Duchess: "every trail"???We only know of one trail ,the following of which was aborted due to heat exhaustion. If the scent continued, why was it not followed ? I suspect that the scent began there and ended at the death scene. JMO

I was referring to every trail as in lead trail...not scent trail. Sorry I should have been clearer.

It's always amazing how people can read/see the same things and interpret them differently.

Well, that's true....everyone has a perspective. I'm taking Rudd at his word, for relying on forensic science to discover the truth about the manner of one's death, so I will accept his determination, whatever it is. JMO

Someone was in command on that scene. I don't know who and I don't think they were doing a good job but there was someone. I am sure there was some problems between fed and local as well.

However, even local PDs are part of huge training exercises to help mitigate these problems. Not everyone will be part of those exercises but generally you will have coordinators from each department who you know you report to and they will have been trained to report to others etc....

This was stressed after 9/11 and is part of the federal money they receive for all their toys.

But I do think this was still a complete duck up. They were, from looking at media, running around without much direction or at least none that made much sense. I believe for many this was treated as an exercise and an excuse to take out the sniper rifles and the tactical vehicles and ride around hanging out of helicopters.

There needs to be a serious investigation into this manhunt and people need to stop just giving govt a blank check to do whatever.
Even if this was a homicide there was no excuse for what we saw and what has transpired afterwards. None.

BBM. Would you still feel this way if a suspect(s) were brought into custody at the end of this day? Is the money well spent if a cop killer is removed from our streets?

I think he already answered that (see underlined.)

To be honest, I agree with him.

If Rudd is still waiting then its probably a suicide which will be classified as undetermined. If a cop is shot twice on duty and it's still hard to tell the difference then most of the current important factors are probably not supporting a homicide. Jmo

Wish we could ask that employee/owner from Precision Chrome who was interviewed early on if he saw Lt G's squad there earlier. I would think if he was there for up to 20 minutes "staging and preparing" someone at that place may have seen his car.

I think he was in the building earlier. IIRC he mentionedbeing outside for a smoke break. GPS is the best way to determine hiw long he was near the location he was killed.

That is part of the headless chicken chaos though. Those gps readings take minutes to obtain and I really would like to know when this was obtained because if it required some journalist three weeks later to push them to look that is a huge red flag that this task force is really bad at what they do. Really.

I'm not sure what system is used by Fox Lake PD but the technology to track vehicles in real time has been around for quite some time. Many police & fire departments in the area have these systems. They allow the dispatchers to see the emergency vehicles, superimposed on a map with the vehicle/unit number. The vehicle icon & number will move around on the map in sync with the real time movement of the vehicles. Where I work we also can view this information on the computers that are in every fire engine and ambulance. The dispatchers can use this information to assign calls to the nearest vehicle and it can also reduce confusion and the need for some radio traffic during hectic incidents.

I am am shocked that some form of this technology was in place but nothing was mentioned until recently.

I cannot imagine how Joe's family is feeling.
The speculation... the idea that this could be a suicide...
The idea that he could have faked it being a murder...

Accepting that your father or husband did this would be very difficult.
The idea that they would commit suicide would be hard.
The idea that they would make it look like a murder on duty would be even worse.
The idea that they would disgrace their whole legacy by doing it... would be unbelievable.

I know right now they don't believe he would ever commit suicide.
For their sake, I hope they stay firmly with that opinion.
The alternative would just be nearly impossible to accept.
Regardless I keep thinking about them... and how they are handling all of this.

rsbm --

I don't think that there is a 'they' who attempted to make it look like a murder. If it turns out to be a suicide, which I submit looks most likely (but I'm open), it was Joe himself who made it look like a murder. The primary responsibility would be his, for calling in the story of the salt and pepper trio.

I hope that a counselor has tried to ease the possibility that he took his own life on family members. I do feel terribly sorry for them, because unless it is investigated, they may never know why and beat themselves up about it. Mel was his wife and best friend, reportedly, so maybe she knows what was troubling him, but more often than we think, family never sees it coming. JMO

It's possible that heads are gonna roll if the MOD is determined to be suicide. IMO that and the determination of benefits is what's holding a conclusion up.

If deemed undetermined. I wonder if an insurance company can pay for a 2nd opinion from an outside agency if they wanted to?

I'm sitting right here with you. If it was- and they spent all of this money- yeah heads will definitely roll.

Anyway, the task force and law enforcement involved in this are either HORRIBLE at what they do. Like embarrassingly awful. Or just scrambling because they wasted a metric ton of money on nothing.

So in both cases- just embarrassing.

Sent from my not so humble opinion.

LOL Insurance companies are notorious for finding a reason to not pay up. Guess it depends on the fine print in the policy. JMO..............and when it was purchased.

They would definitely seem guilty if they did argue his decision. Especially when they are no longer searching for suspects.

In order for this to be a homicide we'd need to have 3 suspects capable of outsmarting Fox Lake PD, Lake County PD, Illinois State Police, US Marshals, FBI, Homeland Security, numerous search dogs AND forensic scientists who can not rule out suicide.

I wonder if we have any verified statisticians here at WS. I'd love to know the odds.
