I was at the courthouse today. I sure wish I was there for the start of a trial to bring the person responsible for murdering Debbie to justice.

49 years is too long.

Keeping the Fijan family and Debbie's friends in our prayers.

A few days ago, I was trying to find some additional information within the DPCSO "site" relating to DF, and found the "Victim Services, Special Victims Unit" (unsolved murder cases). There are 12 cases shown, with Debbie's case being the oldest (UNSOLVED, since 02/11/66). The most recent case was solved in 2003. Out of the 12 reported cases within this site, only 2 have been solved. Most likely, this site is "old", many WS members may have seen/read this information before, and I have no idea how often this site is updated. Many of you, when reading this post might be asking the question: "And your point is?" I found out on Saturday morning, 02/12/66, that Debbie had been murdered the night before. I was obviously too young at that time to know all the specifics. Unfortunately, I have grown more and more pessimistic with each passing year that Debbie's case will be solved. Yes, I'm frustrated and Yes, I'm "venting"! NO!!, I have no intention of giving up on Debbie, her family, and the justice they deserve.

Thank you Cubby for the information. I'm sure her family was was very grateful to have some sort of "closure", even after 30+ years.

Dittos Cubby. I would be there for the trial. I'm sure that you, other WS members, family members of the Fijan family, and friends of Debbie's would also be there. The "clock is ticking", and too many years have gone by. There would be one, glaring difference if and when this trial begins. There wouldn't be as much support and/or "influence" from the "primary" suspect's family (i.e. JS, E(K)S, MaS, Robert C., etc., etc.). Support might not even be present.

This post was in response to Cubby's post on 02/11/15 above. I had difficulty with my post.

"It's not what you know, but who you know". Every time I hear this phrase, it makes me think of all the suspects that got off - Ted "leave the scene" Kennedy, OJ, LS. George K., LS's maternal grandfather owned a great deal of land in Wayne Township as most of you know. He died before Debbie's death, and his estate file #16230, was still listed with the DuPage County Court - Probate, the last time I checked. I do not know if it still exists, and whether or not it is still available to look at through an "open records" request. I continue to wonder, and question whether or not "the paths" of 3 individuals ever crossed before or after Debbie's death. The individuals are: LS, RC (LS's attorney), and JF. All 3 of these individuals were within 3 years of each other. JF was the son of the first Judge in the "hearing" that was dismissed (he signed search warrant), JF attended Marmian in Aurora, and was ordained as a Priest in 1964. RC who represented LS was a trustee at Marmian, but I do not know what year(s). Is it possible that "Judge F" could have been dismissed for reasons other than signing a search warrant? Could LS have "confided" and/or confessed to JF shortly after Debbie's death? I would be curious to know what, if any, donations or contributions were given by George K. (church, political, etc.) when he was living, or even when he died (mid 50's?). Unfortunately, all the individuals that I've mention in this post are dead, with the exception of LS(?).

George M. Klein, LS's maternal grandfather, died in 1953 at the age of 82.

One in a quadrillion odds. When I heard that on the news recently, I needed to check and see how many zeros that is. It's 1 plus 15 zeros. Forensics just determined that Aaron Hernandez's DNA was found on a cigarette at the crime scene. Aaron H., formerly with the NE Patriots, is currently on trial for murder; however, I don't know much about the trial. It's very unfortunate that the forensics back in 1966 weren't as advanced as they are today. I think the DPCSO has a sample of Debbie's hair, but I have no idea what, if anything the DPCSO has from "other suspect(s)". Is the DPCSO willing to spend <$7,500 to send 2 detectives out, within a 600 mile radius of Chicago, to "trail" an individual to collect some DNA? My rough $7,500 figure = 2 round-trip airline tickets out of O'Hare, car rental x 5 days, Hotel (2 rooms x 4 nights), $100/day x 2 per diem, plus their weekly salary (guesstimate, maybe low). Is Debbie's case closed? Is the DPCSO pursuing anyone? Debbie and her family deserve this.

I just recently heard that there has been a break in the 25 yr. old cold case in the Fond du Lac, Wisconsin area (Berit Beck). It appears that an arrest will be made in the very near future. This would be the second cold case solved in Wisconsin in the last year. That has to be good news for the families that had been waiting for so long. I hope that the detectives in Illinois/DuPage County have been following these cases. Maybe there is something that they can gain/learn from the WI cold cases in solving Debbie's case. Praying for Debbie.

The Chicago Tribune articles can now be read online. I can't pull up the link, but the site is archives.chicagotribune.com

All of the articles on Debbie's case through the CT can be read there......

I still have questions about LS' odd tales when interviewed by police. I wish he would man up and clarify his story. Why the lies about the route home and why did he tell LE he could have done it, that he was sick and needed help? (links to those statements in msm articles at the archived chicago tribune site).

I'd also like to know what time the college student neighbor arrived home from college that weekend? Did he arrive before or after Debbie was last seen at Benjamin School?

Also, I seem to recall something about LS having some scratches on his hands after Debbies murder. Does anyone who knew Debbie and is following this case here recall those scratches? And how they may have been accounted for?

AFAIK they are still working on the case. Debbie's case was chosen for he DPC web page because they believe it is solvable.

One thing which has come to mind, recently there have been several cold cases solved due to friends coming forward with tips or inquiries. Someone has the piece of the puzzle that will pull this case together and solve it. No tip is too small! Tip line at following link: http://www.dupagesheriff.org/victimservices/152/

The initial attorney that met with LS was D. Spesia, who supposedly was a family friend (see/refer to the Chicago Tribune Archives referenced above - "Seek Knife in Debbie Death", 02/16/66). Eventually, Atty. R. Chapski represented LS, and became a trustee at Marmion Academy. Judge Fitzgerald (initial Judge) was asked to be removed because he signed search warrant (see previous posts). Judge Fitzgerald's son James was appointed a Bishop in 2002. Three of the four individuals knew each other when they were very "young" in 1966. R. Chapski would have been 30, LS would have been 27, and D. Spesia would have been 26. J. Fitzgerald would have been 28. If I was ever accused of killing someone, I personally, would want an Attorney with more than 5 years of experience. Could any of these 4 individuals (and/or their families) be linked by another "thread" (e.g. church, Pontifical College Josephinum where LS attended for a short time, Quincy - LS graduated in 1962, Marmion, Joliet Diocese, etc.). I'm just "throwing this out there".

I thought LS went to hs in Elgin?

You are correct Cubby. I believe LS graduated from St. Edward's HS (Elgin) in 1956. He attended the Pontifical College Josephinum (Ohio) for a short time after HS, before "transferring" to Quincy. LS graduated from Quincy in 1962, and started teaching at Benjamin School in September of 1964. On a separate note (irrelevant?), "Disgraced" Cardinal Bernard F Law attended Pontifical College Josephinum between 1955 - 1961.

Bump for Debbie

This is probably premature, but I wanted to remind everyone about two upcoming dates: 1) Debbie's birthday would have been this November 16th, and she would have been 60. I apologize if this is incorrect. 2) It will be 50 years on 02/11/16 that Debbie has been gone. A day has not gone by for many years that I haven't thought about Debbie and the short time we shared at Benjamin; but more importantly, why her killer hasn't been caught and convicted. It continues to make me both sad, and angry. Does anyone think it would be worthwhile to contact any of the Newspapers (regional, local, etc.) to see if they might be willing to "write" an article about Debbie's unsolved case, close to the anniversary of her death; although I don't like referring to it as an anniversary. There are many people that want this solved. If anyone has any ideas, or has friends that work at the Daily Herald, Trib., etc., please advise.
