months following Debbie's murder.

Another of Debbies classmates has found her facebook memorial group.

He posted in the discussion area he and another classmate where likely the last two students to see Debbie while she was waiting on the swings. He states the two asked Debbie to walk home with them and she declined saying she was waiting for Mr. Schofield. (paraphrased for TOS. I'm not sure if this was previously posted, but there is also a class photo from the class Debbie attended when LS was her teacher the year before. Grade 4-5 64/65 school year. With Debbie and LS's pictures. Debbie is on the top row far right.

It would be great if classemates, friends, neighbors, etc.. of Debbie came forward and contacted LE...maybe then we would see more progress in this case.

Through reading threads on websleuths, I have been struck by the amount of times eye witness testimony by children is ignored or brushed aside. This is a significant piece of information.

Some other cases noted for this is Michaela Garrects friend who witnessed the kidnapping, the children on the school bus who saw Jaycee Dugards kidnapping, yet LE focused on Carl during the investigation.

I know there are others, but I wonder how many would have been solved if LE had questioned and listened to the children involved?

Normally I would say this is a dumb question but we all know how things fall through the cracks. Have LE talked to these kid-witnesses back then? Have they today? I really hope so.

Yes, some of Debbies classmates were interviewed in 1966. I do not know by name who was interviewed in 1966, but I know LE is reinterviewing witnesses again as part of the current investigation since this case has been officially re-opened.
