It appears that there are internal problems, I am guessing that is why the bad mouthing of the coroner. jmo idk

In Lake County, as in other jurisdictions, politics and policing are inextricable, and the law enforcement officials charged with working together are also enmeshed in campaign battles and disputes over major cases.

Sheriff Mark Curran, for example, recently opened his campaign to replace State's Attorney Mike Nerheim by attacking the prosecutor's efforts to eliminate wrongful convictions, which plagued the county under former State's Attorney Michael Waller. Nerheim's campaign manager pointed out changes he brought to the office and his willingness to drop cases contradicted by evidence.

Rudd has frequently criticized the case against Melissa Calusinski, a day care worker convicted of killing a toddler in Lincolnshire in 2009. Nerheim has reviewed the evidence and defended the case. Filenko helped take her confession.

The thank you button wasn't enough. This certainly explains things. The wrongful convictions crossed my mind while following this case and it's clear the tug of war is being carried over into this case.

Yeah in the vicinity, not at. Big big difference. Thanks anyway. jmo idk

It's important to me as I'm a stickler for details. Accuracy is important in a case, imo. But let's drop it. We can agree to disagree on how we are reading the maps based on the info available on the case. ok?

I don't see this case being resolved. I think the pi**ing contest between LE and the ME is going to end up with a stale mate and the manner of death being undetermined.

Filenko previously confirmed Gliniewicz's .40-caliber handgun was recovered at the scene, but he has refused to comment on any evidence recovered with the weapon.

Fox Lake village officials said Thursday that Gliniewicz's death was not linked to an internal police department investigation, as some have speculated.

^ Seems odd to say since it's still an active investigation.

Yeah, that one has become a cluster-f*** recently. I knew the dad at a former job. Sad situation.

The "devastating wound was below the neck"

IMO: It may also have been below the belt/waistline with and upward trajectory towards the Abdomen.

One shot as stated clips his cell phone and is absorbed by bullet proof vest, the other shot from a lower point with a little different angle during a struggle penetrates below the vest and does 40 caliber type damage.

Also, sources told FOX 32 that Gliniewicz was also shot in the vest, the bullet hitting his cell phone which was clipped on the vest, and that the shell casing was found a considerable distance away from where his body and the second shell casing was discovered.

That's some pretty specific new detail. Neither investigators nor the coroner are credited, only "sources". Somebody close is leaking information, be it true or not.

No confirmation as to how many shots fired, or what gun. JMO

Not the only one, but FOX particularly thrives on information from anonymous sources "close" to the investigation......just sayin' JMO

Now wondering if there is injury to the neck is it an exit wound?

? Could be. That would explain why an observer would think that the shot was to the neck because the greater damage and gaping wound would be where the bullet EXITED. But since the rumor was that it was the Back of the neck, if there is any truth to it at all, then the shot and entry wound would have to be at the lower front, or torso. That would negate there being a vest worn, most likely. Then there is the unconfirmed info that a bullet was recovered from his body............all very confusing. JMO

Even if wearing a vest a bullet that entered though the unprotected axillary region (armpit) could exit through the posterior/lateral aspect of neck . I recently heard of this happening in an unrelated story, military if my memory serves me well.

Wouldn't be hard to have that happen during a struggle.

For anyone who has Comcast, the segment is on On Demand under AC360 9/9.
The short coverage begins at 0:34 into the program.
Tracked this down on On Demand. Rosa Flores is Chicago CNN reporter and was who Anderson discussed the case with. Did notice her around during the initial press mayhem locally, but don't frequent CNN enough to know much about her. Nothing much new at that point in time. From her Twitter account, she was digging around in the area, including "On a boat patrol embed with Lake County Sheriff's marine unit". Probably appropriate at the time, but water investigation not relevant now.

Fox news report

Members of the Major Crimes Task Force, including Filenko and a second investigator, spent about an hour and a half inside the home of Gliniewicz, interviewing family members Thursday afternoon as they continue to try and piece together the case.

"We paid a courtesy call to the victim's wife an updated her on the investigation," Filenko said.

A woman who came out of the home afterwards said the family had no comment.

"interviewing family members" and "courtesy call...an updated her on the investigation" are two different activities.

Did the Chicago Tribune directly quote Rudd saying that the gunshot was to the torso, or is that something that was surmised and published? JMO.....??Why would Rudd say different things to different media outlets?

You noticed that as well.

I gotta say that at this point in the investigation, (if that is what is happening) it appears from the outside that the police are trying to control what is released. I guess I am saying that I don't trust them at this point, they seem to be trying to hide something. jmo idk

Are PD in a community all issued the same make and model guns? I have no idea, but they ARE issued to them, are they not? JMO

  • #997
I think they have been hiding something from the very beginning.

The topic is coming up next on CNN

TY again. This is as expert on CNN just stated. He brought a vest with him, too. JMO
