If he was on this route, it says it stops in Midway Station, St Paul.
Three stops near Glacier Nat'l Park.. but winter only at Browning.
Another stop at Whitefish, MT.
In Spokane, WA, the train splits, with 4 cars going to Portland, OR.

Another thing I would think about looking into,

What time was he dropped off?

What time was he last seen?

What time did the train arrive? (Amtrak is often late, and can be late by multiple hours)

6 am that same day, the train going west to east, hit a car that put the train in a 5 hour delay.

The investigation halted the train for five hours and provided a disturbing delay for dozens of passengers

But could it have caused a further delay for all of the trains? I know I wouldn't want to sit in a bus station for 5 hours. I'm not finding anything more. The trains all depart for Portland from Chicago between 2:15-3:15pm (depending on which train he took) according to the Amtrak reservation site.

i am garrens cousin. garren is not prone to rash decisions and has never done anything like this in the past. he was to take the train home, and the person who supposedly dropped him off is not such a great person. there are conflicting stories from this person about taking him to the train station, but he told police he was out of town at the same time garren was dropped off. there is no record of him arriving at union station and his ticket was not used. there was an explosion at the house of this guy and they are currently searching the rubble with cadaver dogs. yes, garren is the grandson of harriett rex smith of ashland oregon and also norbert smith who was a famous artist in paris. please ask if the are any other questions we can answer. we will do anything we can to find him and have answers one way or another. if anyone has any information, please contact me at [email protected].

You answered some of my questions.
About if Garren was even seen on security cameras at Union Station,
if he did get on Amtrak.

So, this person: He says he did drop Garren off, then changes his story or details of the story. Then he says he was out of town and didn't drop Garren off.
Garren's Amtrak ticket has not been used.
Garren's cell phone goes to voice mail.
Now, there has been an explosion at this man's house!
This gets more suspect as time goes on.

Was this man at the house when it exploded? Or was he away?
Did Garren stay at his house during his trip?
Do the police believe that Garren was kept from his trip home or that
something has happened to him?

Googled explosion in chicago home, dec 7.
The only thing I found is a gas explosion at a Belvidere Factory.
One man killed 1/4 mile away.

i am garrens cousin. garren is not prone to rash decisions and has never done anything like this in the past. he was to take the train home, and the person who supposedly dropped him off is not such a great person. there are conflicting stories from this person about taking him to the train station, but he told police he was out of town at the same time garren was dropped off. there is no record of him arriving at union station and his ticket was not used. there was an explosion at the house of this guy and they are currently searching the rubble with cadaver dogs. yes, garren is the grandson of harriett rex smith of ashland oregon and also norbert smith who was a famous artist in paris. please ask if the are any other questions we can answer. we will do anything we can to find him and have answers one way or another. if anyone has any information, please contact me at [email protected].

Thank you so much for posting - especially during this difficult time. So it looks like there could be foul play involved and law enforcement is on the case. It seems very odd that there was an explosion at or around the time of your cousins dissapearance. Not to intrude, but was there a rift between the 2? How did it end up that this person dropped him off (or supposedly dropped him off)?

I'll keep you and your cousin in my prayers.

He has never done anything like this in the past. his train ticket was bought, but never used. to our knowledge, his credit cards have not been used. the guy that took him to the train station is not such a nice guy. there is no record of him being at the train station in chicago.

I have read all the articles and did not see any mention of him being dropped off by someone at Amtrak in Chicago. Was this person a friend or family member?

While looking for info about the explosion in Chicago I found this news story about shots fired in Chicago. LE found bullet holes and casings but no victims.

I live in Chicago and there is a lot of stuff that goes on that isn't reported in the papers. I wouldn't doubt the "explosion" until we get more verification. IMO of course.

this is from a previously quoted post and it does say that there is no evidence that garren ever was at the station and that his ticket was not used, so i guess there must be record of a ticket purchased in his name but never boarded the train. i have taken the zypher a lot out west and this time of year if he loved to ski he could have hopped on the "ski train" in colorado if he was taking that route from chicago....but there again there would be record of him boarding the train... im particularly curious of this house explosion...what kind of explosion?? natural gas for heating, or something more nefarious than that?? i dont want to suggest anything criminal, but its not everyday that someones house explodes. i was just thinking that if there was no record that garren was at the house during this time and if the owner was up to anything criminal he may not want it to be known that garren was there???? idk...what are you thinking?

do you have any idea why this guys house may have blown up? and did garren actually make it to visit anyone else on his trip? was this guy who garren was planning on visiting?
