Okay, if one was to SPECULATE. If DHS and FBI are duking it out.... It could be possible his murder resulted from some form of crime that is federal or falls under federal jurisdiction. It is all I can think of because Murder is not a federal crime, except for a few type of situations.

A few possibilities here!! Total SPECULATION. But sure gives some more to think about. I don't know. Much to think about.

It is interesting that murder for hire is one...
I think there were some comments on this or previous threads suggesting that same possibility, that the death of CG was a hit specifically directed at him.

Since it took 6 to 8 minutes to find him, I was under the impression his location was obstructed from view while on Honing. If his body was out in the open it shouldn't have taken so long to find him.

Unless those doing the finding were delayed by things like opening the gate, being cautious due to potential bad guys and non-response by Lt. G.......

You seem to have some inside knowledge about this..., or you wouldn't be able to state positively that what we have been fed by the media is untrue.

Can you just say this....will the truth ever come out, or will it forever be a cover-up? This must be pretty serious business if Homeland Security is involved. Is that the reason for the huge manhunt?

At first, the FBI came on board because Fox Lake Illinois and Wisconsin are close together and they thought the crime might be drug related.
Maybe something else surfaced and caught the attention of the FBI?

I don't recall any mention of drugs the day of the manhunt. I do recall mention of how close this occured to the IL/WI border. I made the automatic assumption that's why the feds are involved. I'm still not clear on the reason DHS is involved.

If they arrived and he was in their field of vision, seeing him down would have been first priority. If he was lying in any open area he would have been found before he could have been reached..... They would never leave him laying there to open a gate or start searching for the perps. keep in mind finding and reaching him are entirely different and he wasn't found for a long time for such a relatively small area.....

Go check out my notes from scanner. It explains some of this. Or at least how I am reading what your question might be. The city people were called to open to the gate.

I think when his family and friends get the final word on rather it was suicide or homicide it is going to be awful for them. Either option is devastating in its own way, and while I don't want it to be suicide when I think of everything ending within FIVE MINUTES, and timed so close to starting whatever his next adventure was going to be my heart just breaks.

Just a thought after rereading the scanner transcript. Those times jump out at me every time.

I've been trying to use Steelman's Map to plot the Lt's most likely route - based on the comments and timeline from his radio traffic.

Please see the attached image to see what I have so far.

I'm bumping my own posts here because there were many questions about the area marked for where the Lt's body was found. After a lot of reading and comparing the news reports with the transcripts of the scanner traffic, I have concluded that this map is correct and the news reports saying "50 yards" are wrong.

I invite readers to visit the scanner thread and read the distance as reported from the officers on scene, themselves.

Interesting that in the Patch interview, the Chrome guy said both "a football field" (~100 yards) and "50 yards" down the road. Could be where some confusion came in.

I have doing a lot of thinking about the map I posted earlier and the timeline we have from the GPS information and the LT's radio traffic.

We know from the GPS in his vehicle that the LT was on site (parked at the gate on Honing Road for 20 Minutes before he first radioed in to report the three suspects.

If you look at the map and imagine him sitting in his car, you can also imagine his field of view from that perspective. (I'll try to illustrate it - see attached)

It is obvious, looking that the map and the outline of the Lt's likely field of vision, that the three suspects that he described would have either had to walk into his field of view AFTER he had been parked there for some time. Or, they were there for as much as 20 Minutes and they would have been completely able to see him and his car - before he finally radioed in that he was going to check them out.

Bottom Line: Knowing that the Lt's car was at that gate for 20 minutes before he first radioed in, the map and the outline of his most likely field of vision does not support the Lt's report that the three suspects were there.

If they were there and if they were up to no good, they could easily see him and his car from that area. Then to consider the Lt's claim that "THEY headed towards the swamp?" It's highly unlikely, since the swamp area is so close to the road there.

There is no logical reason for why they would wait 20 minutes for the LT to exit his car, before they would then flee from him.

That's a really sharp curve in the road just past where Lt.JG's body was found.If they were approaching from the plant's open area,they wouldn't see each other until they were fairly close to each other.Both them and Lt.Joe would then suddenly and almost simultaneously be in each other's line of sight.

A 70 degree morning sitting in his patrol car since around 7:30 with the motor off sipping a long tall coffee when he and the trio become aware of each other's presence.Lt.Joe radios description,the trio stay calm,hoping the situation doesn't escalate.Lt.Joe exits his patrol car,sees they're going to flee,uses radio to initiate backup to start rolling.....

I bumped this Chuz because you gave us a cropped picture with lines to illustrate field of vision/line of sight.I responded by explaining how the sharp curve right (not visible on your cropped image) before the cement plant's open area affects when Lt. Joe and the trio may have been aware of each other's presence and a brief narrative to show how it fits.

You asked me if I had footprints. WTH We've already discussed foot prints ad nauseum .What about your Field Of Vision/Line Of Sight theories? What about my alternative? Look at Steelman's map showing the entire area, look where the Patrol car was parked and the perfectly reasonable location of transversing the sharp curve that the trio may have been approaching from.
