FYI a tooney is 2 dollars in Canada since we got rid of the 2 dollar bill. The one dollar is a Loonie and we are getting rid of pennies. FYI.

Congratulations on your new Head of State.

I pulled this from an early article and bolded a few things that stand out to me.

“The Fox Lake police officer who was shot to death Tuesday morning in the line of duty was remembered as a family man and a youth mentor with an unmatched dedication to serving his community.

Lieutenant Charles Joseph Gliniewicz, was a 30-year veteran of the police force and on the cusp of retirement, according to Joe Ahern, CEO of the 100 Club of Chicago, a charity organization for the families of officers killed on duty. The 52-year-old officer planned to retire last month, but the police chief asked him to stay one extra month to help out, Ahern said.

Flags were at half-staff Wednesday morning outside official buildings in Fox Lake and flowers, balloons and mementos were being placed in front of the Fox Lake Police Department. Supporters flocked to the station to honor Gliniewicz.

"I came over here with my favorite teddy bear because he was such a great guy," 11-year-old Lilly J. said at the site Wednesday morning.

Gliniewicz, who went by "Joe" and was affectionately called "G.I. Joe" by residents, dedicated his life to serving his community.

But many say the title he took the most pride in was being a family man, married for 30 years to his wife Melodie and a father to four sons. One of his sons served in the Army and was stationed in North Carolina.”

Over the last month, investigators reviewed thousands of deleted text messages containing incriminating comments from Gliniewicz along with other documents, Filenko said, leading them to their conclusion. These messages were sent to multiple people, Filenko said.

IMO the theft was the big FU. His taking his life was the cowardly way of escaping the consequences of his actions.

One has to wonder why just under a 6 figure salary wasn't enough.....but then again for some no amount is ever enough.

It doesn't excuse his dishonesty but for a single income family with kids just under 100,000 isn't much around here. I think Melodie might have maybe worked on a limited basis if at all. 7 years ago when he started being dishonest is right around the time real estate values took a dive.A lot of fairly affluent people in this area walked out on their mortgages. One can sleuth the fat happy crooks on Wallstreet for more info on that.

I found it very interesting that no one in the media asked where the current police chief was. We know that the previous one has retired just when all this started..correct?

Grrrr, dang computer!

CUBBY:

Federal LE (federal gov't) uses LEAVE...took me forever to get used to asking for LEAVE instead of vacation days.
But, obviously he's talking to someone not on a federal level, so gosh, I don't know. Military could certainly make sense, as his department could have officers that are prior military and/or officers that do military reserve duty. Not surprising in this line of work.

FWIW there is also medical leave, maternity leave, family leave, bereavement leave, etc...

I'm curious. Is there anyone who still thinks that the LT's family is still entitled to his benefits?

If they are not involved, I believe that they would be entitled to what might be left after taking out for what he stole. I am really not sure about the cost of the investigation though. It really hinges to me on whether or not they were involved.

"I’m sticking my neck out there with loaning you over $2377.00 to fix your truck specifically and only to help accommodate your summer leave, trip to OK. I would not have otherwise."

I think maybe the wife could have helped out by working. They didn't have an expensive home. It's no excuse for what he did, and you did say that. I am still so angry about this that maybe I'm not being tactful. I still wonder if the family is a part of this. What did they need all the extra money for, besides all of Joe's "toys" and "peccadilloes". Maybe the food budget. Looks like someone liked to stay home and eat instead of working. Fat, happy, well...you know.

We do not need to obsess over LEAVE. That may have been what CG called a vacation. Since individual#2 seems to be the person who was to have a leave, and went to OK, and needed his/her truck repaired and a loan for all of it, I took the liberty of suggesting that it may be someone in the military...and I do not know who, other than someone very close to Joe, would ask for a loan from him. Respectfully, we still don't know who the person is he is speaking to. I have some hunches, but really not enough information at this point to confirm, but certainly see where you are going with this.

Another thing that makes me angry is that, according to Filenko at the press conference, the money stolen was used for very selfish things, imo - travel, gym memberships, adult websites, etc. It's not as though they were starving and he needed the money to buy food to feed his family.

Figure this is safe to post now. But beware. NSFW images ahead. Also anyone may find the images really upsetting so I am warning big time. But it is on twitter, so...
