Le said they requested all activity for credit cards. It makes me wonder if Jessica had a purse with her but her wallet's missing... I mean, it would be a given that they request activity for everything anyway, both people, but it reminded me that nothing was written that said if her purse & wallet were found or conversely missing...

This is a strange case. I hope the media stays right on this.

I noticed they haven't released what Jacob was wearing....and apparently they have some video surveillance or are looking for some. My best guess is that they believe he may also be deceased.

GROUND SEARCH FOR WHEELER CONTINUES TODAY WITH IDNR ON THE RIVER
By JACK HOWSER

Snipped:
The two were camping and fishing over the weekend at a private camping area at a pond in the Centerville area of White County north of Crossville. They were last seen late Saturday night, and Evans’ mother last heard from her shortly after midnight early Sunday morning after Evans had caught her first fish and called her mom to tell her.

Snipped:
Evans’ body was found Monday afternoon in the bed of Wheeler’s pickup, which had been driven down a steep embankment at the Little Wabash north of where they had been camping. She had been shot in the head three times. There was no sign of other trauma to her body. An autopsy yesterday showed that she had likely been deceased 24 to 48 hours prior to being found. And Wheeler was missing.

Snipped:
Maier confirmed that Harold and Jane Wheeler, Jacob’s parents, as well as his brother, Jeremy, traveled to the Illinois State Police Post District 19, but said he wouldn’t call it “questioning.”

“We had questions for them,” he said, “and otherwise we were just gathering information from them.” Maier said they were at the post for about an hour. The questioning was a necessary course of action in a missing person’s case, Maier said, because “we don’t know if we have a suspect or a victim; sad enough, Jake could be either one.”

Snipped:
Maier said that the DNR guys will be limiting their search from the Cherry Shoals Bridge over the Little Wabash (a bridge that’s been closed for several years, and located north and west of the Centerville area) to the new Hank’s Ferry Bridge…

WHEELER CASE UPDATE, here because I can't get to the site: Sheriff Doug Maier has confirmed that there is a weapon missing from the Harold and Jane Wheeler home. He can't say at this time what type of weapon it was. However, the Wheeler family "did NOT attempt to hide the fact that there IS a weapon missing," according to Maier. The discovery was made during the execution of a search warrant at the Wheeler home. Sheriff Maier also confirmed that a search warrant was issued, and is in effect, in an attempt to obtain Jacob Wheeler's credit card/bank usage. When the site comes back up, we'll give you more details...there is more brewing; but we ask you be patient as regards the website. Chris is working on it; bigger server coming.

Does it not seem unusual that LE would say they are looking for a body?
There must be something at the crime scene to lead them to believe this. JMO

I know this will probably land at an awkward spot...

But I am thinking a theory may be murder-suicide.

  • #290
Cant figure out why in the world he would want to shoot her tho. Guess that gives insight to what LE is thinking. With a gun missing that changes everything. I wonder since he took the gun from his parents if he planed killing her?:(

If it is a murder-suicide, he did a good job of hiding his own body.
Starting to sound like he killed her and fled...

  • #292
I wonder what the missing weapon is...

I also wonder what type of wild animals are indigenous to that area...

Camping with a weapon doesn't seem that strange now that I think about it. I've kept a knife near me whenever I've camped in a tent. I was taught to throw with good aim, as well as self protection methods.

Idk, maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part. I'm just really hoping that missing weapon wasn't a gun.

I wonder how long he had been hanging out with her or dating her? <modsnip> He still has a wife that neither one seems to be in a hurry to file for a divorce. Just trying to think of a possible motive that he would want to shoot this girl 3 times in the head.

  • #296
I know but that is probably what it is. I now believe he shot her.

This is such a damn sad case. I mean, they all are really, but this guy serves in Iraq, comes home, separates from his wife whom appears to have 3 kids of her own so now we know those kids are affected as well, has a relationship with a 17 y/o that is killed with 3 bullets to the head...omg what is going on here.

Flashbacks to Iraq maybe?

Why would he kill her? My mind just doesn't wanna believe it. Idk.

One thing I do find odd is how he went from a mature woman with 3 children to a relationship with a 17 y/o senior in hs. Setting aside the age difference (I'm 7 years older than my husband btw), the maturity & experience levels are on completely different plateaus. That's enough to mess with somebody's romantic thinking process. It does make me wonder who did the breakup, amicable or not.

WHITE CO, IL (WFIE) -
A river search underway for a man named a person of interest in the shooting death of a teenage girl.

22-year-old Jacob Wheeler of Norris City and 17-year-old Jessica Evans were reported missing on Sunday.

Evans' body was found Monday afternoon in White County, Illinois.
The White County Sheriff's Office says Wheeler's family has been out looking for Wheeler as well. Although, he says with so many days since their investigation began, it doesn't seem there is a good outcome for anyone. The sheriff's office believes Wheeler could either be hurt, running away from authorities, or dead.

"We haven't located him now for two or three days, so we have to start having an assumption that he may still be out here and has gotten out of this area," said White County Sheriff Doug Maier.

The White County Sheriff's Office along with other state agencies have been actively looking for Wheeler on land since Sunday. Now, they're searching for a body.

"We've done a pretty extensive ground search on both sides of the river on that area, and we've located nothing so the area that we haven't obviously been able to search has been in the water," Maier said.

Conservation police are searching a two mile area on the Little Wabash River from where the sheriff's office says Evans and Wheeler were camping and where Evans' body was found in the bed of Wheeler's pick up truck.

"We at this point haven't ruled out anything because we don't know exactly what happened at that camp area or along the river on that area. We have some ideas of what might have happened, but we certainly aren't ruling out any possibility," Maier said. "Yeah, we are listing Jake as a person of interest, but we also have ruled out that he might be a victim in this situation. Bottom line we have to locate him no matter what the scenario is."

An autopsy confirmed Evans died from several gun shot wounds to the head.

Sheriff Maier says Wheeler had access to a gun that is now missing from Wheeler's family member.

"The main focus we have is we have to locate Jacob Wheeler," Maier states.

Evans was two weeks into her senior year at Norris City-Omaha-Enfield Schools. Superintendent Cliff Karnes says she loved art and had goals to become a nurse in the military.

Karnes says counselors were on hand at the school this week for students. There are only about 200 students in the entire high school.

"One of them made a statement they are grieving together and they are learning to get through this together, which I think is one of our strengths. We are so small, but so close. As it affects one student, it affects most of us," Karnes said.

Evans' funeral is planned for this Saturday in Norris City.

It still doesn't make any sense to me for him to shoot her, leave her in the back of his truck and take off??? On foot?? Somebody picked him up?? Just doesn't add up.MOO

Now we know for sure what the weapon is.
