It puzzled me that Oz said the alcohol level wasn't high. I don't know anything about those levels, but isn't hers twice the legal limit?

It wasn't quite double the legal limit, which is 0.08 in IL I believe. Hers was 0.112. Nonetheless, sure her BAC wasn't sky-high, but it was high. I don't really get how he could claim that it wasn't, but he's a junk doctor IMO anyways. In this article from Notre Dame regarding BAC, they describe general effects at different BACs (a lot of different things cause it to vary of course). KJ's falls into this range:

0.100-0.129% Significant impairment of motor coordination and loss of good judgment. Speech may be slurred; balance, peripheral vision, reaction time, and hearing will be impaired.

And that's not even factoring in the topiramate.

In new orleans, the legal limit is .10,which is 1 drink per hour. That girl was not doing all that swaying from .1anything Other things in her system must have caused that, if that alcohol reading is correct.

Did anyone see the case on Dr Oz today. He said they found some kind of epileptic drug in her system, but her mom says she never had epilepsy. Has anyone ever heard of that kind of drug used in partying?

That was discussed here at some point. It was Topamax, and it is an anti-epileptic but is also used for migraines and sometimes other purposes. She had a "therapeutic level" in her system, which means she had been taking it for a while because it builds up over time. It isn't something that gives an immediate effect.

It has been used for weight loss in some cases, also. It's possible she had gotten it prescribed for her for any of these reasons, or maybe had gotten ahold of some that was prescribed to someone else (maybe a friend who said it wasn't working and gave her their leftovers), but regardless of how she got it, she definitely wasn't using it just that night to try to get high. She'd been taking it for a while.

I am prescribed Lamotrigine (aka Lamictal) to help with my PTSD symptoms (specifically, my nightmares). It is an epilepsy drug as well. I was told by my doctor to only take it at night before sleeping, as it can make people very drowsy. It also interacts badly with alcohol, as far as I know.

I know someone who takes Lamictal for mood disorder. It's amazing how 1 drug can be used for different disorders.

Kenneka was responsible for her death, sadly. I understand the sadness and pain her family feels, but the injustice of a lawsuit will not ease it.

Yes both of those are not alarming at all, and are very easily explained. However, when you want to believe something, especially something so fantastical, you will disregard the medical facts and dig for articles that fit your narrative. Again, I cannot for the life of me understand why people WANT kenneka to have been raped, murdered, organ harvested, etc. Why do people want so badly to force a narrative where this poor young woman would have suffered more than she actually did in reality? Sad.

Bears, the answer is that it's very difficult in life to accept responsibility! In my opinion, that's just what it's all about. Something bad happened, so it must be someone's fault. As in: Someone other than myself/my friends/my family.... To me, there's something about that that is as sad as the premature ending of a young life.

I took topamax. How strange that was in her system! It can be used for binge eating disorder as well. Awful side effects. Not some quick one and and done fun drug. Odd

Totally agree. The hotel didn't put the drinks to her mouth, nor offer her the drinks, sell her the drinks, etc. Hopefully that case doesn't even make it to the courts and is thrown out.

Named in the lawsuit are the hotel, the realty company that owned and managed it, the security company used by the hotel and the restaurant which had leased the kitchen space, including the freezer, from the hotel. The Rosemont PD and Ken'neka's friends were not named in the suit.

The lawsuit was pretty much expected as Ken'neka's mother had lawyers advising her early on. It'll be interesting to see how it progresses. Curiously, LE had asked the mother twice for Ken'neka's cell phone in order to do a forensic examination but her she refused both times, saying she had already gone through it herself.

At a press conference today held by counsel for Teresa Martin, the allegation was raised that there was a possibility that Ms. Jenkins was locked in the freezer. Numerous media outlets have already disputed these erroneous claims of anyone locking Ms. Jenkins in the freezer, referencing the video recorded by a motion-activated camera inside the kitchen. In addition, the freezer did not lock from the inside or outside and was functioning properly on the night in question

"Through pure negligence someone noticed that the doors in the kitchen were open. They locked them, they locked them like they should have been locked. They locked the freezer. And unfortunately they locked Kenneka into the freezer," Fieger said.
The theory however, contradicts hours of surveillance video released by Rosemont Police in the aftermath of Jenkins' death, which apparently shows that after she rounded the kitchen corner where the freezer was kept, no one else entered the area until her body was found.

IMO this is a headscratcher; why would the attorney make this claim if the freezer couldn't lock from the inside or out and video doesn't show anyone else entering the area until Ken'neka's body was found?

Both claims can be easily disputed and according to msm reports both have already been disputed. Unless he has some new evidence to back up his statements (and he did not say that he did at the press conference) it appears that he's just wrong.

IMO the only reason I can think of for these allegations is to either a) stir up controversy in social media in hopes that the hotel will settle in order to protect its reputation or b) hope to create doubt in jurors' minds if the case goes to court.

Other videos taken by police show the freezer door. It does not appear to match the images Fieger displayed at the news conference.

IMO it's a risky move without evidence although I know in civil cases evidence presented has more leeway than criminal cases. It will be interesting to see how this case proceeds. MOO.
