On the Oswego block where Kimberly Vaughn and the children used to play, the life insurance revelations revealed plenty to the Vaughns' next door neighbor.

"From the very first day I was thinking what was the motive," said Mohammad Ansar. "And it came to our discussion that there might be an insurance policy pending."

If Vaughan was after money, it's highly unlikely he'll get any, unless he's acquitted.

"The slayer statute is that you cannot inherit based upon an ill deed that you do," Miller said. "In other words, if you kill somebody, you can't benefit from it."

After Kimberly Vaughn was killed, her home was put up for sale and her mother was in charge of her $1 million life insurance estate. But a judge ruled Friday that a third party should take control, and that no money can be removed without a court order. An exception was made for about $30,000, the cost of the funeral for Kimberly Vaughn and the three children.

According to testimony Friday, Christopher Vaughn was supposed to receive $1 million from a RiverSource life insurance policy. However, Vaughn has not had access to that money because of an Illinois law commonly called the "slayer statute." Vaughn cannot use the assets of victims for his legal defense. If he is convicted, he will not be able to claim the insurance benefits.

Kimberly and Christopher Vaughn took out insurance policies on each other, although it was not immediately clear when those policies were taken out or if they were of equal value.

I am still anxious to hear what the Druid connection was all about.

My husband and I both have $1 million life insurance policies on each other - I suspect many couples do. That's interesting information, of course, but I think there had to be something else going on "motive" wise.

Thanks always, chico, for the updates!

Of course the $l million insurance policy is a good motive...then you add a little of what he MAY have planned to spend the $$ on........

Strip club workers on Vaughn witness list

..................snip......................

There are dozens of names on the 11-page report, and some of them are the typical witnesses in criminal cases: police officers, paramedics and doctors. Others -- such as the employees from Scores, the upscale Chicago strip club near O'Hare Airport, for example --

Yeah - good point. This case has fascinated me from Day 1 and LE has kept so much information close to the vest, it seems - or maybe it just hasn't caught fire with the press. I just really want to have a picture of what happened! Guess I'll have to wait for the trial.

I have a feeling there may be SOMETHING on his computer. :loser:

One of the articles I believe that chico linked said there were some pictures on the computer that they were going to print out and give to the family. IMO, it seems as if they may want to continue holding the computer for 'evidence.':silenced:

YORKVILLE, Ill. (Aurora Beacon News) ― Kimberly Vaughn made her husband the beneficiary on her $1 million life insurance policy in 2004, more than three years before she was murdered.

A look at the court file for Kimberly Vaughn's estate appears to show an ordinary life insurance policy for the Oswego homemaker and mother of three.

I'm sorry, but what is ordinary about a 1 MILLION life insurance policy????

My guess is the plan was to have enough to pay off the mortgage, hire childcare/housekeeping, and have enough left over to put three through college. It's not that out of the realm of reality when you think of it...I'm not sure what the home value was but it's possible if they got tons of upgrades that it was in the neighborhood of 400,000K.

I consider a $1 million life insurance policy pretty ordinary for a married couple with a mortgage and 3 kids. I don't consider it over the top at all.

ETA: there's no way money was the primary motivation or he would have just killed her. He slaughtered them all - it's like he wanted to erase anything and everything to do with his family life. If he wanted a clean slate, my guess is that there's some one or some lifestyle he wanted to escape to. I haven't read a thing that indicates there was another person. It just boggles the mind!

Your right southcitymom it is pretty standard. I have a mortgage and 3 children and we each have 1 million dollar policies on eachother. It sounds like alot but when you consider house, car, general mateniance and then college for three kids you would probably need more.

Cali - that's what we have on my husband. I'm embarrassed to say we have nothing on me  because we are lazy and assume I will live forever, but we are rectifying that in January!

True, true - and I feel fairly confident that DH isn't planning to murder me, so there goes my last excuse for not getting coverage!
