Does anyone recall when DuPage county first opened the cold case unit and during what time it was dismantled ( for lack of a better word ) and then recently re-opened again?

Luckymanuh might you recall these dates or apprx months/year ?

TIA

FWIW, I have notified some ISP about Debbies case. Am hoping their being familiar with the case might help. This is the ISP involved in the Drew Peterson case with Kathleen Savio.

I told him, as I trust 'joking with him' that I was going to chain myself to a stair railing at or about 501 N County Farm road if I didn't not see activity on Debbies case. He suggested I do so with those plastic ties LE uses instead of hand cuffs. ;)

I asked if he had any he could give me, half jokingly of course and told him maybe not as the numbers could be traced back to him. ;) He is the guy who - lol, taught my son breaking and entering in KG, lol, when he needed a little kid to slide under his garage door to get in to hit the garage door opener button. And this same neighbor was there for the arrest of Drew Peterson. And we talked a little bit about the Riley Fox case.....

He added it was not just WILL CTY who messed up on Rileys case... after I shared with him my fears and concern about DuPage not acknowledging Macek. and a bit about Milone. I will write a breif bullet pointed summary for him... just so someone outside DuPage has this info. He is younger than I, so likely unfamiliar but the more we can spread the word about Debbies case the better.

I'm thinking about Debbie's case again and want the world to know:

I would do anything to see Debbies case solved.
and I will politely and respectfully, within the law, do what I can to ensure
Debbies case is still active until solved.

I bleed "Debbie Fijan" deeper than I bleed Cubbie Blue.

I would have to look up when I was communicating with the original DPC Cold Case Detectives. I think within 6 months of me contacting them they were pulled to work on other live cases.

I would appreciate if you would look those dates up Luckymanuh. I'd like to put together a more recent timeline, just to have it.

thanks!

Of interest but a bit OT.

Kathleen Zellner is the attorney who has been in the media lately blasting Will county for not recognizing the actual perp in Riley Fox's case, and focusing solely on Rileys dad. I did notice in my research, Kathleen also handled Milones case when he fought the state for his wrongful conviction. Which makes me wonder.....Hmmmmm.....She may have some info on Macek......... and google shows she has an office in Oak Brook, IL. Oak Brook would be super easy for me to get to...... 15-20 min depending on traffic. Closer to 20 actually.

I bring this up, not because I want to point fingers at DuPage or in any way imply the detective currently working Debbies case isn't ontop of the case like it happened yesterday. I am ecstatic after all these years they are working diligently on Debbies case and the current detective may have the priviledge of not only solving this cold case, but bringing some kind of closure and answers to Debbies family........

BUT..... I know this is long winded.... ;)

I want as many eyes familiar with and going over the facts in this case with more than a fine tooth comb. I want to make sure if anyone other than Macek is responsible for this murder, Macek is not the spoke in the wheel so to speak for an acquital. IMO, there is no room, not even 1 millionth of a milimeter room for inaccuracies in this case WHEN, not IF, it comes to trial. As I have NO DOUBT this case will come to trial. I just hope it is sooner rather than later. (I have the same confidence I had in the Hawks winning. It doesn't happen often, but I get that feeling of it is a for sure deal.... I'm just afraid it is going to take 3 years to bring this to trial and I would like it to happen sooner.)

Anyone think we should send Kathleen a breif summary and some bullet points of Debbies case? See if she has anything to offer with her knowledge of Macek? Maybe even mention him as a possible suspect for other cases?

I would do about anything to keep the fire lit for Debbies case. Anything that is legal that is. ;)

tia for any feedback.

Cubby,
Sorry took so long to get into my file box. I found copies of letters I completely forgot I had written to people.
I even wrote to the Chicago Cold Case Detectives, they work with the Il States Attorney's office on the Valerie Percy case. I even spoke to him regarding other cold cases and Macek and of course was told he would get back to me. Doesn't surprise me in the least I never heard another word.
But anyway, I first contacted DPC Cold Case Detectives at that time in the late summer of 2004 and communicated off and on via email until Feb of 2005 when they were pulled to work active cases.

Thank you Luckymanuh. I didn't realize it went back as far as 2004 and early 2005.

I was curious for time reference purposes.

Oh yes, this an other cold cases have basically "haunted" me since 1990.

I think this is an excellent idea Cubby! We all know that the more eyes looking, the better chances of putting things together. I vote DO IT!! Oh, never mind, this wasn't a vote.........

Thanks TCO. I will send an email to Ms. Zimmer this week.
I need to think a little more on how to word it.

Giving it some thought I don't know how much she would know about Macek, but I would like to ask if she has anything on Macek she could share with us that might help rule in or rule out. It may be a long shot that she would- simply because her representation of Milone was to overturn his conviction. She may have only had info on Milones court case for the Kandel murder and not much other info on Maceks other cases......

but I think you are right and the more eyes on and who are familiar with Debbies case the better.

Macek has been suspect in other murders but for some unforesaken reason the dots were not connected. I have my own suspicions as to why. He seemed to have a protective bubble around him to only be connected to the crimes he was ID'd for. As far as any LEA going backward to make any connection they always ran into a road block. At least the ones I spoke too over the past 20 years. Good Luck.

Someone posted earlier their fear was without proof, any case against LS would likely come to an acquital if MACEK was not ruled out.

I agree with you on the bubble. DuPage is sometimes like living in the faux facad of the 1950's. At least when it comes to utilizing current data bases for unsolved crimes and news blurbs. I'm not interested in creating any unfounded conspiracy theories.... but there has to be more they can release to the public without bursting the DuPage 'image bubble' .....

and I gotta believe, like a diehard cub fan believes, those with current LE careers are not so blind or 'chained' to continue to cover up for skeletons that are so old. I PRAY we are not living in a county where LE would be inclined to or forced to be more loyal hiding stuff that is ancient history. I'd expect that decades ago, but I want to believe current LE would not be 'covering' for the mistakes made long before most current LE was even born and doors would be open to seeking the truth and justice.

What would be the point? To keep property values and property taxes up?
To keep the county from paying out a lawsuit for false inprisonment? If so, I think the majority of DuPage would likely not even care what repercussions occured based on cases decades old. I think they would want to know things were on the up and up and expect mistakes. EVERYONE MAKES MISTAKES. We are human... we're fallible. Are we so inclined to keep the truth hidden in the name of Justice? I pray not.

OT-

I'm probably going to get in trouble for this.... NON WS, trouble....

but I have a dream. That dream is to get Debbies case solved.

In my dream, if I was not a single mom, I would just do that peaceful protest thing.
And take whatever reprecussions came with it......

I think I would 'chain' myself or go on a hunger strike - or use those plastic handcuff ties to tie myself to the DuPage County Courthouse on a stair railing....

Even if I had to do so alone, with my own picket sign. I want MY PET CASE SOLVED.

I dream about getting approval for a 'peaceful protest/march' which starts at Wheaton Bible College. Maybe at Blanchard Hall. and inviting all from the hippy San Fran type to the quiet religious type. All faiths welcome! All walks of life welcome who are interested in justice for cold cases!

Blanchard Hall, Wheaton Bible College, Wheaton, IL (photo source campusexplorer.com)

and we would walk in unity from Blanchard Hall to the DuPage County court house and DEMAND justice for DEBBIE FIJAN!

jof_lg.jpg

(DuPage county court house, source google images search, dupagecounty.org)

That is my dream! For Justice for Debbie!

It will happen... in time..... just like the tall prairie grass continues to grow in this county, and all the historical societies make sure nothing is forgotten. From Cloverdale, to Utopia.... to Flowerfield... and all those forgotten names which were lost when villages were incorporated. towns here are called villages for the most part.

Why? nothing is ever forgotten....
and I/we want the WORLD to know.....
Debbie Fijan will NEVER be forgotten.
Not ever.

Justice for Debbie will happen!

Cubby, you just gave me the goosebumps!

Yes, there will be justice for Debbie Fijan!

And, as a lifelong Cub fan myself, I am copacetic with being a believer Cubby.

I believe the truth will prevail. It has to, it just has to.

Thank you TCO.

It's been on my mind for awhile and I decided it was time to post how strongly I feel about wanting Justice for Debbie. And I want it in her parents lifetime. They deserve answers. Her siblings deserve answers. And the person or persons responsible deserve to face the consequences for their actions.

I pray daily for this case to be solved and will continue to do so until the person responsible pays for their crime.

I've just had a thought in my head for a while, thinking about cases such as Debbie's..Christine Wright's...And countless other cases.

Somewhere out there right now, that friendly older fellow on the corner is watering his roses. He waves at the kids as they walk home from school, he always gives when the hat is passed at church, maybe spends a few afternoons as the greeter at the local department store.

That friendly fellow, maybe 30 or 40 years ago, raped, tortured, and murdered a little girl and has carried that secret with him all these years. Maybe relives it for his own personal pleasure in the darkest parts of the night.

Makes one stop and think.

  • #239
TY Shadow'. I'll add an additional thought to that......

or perhaps he justifies in his mind how he has been forgiven because of the life he has lead since. Fully believing in his mind he has paid his dues, or made amends or penance for his ways.

I could go on, but I'd probably have to time myself out so I'll end here.

At this point, in these older cases, I'm not even concerned for the possibility of jail time. I just want these bastards exposed, the truth revealed, for their families and friends to know the reality of the person they think they've known all these years.

And you're probably right...After all this time, their first reaction would most likely be, "so what's the big deal? I've been a good person since...."
