Maybe Cubby can confirm this, but yes, Debbie's mother gave a hair brush of Debbie's to the DPCSO quite a few years ago. Her parents were living in Fla. at the time. Sadly, forensic science/DNA testing back in the 1960's was in its infancy, and most of us that have followed Debbie's case know that LS's wife MAS burned LS's clothes the night Debbie was found, or on Saturday, the day after. Obviously, any forensic testing (i.e. Debbie's fingernails) at that time was non-existent; lucky for the suspect. I have no idea what, if anything, DPCSO has from LS, or other relatives.

What an odd thing to do if you claim innocence so soon after an acquaintance is murdered. MOO

DuPage County IL Sheriff Official Website - Unsolved Murders

These cases have been selected because our investigators believe that they can be solved - with the help of forensic science and the community.

If you have any information regarding any of these cases, please call the Sheriff's Office at 630.407.2400 and ask for the Cold Case Unit. You may also e-mail the unit.

Last heard, Detective TW from the DPCSO was still involved with Debbie's case. Not sure about other Detectives.

I met with TW some time ago to hand deliver some potential evidence for this case. For obvious reasons, I can't say what that evidence is due to the possibility it could jeaprodize solving this case.

I do hope those who may have been afraid to or previously threatened not to,come forward will do so now. As it is unlikely to make it to trial. so no worries about about having to face anyone hell bent on denying justice for Debbie.

All it takes is one person to make that call to LE and hopefully resolve the case. No tip is too small.

Hi everyone,

I am Debbie's nephew (my mother is her sister). Just looked through all this, and I just wanted to say all your efforts are absolutely astounding and much appreciated.

Thank you

Hello Zachman, I hope that you still occasionally visit Debbie's site. I recently reached out to your Uncle J. via his wife's email in an effort to obtain any contact information he could provide for me on your mother S./L,, Aunt S./L., and Uncle B. To date, I have not heard back from J or D. If you get/read this post, J & D have my contact information. I have no objection to them providing your Mother that information; unless my correspondence with them has been deleted/not read(?). I look forward to hearing from your Mom VIA EMAIL if she obtains my contact info. from her brother J. Jr.

Hope all is well with your families, and thank you for everyone's time and consideration.

OK guys, this is going to blow your mind as much as it blew my mind.

I happened to meet someone who lived in the immediate area of where Debbie was found off of Lies, who was around back then and remembers people looking for Debbie.

I'm not going to divulge any identifying information, or pry.....but I am going to invite this person here to the discussion about Debbie's case. I don't know if this person will join or not, but I will extend the invite.

I honestly couldn't believe it. What are the odds of me running into someone who lived in the immediate area 52 years later who is still living and recalls the search? And for that reason, I am not going to buy a power ball or mega millions tickets for tonights drawing. If I'm going to have any good odds, I want it to be to solve this case.

I'm sure Cubby that your encounter with this individual was a complete shock. WOW!! I knew personally that Debbie had gone missing after school that Friday night, but I didn't find out until the next morning Saturday that she had been murdered. I also, would reiterate your invitation for "this person" that you met to join the WS discussion on Debbie. I keep thinking that individuals might be willing to "open up" a bit more, given LS's death this past June; however, and understandably, it seems like interest in Debbie's WS site/discussion has waned the past 6-8 months. Someone, somewhere knows something. Thanks for sharing Cubby, and thank you to this individual that shared with you. Please join us.

I extended the invite, but this person, who is a few years older than LS, isn't online. I did ask about any rumors s/he may have heard about this case and there weren't any.

If anything more happens I'll keep everyone posted.

I can understand completely - the online part. I'm still one of those "smart phone-less" individuals.

That "window" of time seems to be closing. To think that LS was only 27 when Debbie was murdered. At the time, he was probably one of the youngest, if not the youngest teachers (of mine) at Benjamin. So many of his co-workers/friends that knew him, along with his parents and some of his siblings are no longer living, or are like the individual you described above (in their 80's?).

"Some people touch our lives only briefly, while others leave a lasting impression and are never forgotten".

Thinking of Debbie today on her birthday, and the short friendship we shared.

Looking for Advice, or a referral to a good Therapist (tongue in cheek):

As some of you might know, Debbie does not have a grave marker where she is buried; although she is buried next to her maternal grandparents Bert (1917-1996) & Alma (1915-2014) J. Permission was recently given by a maternal Aunt to have a grass marker made for Debbie. These markers are 12" x 24" x 4". In no way do I want to disrespect any decisions that were made by Debbie's parents back in Feb./1966. I've reached out to former classmates/students that knew Debbie in the 1960's regarding donations for this marker, and would do the same for people that have followed this site if there is enough support in doing this. To date, I have not heard back from any former classmates/students that personally knew Debbie.

HPIM2278.JPG Any comments, suggestions, ideas, for/against this would be greatly appreciated.

I think it's a great idea. Have you thought of a go fund me page?

  • #874
I agree that a GoFundMe page might be a fantastic tool for this project! :D

Thank you Cubby & PPP with the 🤬🤬🤬 page/idea. Yes, I had thought about that, but haven't looked into it yet; given my below average 20th C. technology skills. I've been told it's quite easy. I was in contact with one of Debbie's 4 siblings this past Sept., asking for any contact information for other siblings. I made mention of her unmarked "plot", along with the idea of having a grass marker made for Debbie, but I never heard back. I would like to proceed with this; however, I'm still "on the fence" a little bit. I don't want to step on anyone's toes, given the sensitive nature of something like this. Thanks again for your input/suggestions.

Bumping for Debbie.

Now is the time to do the right thing and come forward with any information that might solve this case.

Even if there is no chance of a trial, it still needs to be resolved and closed for Debbie and her family.

No tip is too small. Withholding information which may assist in resolving this case is akin to supporting a murderer. Do the right thing, let the authorities make the decision on what's relevant or not rather than finding excuses to convince yourself the information withheld is not worth submitting. Submit It!

I understand "there's a new Sheriff in town"; although I don't think he was born until 1970(?). A new set of eyes/ears and "thought process" (i.e. unbiased opinion) might hopefully get the DPCSO to take a closer look at Debbie's unsolved cold case. Thanks for posting the above Cubby.

Most likely, it has been quite some time since the DPCSD Unsolved Murders Website has been updated. I believe the K. Wesselman case was solved this past January 2018(?). Of the 12 unsolved cold cases shown/listed, only 3 have been solved. Very poor "stats", only 25%. I continue to hear and read about cold cases across the country being solved, but NOT in DPC.
