It was reported on the day this happened LE was withholding information. Yesterday it was confirmed the gun was found at the crime scene. The guy with the name no one can spell said it during yesterdays presser. Today he says something again about the gun being found as if today is the first day he heard it.

The info coming from LE is really starting to become circular. ay yi yi. Hinky.

Maybe the guy with the name no one can spell is being extra cautious with the chief of police retiring two work days before this occured? Maybe he is not up to speed or being kept out of the loop regarding the other investigation announced the week of Aug 20?
The wait continues......

Catching up ~

Cubby, omg, the Cmdr. said the same thing today AGAIN during the 12:30 presser.
He said he can confirm NOW the gun found belonged to Lt. CG.
What is going on within this case?

from the presser today at 12:30 central

have acquired SEVERAL more video that we believe are even MORE relevant.

We can tell chronologically - the FBI has the technology to put these videos into a sequential order to create a timeline. We have video of before and shortly after the crime.

I think we are optimistic about all of the videos. Different cameras putting the story together. There is a commonality there that makes us interested in those videos. not at liberty to reveal any forensic info, can confirm it was officers weapon found at the scene. We will not stop until we make arrests.

perps had local knowledge. Not necessarily in the community but possibly from neighboring communities.

saturation patrols from multiple agencies make us confident that the community at large is not in immediate danger.

partial resort community, plans in place for this holiday weekend. we are prepared for the possibility that some of the folks visiting during this holiday weekend may contact us to let us know they suspect someone has been squatting in their property. Check boats etc to see if it appears someone may have been squatting there.

haven't had a chance to view the videos. we are not prepared to give out specific descriptions of suspects yet. Those videos are still being pieced together and enhanced.

You all know in order to get a DNA match there must be a match in the system. If we get DNA sample from scene we will run it against codis.

We feel that the saturation of police presence that the community should feel safe.

Because of the vagueness of the description of the individuals provided by officer it makes it hard to sift through various tips. Federal partners are following up on leads that are further away.

I am not technology expert - we have a call in to see how much progress has been made with the initial video provided by business owner but that is not the only nugget we have we have multiple videos.

No idea if suspects separated or are still together.

wow this is a long presser with little info.

We do not need any other agencies involved. We have to keep investigation focused. We have a mission here and we will keep going until we solve this case.

what you are going to do is if it has a time stamp that will give a general idea of when these individuals were in that area. That is how the videos will be used to create a timeline of the activity that day.

Thank you.

This part grabbed my attention more than anything else.

There is a commonality there that makes us interested in those videos. not at liberty to reveal any forensic info, can confirm it was officers weapon found at the scene. We will not stop until we make arrests.

I believe these videos have been seen by others and they know what is on them such as the homeowner or businesses owners and LE is trying to link them all together to be used as a timeline. So I understand why all of these videos haven't come out.

Imo, the commonality of what they are seeing is the images of certain people such as two white men and a black man in a certain area and are seeing them again on other videos from areas close to where it happened. If they can enhance the videos they may be able to see the suspicious subjects more clearly. The camera views could have been from a long view.

If they can enhance the images then they will also know if these three people that may have been seen together on some of the videos have come forward to let LE know they were in the area at the time of the shooting. If they have not notified/contacted LE by now.... then that is very suspicious for anyone who was not involved in the murder.

We are a society who expects instant gratification now even in murder cases and ongoing investigations but this will be a very serious case if the suspects are apprehended and trials are held. So all law enforcement agencies must be very careful examining all of the videos and making sure chain of custody is fully met because they could become very good evidence. They also have to make sure they do nothing that would destroy any of the video footage they have in their possession even when making their copy. If used at trial the DA will have to present the originals to the court. It always has to be preserved so taking their time to link all of these videos together to show a good timeline is good police work. Its much better to be thorough.

This officer isn't the only police officer ever found dead with his service weapon found with him at the scene.

The murderer could have used their own weapon to shoot the officer and when they saw him go down and stay down they took off to escape.

Or they could have had a confrontation with the officer and wrestled his gun away from him and it may be determined he was murdered with his own weapon. Unfortunately for police officers that has happened to some of them too.

I wonder if its possible that one of them was shot? THAT would be something to hold tight to the vest. LE will not divulge how many shots were fired from the officers weapon...maybe he got one of them before someone got him? Obviously not a life-threatening one, but if they found any blood that wasn't the officers, they will have DNA. JUST A THOUGHT, NOT A THEORY! JMO

Yes, so true. The tragedy happened on Tuesday and on late Wednesday we heard the Officer's gun had been located within the area. At first, it was believed his gun had been taken from the scene which was false info. Now, on Friday, the same report is being stated during a presser as if it is a new fact being revealed for the very first time which seems odd.
We're expecting or hoping for some new information at this point in the investigation.

catching up ~

The notices to warn no concealed weapons allowed on every business and restaurant door disturb me. What is the point of the law allowing concealed carry if you can't enter anywhere?
Of course we don't want people getting drunk and getting into a gun fight but gee whiz.

Not all businesses and restaurants have the sign in IL. It is state law though (and the business has no say) that if they draw in more than half of its revenue in alcohol, the sign goes up. I haven't heard of people complaint that they can't go anywhere.

These types of incidents are always investigated as a murder because they can't go back later and retrieve evidence. Very common and it comes up in numerous cases here.

Time will tell. The truth is whatever the truth is and it will eventually come out.

That has long passed. His body has been autopsied. The ME has given the information to LE on MOD/COD.

And they don't always start it out as a murder investigation. It will start out as a death investigation if they are uncertain about how the death happened.

One strategy seems to be a BIG reward.

Is there an official reward or are they just saying people/businesses are offering to help with a reward?

An ex-FBI agent and analyst was just on Fox News.

He said he has no idea why the DHS would be evaluating the videos, but he thinks that question needs to be asked.

He said the FBI is the normal "go-to" organization when it comes to video splicing, evaluating, enhancing and general handling. They have years and years of experience doing it and they have all the technology needed to get the job done. He thinks letting the DHS handle the videos is a mistake, and he is wondering why they are involved in this investigation at all.

He believes the perps will eventually be caught, with a tip from a person that knows one of the three men being the most likely scenario.

This just came over live TV on Fox News---no link.

If they have nothing new they should say they have nothing new to make public. At this point they are looking ridiculous in the pressers. The pressers should stop until they have something significant to report. Hearing the same info regurgitated day after day is getting old.

I am really curious about this one video that DHS was sent to extract! Could it have captured some other activity relating to homeland security so it needs to be screened through them? What could possibly be the "trouble" they are having with it? Was it tampered with in some way?

  • #415
Maybe DHS is involved because of recent events in which people have been encouraged to show their hatred for LE.

I have had the same question as to why the DHS is involved rather than the FBI.

This ex-agent seemed to think there was something very fishy about Dept. of Homeland Security being involved in this investigation at all, much less taking over the handling and processing of the videos.

If Fox News puts the interview with him on their website later on, I'll link it.

I don't remember where I read the reason DHS got it, but what I read indicated that the homeowner told a trusted law enforcement officer about the video and their suspicion that it MAY be relevant to the investigation. The law enforcement guy was DHS, so he naturally had DHS retrieve it. I believe that the more recently acquired videos are with the FBI. The DHS will also send the homeowner video to the FBI. CNN ex-FBI guys are dismayed that the first video did not go directly to the FBI....but I think they may not have realized that the DHS handled it because the friend of the homeowner is DHS.
