I don't remember where I read the reason DHS got it, but what I read indicated that the homeowner told a trusted law enforcement officer about the video and their suspicion that it MAY be relevant to the investigation. The law enforcement guy was DHS, so he naturally had DHS retrieve it. I believe that the more recently acquired videos are with the FBI. The DHS will also send the homeowner video to the FBI. CNN ex-FBI guys are dismayed that the first video did not go directly to the FBI....but I think they may not have realized that the DHS handled it because the friend of the homeowner is DHS. JMO JMO JMO

But why would the DHS not take the video to the investigating agency? I've had to report things to my local LE when I couldn't get county to reply. fortunately I have a good enough relationship with our local LE that an LEO took my tip to county. I can understand a homeowner going through another agency, but not the other agency not going through the investigating agency.

According to the recent press conference, the first video was sent to or given to Homeland Security because they were there and Chief Felenko had worked with them before, AND the new videos have been given to the FBI to put in sequence and they will add the first video when Homeland Security gets done with it.

This ex-agent seemed to think there was something very fishy about Dept. of Homeland Security being involved in this investigation at all, much less taking over the handling and processing of the videos.

If Fox News puts the interview with him on their website later on, I'll link it.

At first I thought it was just a matter of convenience thing, like their lab was closest or there was a personal connection. I'm curious now about what the actual connection and interest might be.

Does anyone know what the scope of DHS investigation-enforcement entails? No idea, here. I thought that it was mainly home-grown terrorist activity and border security. So many agencies! JMO

That's exactly what their role is...........so what are they doing in the middle of a small town murder in Illinois ?

Are they trying to tie this to ISIS ? Is there something about these "two white males and a black male" that isn't what it seems ? Was DHS aware of something going on in that town before this officer was gunned down ?

catching up ~

The notices to warn no concealed weapons allowed on every business and restaurant door disturb me. What is the point of the law allowing concealed carry if you can't enter anywhere?
Of course we don't want people getting drunk and getting into a gun fight but gee whiz.

Well, if it stops the violent criminals who were intending to rob the place at gunpoint. You know, they get there with their guns in their waistband, they see the sign, and they say to themselves, "Oh man, I can't take my gun in there." And then they go home instead. Signs save lives. <rolleyes>

Dunno! It is considered to be a suburb of Chicago about 60 mi away, and I'm sure DHS has a presence in the WindyCity. JMO

steelman, now that we have the 128 Honing Road address on the tip site can you update the maps? Both the street view and aerial if you can.

This is what I have been wondering since the first mention of DHS. I am about to eat dinner with my family, but if anyone has a minute...
A few weeks ago there was a map circulating that showed where they were investigating possible terror threats within the US. I couldn't get it to load at the time because my phone was on its last leg (just got a replacement) so I don't know how detailed it was, but maybe there is some correlation with Illinois? It was definitely in mainstream media.

I will try and find it when I am done with dinner!

Does anyone think they've got a good idea of who the suspects are from this video and they are watching them until Homeland Security can get a clean image sufficient to make arrests?

Yes, I do.

they are not offensive at all.....................................................................

They are to me.

Actually, laws and regulations do, but we can't go there. LOL JMO

“We’re optimistic about all of these videos right now, because they all come together chronologically,” Filenko said “They’re not separate. They’re not independent. There are different cameras that are putting a storyline together.”

Interesting that Filenko chose to use the word storyline as opposed to timeline.

Appropriately, I think. Good investigators don't jump to conclusions. They let the facts speak for themselves, in spite of their personal grief or wishes. JMO

Is there an official reward or are they just saying people/businesses are offering to help with a reward?
Until today's presser, I had heard nothing about a reward. Motorola Solutions is one of the few remaining pieces of a long local company, headquartered an hour south in Schaumburg. Motorola had a big presence in Libertyville until recently, a half hour southeast. There are still many Motorola employees/ex-employees in the area. It was a little strange to see the Motorola exec at the presser, but not too much of a stretch. Felt a bit like sticking their nose in the spotlight with some money, but I'm certainly not saying they shouldn't do it.

During the news hour earlier at 4:00 p.m. (abc news), the anchor was asking questions of the local reporter who said

- LE back to the crime scene again today

- LE looking into something in Wisconsin

- there are several videos consistent with the suspects

- fly flags at half-staff

- funeral arrangement information (1:00 p.m. on Monday)

Basically, the reporter stated those points.
Her statement about Wisconsin stuck out as being different.
There weren't any follow-up questions asked of the reporter nor did the reporter elaborate - she simply slipped in a comment about LE looking into something up in Wisconsin.
Since then I haven't heard Wisconsin mentioned again during further news reports on abc or other channels.

How does one grieve "properly"? Grief is very personal. JMO I also see that there is accumulating information which may very well prove a homicide. It is just not definitive, as yet. JMO

LE has said he was murdered. They haven't hesitated or wavered in this statement. Their statement is a fact. It is not different than when they have said any other person was murdered...or shall we began to question every death they declare?

What I meant by grieving properly is that when your husband is murdered in the line of duty and the guilty parties are not captured and/or people are accusing the man you love of being a liar, and he hasn't even been buried yet.....it is hard to start the grieving process. I haves seen it happen before. It sucks and it is hard.

On the 5:30 p.m. abc news,
news was LE is going door-to-door taking DNA samples of up to fifty people. Neighbors are asking, "What's going on?".
